  1. I need a new soft top for my C2 1999 Cab with rear window. Who's got the best after-market soft tops? Should I convert to a glass rear window or stay with the plastic. The 1999 is a glued rear window that I really don't like- Mine's pulled away. Also, I live in Sacramento. Does anyone know a great "installer" for the new soft top. Thanks!

I also purchased a GAHH top with glass directly from them. Had it installed by a local guy they recommended. definitely worth the extra$$ LOVE IT and you can get it tinted...aftermarket

  2. Hi all again,

After dealing with my top issues and having read in the forums, I have decided on replacing the top on my 996 99 with a new one with glass. Now, I can't find a place in Orange County/Los Angeles area that can give me a straight answer on how much they will charge for putting it on. I think I found a place but they send it to an upholster to be installed, and then they do the calibration. I am not convinced that an upholster should even try to put a whole new top on a cab since as I see it is not an upholstery task since the top is new and does not need repair. If anybody could give me some insight on this question, and/or make a recommendation on where to go around OC/LA please do so. I just don't want to mess up.

    Thanks guys

    Hello:

I just got my 99 996 top replaced with a glass window from GAHH. It came out BEAUTIFUL. I bought the top from them and they dropped shipped to an upholsterer they recommended. THe old top gets junked and thenew top is put on. I was charged a flat fee. I live in Diamond Bar and had the work done in Ontario. I work in NB and didn't find anyone out there wiling to work with me.

On the Boxster, it is not strictly necessary to remove the top to stitch in a new window. I doubt it is different for a 996.

    Hi

I have a 99 996 Cab and i got sick of the plastic window getting unglued, etc....

I just bit the bullet and had the whole top replaced and got the back window upgraded to GLASS!! Works great, looks awesome and is cooler since i could get it tinted.

  4. I'm new to the forum, but the information on the site is fantastic. I plan to do as much of the maintenance and repairs as possible and will be processing a Durametric Code reader.

I recently purchased a 99 Carrera Coupe, Tiptonic, 52,000 miles from a private party. I don't have a book that has the maintenance recommendations but I have the receipts from the prior owner for the last 25,000 miles of service. What is the recommended maintenance at 60K miles? The dealer says, oh that is a "major" service costing around $2,400. They also recommend pulleys and rollers need to be changed. Am I missing something? I have never heard of this on any vehicle I've owned and maintained. I would appreciate a listing of the required/recommended maintenance at 60K or point me to it on the website.

The only problem I've had is what appears to be a problem for others is the ABC/TC lights turning on and off. Hopefully the code reader will help find the problem.

I am also new to theforum, and agree that the information shared here is GREAT!!! Anyway, i purchased a '99 Cab with 55k miles and drove it for a bit then had the 60k service done here in Orange County. The local PCA recommended shop (Nardi, Game Face Motorsports) did plugs, oil change (with all filters- fuel, oil, air) belt, inspection, brake fluid flush, and some corresponding adjustments. They also found a oil drip around the sparkplug wire seal and replaced the set. Car ran even better than when i brought it in...which i found to be amazing since i thought it ran good before the service. Anyway it ran me $900. I am no authority by any stretch, but he cam recommended and i was happy with the service he did.
