So far so good. I drained out some oil from the oil filter. Started it up this morning and NO smoke. I'll check again tomorrow and let you know.

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with the wifey's 2003 Boxster 44K miles. It started with white smoke during startup..usually in the morning

and it would last for over a minute then go away. So, took the advice from reading all the post about AOS and went ahead and changed the AOS and Jtube.

Worked great....for 2 months. This morning I started it up and....white smoke.

Few things I did:

I drained out the oil form the oil filter, because last oil changed I put in 9 quarts...8.7 is what it requires.

Took out the throttle body and cleaned it.

Took out the J tube and noticed little oil....cleaned that as well.

btw... A few days ago when I started it up in the morning... I did hear the air pump whining...like a high pitch whine. Not the normal sound of the air pump.

Questions:

1. Can the AOS go bad in such a short period?

2. Can overfilling the oil to 9 quarts cause the smoke or cause the AOS to go bad?

3. Whining air pump...can this be a part of the smoke?

I always use OEM filter.. I don't think Fram makes the porsche oil filters..

How are your tire pressure?

As for the rough idle....try cleaning your throttle body.

What happens when you turn off your A/C? I believe there is a fan that turns on when the A/C is on so..... it could just be the fan.

The sunroof is stuck slightly open. Press the switch...I can hear the motor turning but the roof will not move. Are there internal gears in the motor itself that could go bad? Is this a common problem? DIY possible? How?

UPDATE:

The problem was the ABS system. Just a little under $1000.00 to replace. She is back on the road.

So the symptom was soft brake pedal... initially felt like air in system... bled system.. worked for the first 10 mins. them back to being soft....

Change ABS and all is well.

Talked to Luke from Sunset Porsche... No part number for that rubber seal. You have to purchase the whole headlight assembly and it will come with the seal :o ...

Anyone have any idea on a fix on this?

I have the Optima Yellow on my 996.. not sure of the CA. My Boxster has 850 CA non OEM battery. No issues with both.

I say top it off and monitor for any leaks. Or if you have access to a pressure tool...pressurize the system and check for leaks.

As for mixing....not sure. I'm sure someone here in chime in.

Question for the experts??? If you flush the coling system... can you use the regular coolant from the parts store (non OEM)?

Haven't tried the slamming of the pedal yet. Going to replaced the M/C and see what happens....much cheaper than the ABS...

Mother... so no change by replacing the master cylinder? How hard was it to change the master cylinder?

No leaks under carpet...no leaks on the floor... not loosing any fluid in the master cylinder.

Besides the master cylinder....any other parts I should look at. I am almost sure it's the master cylinder, but just want to make sure.

Just to verify... I do not need to bleed the ABS if I change the master cylinder?

Hi Everyone,

Working on my friends 2001 C4 with 40k miles on it. His brake pedal is soft and going staight to the floor with minimal stopping. The car is tracked 2-3 times a year. The brake pads and rotors are fine. Fluid is ATE blue. We re-bled the system and pedal is back to normal feel, but after 10 minutes of use the brake pedal is back down to the floor. NO fluid loss anywhere. any thoughts?

I have searched this forum and all I see is the master cylinder.

If it is the master cylinder.... Do I need to bleed the ABS?
