  1. ok, so I did the update for the maps.  but since then, the display when on map has been somewhat of a bad picture.  hard to explain, but it seems to be a little jumpy when the car is moving and it makes the map seem distorted a bit.  also, night mode is hard to see as well as it was before the update.  also, lets say I turn a corner, now it seems the map is slow to male the change with the car - lagging - delay.  wondering if anyone sees anything wrong here in this pics, ie, software number, versions , etc.  TAGRET is missing a value in one pic.  Also, all I did was put in the current map cd for update as the software was already done previously.  I did the 2015 dvd.  any input appreciated.

  2. I recently purchased what was/is suppose to be the most current Nav CD for my 2006.  The part I was told I need is 997.044.904.51 and what was ordered.  Dealer part, came all sealed up with 4 discs - PCM 2.1 Multimedia Update CD Cayene,  PCM 2.1 Multimedia Update CD 1 911 Boxter Cayman,  PCM 2.1 Multimedia Update CD 2 911 Boxter Cayman and PCM 2.1 Multimedia Update CD Navigation.  All CD's have the date stamp 08.2009 while the label on the box has 27 08 2015.  Attached is the "new" nav cd and a picture of the older 2013 I had in the car.

Why would the box read 2015 and the new cd's 2009?

How do I tell what I actual have, a newer 2015 set or 2009?

  3. 1).  So for awhile now, but very sporadically, I get this message " Check front left side light".  Asked the dealer some time ago and they say they've seen it before but didnt know exactly what causes it.  They say they have checked connections, changed bulbs, etc., but will have the same car continue to have the message from time to time.  Any  suggestions as to what the issue is or where I can start to look?

2). Awhile back I started to notice around dusk time, when my headlights are on, the dash lights (illuminated background for tach & speed ) and A/C lighting will be bright when car passes under tree canopy's, shadows then when back in a brighter area will go dim.  Dimming sensor is picking up the change in ambient lighting during the dusky period causing the dimming to go back and forth.  I dont remember it always being this sensitive and am wondering if I have inadvertently adjusted some setting or is this normal behavior or is a sensor going bonkers?  Thoughts?  Hows yours work?   Tks much.

  4. so I went to the local dealer to inquire on the above - updating to the latest version available for by 2006.  They gave me a part no. of 997.044.904.51.  But they could not tell me if it would work with my system or if there had been any significant updates to the cd since the one I now have - see picture.  Ive read that one must have the latest "B" version software for the 2.1 version.  But if I am reading correctly, I now have SW Version 3.....

Questions - can anyone please tell me the latest cd map version part no. for my model?

am I okay to use the latest cd without anymore updates - am I "current" for the latest map update cd?    Tks much.  I checked with the service writer and am still waiting.  They are stumped for some reason .

I picked up my 2008 Cayenne S (Nav & Bose, PCM 2.1) from the dealer a couple of weeks ago after having the battery changed.

Right after I picked it up, sometimes when it starts, the clocks on the dash & “below PCM indicate either the correct or wrong time. When they indicate the wrong time, after driving for 30 seconds to 4 minutes the dash & “below PCM” clocks change to the correct time?

Took the Cayenne back to the dealer to have them look at it. After several days and lots of diagnostic tests, the dealer reports that no system is reporting a problem. All they did was set the correct time zone since it wasn't correctly set when they changed the battery. So they reached out to Porsche NA for help. Porsche NA reported that they have recently started to see the issue with older systems. Something to do with an update of the world wide GPS system? Nothing they can do about it. Now, it has been two weeks since battery replacement/corrected time zone and the clock seems to be working.

After reading a thread on another forum, I looked for the date and it no longer appears in the display! I found the date digging down into the sub menus and it is also wrong…it’s 2/23/00?

Seems like the battery replacement also effected the clock but that was not fixed with the correction of the time zone.

Is your clock at the correct date and properly indicating on the PCM2.1 display?

    Thanks for your help.

    yes.  all good now.

Very interesting. My PCM is at Rev B but using older maps disk. I will change the date format and see if anything changes.

Keep us posted if the date sticks

So the date is still in the main display.  Very strange as mentioned - the tech said every time he changed it to current date

, it would revert back to incorrect date and I had already changed the format once or twice with no effect.

Out of curiuosity, do you know if the battery was changed before you bought the car or have you changed it recently?

