  1. I'm not sure why they are still giving that message. When I called them they told me something about under going a state of California audit before offering in CA again. You will probably have to call them to get details on when it will complete.
  2. There are only two that I know of. The 1999 had it available as an option, in 2004 only the 40th anniversary edition had it, it was not an option on anyother c2. AA
  3. Generally for greasing I prefer Redline High Temp for CV joints synthetic grease. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant...subCategoryID=8
  4. In my area the police no longer use X band so I just turned it off. the V-1 is programmable. You get a LOT fewer falses this way.
  5. Was there any kind of smell that you noticed when this started? That seems to be an odd symptom for a clutch going out. Usually they give more notice.
  6. I was just going by the size on my '02, I guess it changed. My bad. AA
  7. Cefarl, I ran S-02's and RE-050s on my S2000. Both are great tires, they seemed to have the same amount of grip. However the RE-050 was much better in the wet and lasted a lot longer for the same treadwear rating of 140. Overall I've been really impressed with Bridgestone tires. AA
  8. Do not stick with what the TIRE says, stick with what the MANUAL says. I don't think you can go wrong with the N version of the tires that you car originally came with. Those are likely to be Michelin Pilot Sports or Continentals. Check with your dealer. The rear tire your car has on it might be a bit small, I think the standard 18" tire is 285 in the rear. Andy
  9. When I had my car PPI'd prior to my purchasing the only thing they said was wrong with the car was that the flywheel was rattling. He said that it was not unusual and was part of wear and would just need to be replaced with the clutch. Is this normal to have to replace the flywheel with the clutch? The car only has 26,000 miles on it now. The previous owner took meticulous care of the care and so have I. Would the flywheel be covered under warranty? thanks, Andy
  10. Sunset quoted me: "4683.00 and a month from Germany for that. Plus shipping out to you." The first quote was from Carlsen, supposedly a respected Porsche dealer in the bayarea.
  11. Valentine One, there is no substitute. I've owned two and would not be without one. They are also upgradeable when new technologies come out.
  12. second quote is "4683.00 and a month from Germany for that. Plus shipping out to you." Probably not the route to go.
  13. Thanks Loren. Perhaps you can cross check this, but I just got a part number of 996-332-083-00 for the LSD in the '04. They quoted me $5505! and 9 hours to R&R.
  14. I got the part number second time around. Perhaps they overlooked it in my first email. 996-332-083-00 Looking for a better price...
  15. What I know so far... Dealer I talked to wouldn't give me a part number. They quoted me $5505 for the locking diff and 9 hours of labor ~$1,395. Sounds awefully high to me. They told me that until recently Porsche would supply no part numbers and that it was just recently that they trained the mechanics to work on the 6-speed. Pretty expensive for a gear driven LSD. I'll keep digging.
  16. I'm considering adding a LSD to my 02. Does anyone know the part number? Thanks, Andy
  17. my996, Will do. So far it looks like Quaife is the only one making a mechanical (gears) diff. I'm trying to track down the part numbers for the 40th anniversary Carrera LSD and see if that is a viable option. Andy
  18. I haven't tried it out yet. I searched the internet for 2 weeks for information on warranty direct and found no (0) negative reviews of their services. Could you point me to someone that had a problem? I still have a week to cancel Thanks. AA
  19. I've had my 996 now for about a month and the only thing I am truely dissapointed about is that it does not have a limited slip differential (LSD). PSM does not come close to making up for it. When trying to put powerdown in a corner and the brakes come on it is not a good feeling. I would rather modulate my traction myself with the gas pedal than have the computer step in and do it with the brakes. What are my options? I prefer to low maintainance with a gear type LSD instead of a clutch type. I've used Torsen's (in my S2000's) and been quite happy. I see that Quaife makes one for the 996. What sort of LSD was offered in the 1999 Carrera? Should I look for one to pull out of a wrecked car? Order the part from Porsche? Part from a Turbo, GT3? How will the LSD interact with the PSM? How hard is the install? Any advise would be great. Thanks, Andy Oh, and Happy New Year!
  20. Congrats on the new purchase. I just bought a '02 C2 coupe and wanted a warranty too. You can purchase one directly through www.warrantydirect.com. I did a lot of research and they seem to be the best one out there, not to mention the ONLY one available in California (only one cleared by the state). Go to the website for quotations. They have a few different options. I bought a 4 year 75,000 mile bumper to bumper EXclusionary for my car. Good Luck.
  21. I have always used with good luck Redline Oil products in my cars. Has anyone used the Redline MT-90 oil in there transmission? Andy http://www.redlineoil.com/products_gearlub...mp;categoryID=7
  22. Craig, Thank you for the very detailed description of how the engines are designed. It answers all my questions. Andy
  23. So I keep hearing that the 996 M96.03 engine (Standard Carrera) doesnt have a "real" dry sump system. That only the Turbo, GT2, GT3 have this. How is the M96.03 different? Is this a real dissadvantage? How does it compare to the 993? What was the purpose behind this? Cheaper manufacturing? Thanks, Andy
  24. If it's not installed by the 27th I could use some help putting in my B&M SSK. Andy