  7. so the local Porsche of new orleans dealer was nice to offer to look at the car for the date not showing issue.  They hooked it up to the computer but could not get the date to stick.  The tech was using the latest version.  He checked a couple of things and all looked good but when he tried to set the date it would not stick.  I was there and saw that the date was still blank.  It would take for a sec, then blank out.  He offered to unpack an older version diagnostic and said he would try on sat if I went back.  I said okay.  For the heck of it, on the way back home I decided to change (again) the date format just to see.  The date was still not showing on the main display.  get home, turn car off.  Come in to look online for the latest map disc info - mine's 2013 and the tech mentioned that it may be the latest, so I check online and go back out to the car to get my software version as parts says "Special Note: The new navigation DVD(s) can only be used with software version "B" in PCM 2.1. If "A" software is present, your local dealer may need to update the PCM software (effects 2005-06 cars only)."

Soooo, when I turn on the car, this is what I see:

The date is back.  Guess ill see if it sticks and report back.

  8.  I think I figured it out - I actually always changed the clock in the dash when daylight savings came around.  after the time was messed up after battery change I also used the dash to reset and it was changing on me.  Messing around, I was reminded of the reset option in the PCM in which I then had the right time set but the GMT was wrong....  They noticed that the daylight savings was checked - after changing that and setting gmt to -6, alls well with the time.

  9. I have a thread : in which I had a time issue also after batter replacement. BUT now my date is wrong - reads something like 03-12-2000.  So now I have a wrong date and dont see that it can be reset??

  10. So I have not looked in the manual yet.  But tonight I went to the car and when I started it it had the correct time. The after about 15 seconds it changed to,the wrong time. I did find in the pcm setting where I could change the time. By the time I found it though, the clock had reset itself to the correct time. Funny thing is that I’m on central time and the time setting in the pcm was for New York, gmt -5 even though it showed the correct time for my location, Central STD time. New Orleans is gmt -6..  N.O. Is not a choice so I had to pick Mexico. The incorrect time showed. I had to pick Phoenix, gmt -7 to get central time.

I saw no settings for auto update from nav - but like I said I haven’t check the manual yet.

  11. Background.....

Have been using until recently Porsche branded battery tender/charger - technically not sure which - plugged into car driver ashtray lighter to keep battery charged.  A number of months ago, the unit at the wall plug seemed to be running warm to the touch so I threw it away as it was pretty old.  Just left the car sitting using once or twice every month or so....  Then I get a Deltran trickle charger and battery seems to be fine and starts right up...  I then get the smart idea to hook up the ring terminal to the battery post so I can just use the quick disconnect.  Well, after that the green light(fully charged) on the charger would never light up so I figured the ring terminal was bad.  Deltran sent me a new one.  In the mean time, I tested the battery and found it low voltage and much older than I had remembered - 6 years.  So I get a new battery and just decide to ditch the Deltran and the ring terminal and maybe ill just drive it more often!!!  I hope.

So, what I am now noticing is that after the battery switch and all the above, I got into the car and noticed the dash clock to have the wrong time so I reset it.  Week or so later, I get in the car and the time is wrong again.  Thinking I did not set it properly the 1st time, forgot to push the button in - whatever - I reset it again.  Another week or so and today I get in the car and it had the wrong time, 12:00 or something...  I decide to just leave it alone and drive on.  Well, after a few minutes I look at the clock and it had reset itself to the correct time.  What gives?  Any ideas???  Ive never noticed that behavior before.  Tks

The simple answer is yes.  The foam has deteriorated on the blend door inside the HVAC box.  There is no easy fix.  To get to the blend doors inside the box, you have to remove the entire dash.  I have just learned to live with it for 10 years.  Once the foam stops spewing out the vents, everything works well for heat/air.  So I just let it be.

so once the foam stops coming out, the vents work the way they should?  i.e., the air will not come from the defrost when its not selected......

  13. so just out of curiosity, I have a 997_1.  I was at the dealer the other day looking at the new models and mentioned this foam issue.  they said they have seen this issue, but that the problem is not with the blending doors, rather from foam that might have been "pinched" together when joining together pieces of the duct work.  or, if I understood them correctly, where a connector piece is used and the backside of the foam degrades off.  they say it is these little pieces of pinched foam inside the dust work that is finally degrading and blowing through.  any thoughts?

ive had foam blow out, not massive amounts, just curious as I've never had or seen the ducts/inside personally.   tks

    air still blowing cold.

sorry to post it here, but didn't see applicable post in the other side.
