  1. Hi Guys: Just replaced the ignition switch. I'm a heavy set person and had to turn in to a pretzel but, any ways, it seems to be working, however, with the key out of the switch the alrm goes off, like the key is still in the switch, also, the remote won't work and when the door is manually closed the passenger door does not lock, the radio does not turns off when the key is taken out of the switch. Had a little problem inserting the switch and had to turn the key in order to insert it all the way. Think the position of the shaft, male in the colum, that inserts into the switch or the female part of the switch may not be in the correct place, would that be the case? The switch is made in Germany but did not have instructions as to the position of the switch meaning if it was in the "0" "1" or "2" position. Reading instructions posted here it said to place the key in the "1" position but as stated above the switch would not insert completly and that is why I had to turn the key in order to get it all the way in. Any suggestions, what is the position in which the new switch comes from the factory, "0" "1" or "2"? Thanks Update: Noticed thet if the switch is pushed or wiggled from behind the "key in switch" alarm either stops or starts to sound. Gues is a faulty new switch.
  2. Thanks demosan. Don'y know how old is the battery. The car has been kind of slugish to start, it is not like: broooom, but woob, woob broom (hope the description make sense). In several ocacions due to clutch release and gas pedal coordination the car stopped (user error), waited the reglamentary 10 second and it started. Just tried to start the car after being in the garage for about 2 to 3 hrs (and reading your comments); the needle was just below the 12, tried to start and no go, tried the second time and started with my description of slugish, the needle went up close to 14. The car is not a daily driver it is bassicaly a half weekend driver. You mentioned the switch but when the car was push started the switch was engaged, could still be a switch issue? The alternator needle when 1st started after several days in the garage goes to the 14 the goes down in between 14 and 12. In regards to the starter motor, when tried to start the car during today's tamtrumthere was never a tac tac tac noise like when the starter has problems, be advise this is my 1st Porsche, maybe other cars do the tac tac when there is a starter issue but Porsche may behave differently.
  3. Hi Guys: My MY99 Carrera C2 left me stranded today. I tried to start it ( not the 1st time today) and it did not, waited the reglamentary 10 seconds and nothing, nada. All the lights were lit, the windows worked but no start. Tried to jump start it but nothing. The jumper cables were quite thin and the donor car was a small 4 cilinder Cion. Could the quality of the jumper cables and the donor's battery be a reason why my car would not start? Was able to start the car by push starting it. Placed the car in 2nd gear, had some friends push it, after some speed disengaged the clutch and the car started right away. Could it be a bad battery? Please help
  4. Hi guys: Would this work on my MY99, C2, 996? Already know the car does have the computer, it does not have headlight washers though. Is there something missing?
  5. Thanks for the response. Does it means is engaged (on) or just shows the readings on the screen?
  6. Hi Guys: Every time my MY99 996 C2 is started the climate control shows a emperature and fan reading, in other words is on, even if I have turned it off. Is this normal, how can I make the climate control keep how it was when the ca was truned off?
  7. Is it worth to install a voltage stabilizer, any real advantage?
  8. This "thing" is in the lower left of the front bumper. Not the best pic but think it is identifiable.
  9. It is a more metalic sound and does not last as long as Scouser's wav file. As Izzy said it is kind of a metal rattle. I would say like a loose pulley and seems to be generated at the lowes part of the engine. Will try to have someone start the car while I watch/listen.
  10. Thanks Loren. If indeed is that, could it be tighten?
  11. Could be but why would it make the noise only when 1st started and only once?
  12. Hi Guys: Some strange noise happens when I start the car (MY99 Carrera C2) for the first time in the day. It is like a ratling/clinking noise, last several seconds then desappears and does not do it the rest of the day. As I said it is just when 1st start the car. Seems to come from the back bottom part of the car. Sounds like a pulley when is loose. Any ideas, has anybody experienced the same? Thanks
  13. Ok. Noticed that the photo on the tool pants post is an Odyssey pc680. Checking the web it shows it is a replacement for a motorcicle battery. !Are these batteries so good that a motorcicle battery can be used for a Porsche?
  14. Thnaks Loren. Could you expain me this: Also what is "16 mm triple square with a hole in the middle" for transmisson oil drain plug removal?
  15. Hi: How can I tell if my MY99 Carrera C2 has an on board computer even if it does not have the controlls or does it has a computer and all I need is to activate it and install the controlls? Also what is "16 mm triple square with a hole in the middle" for transmisson oil drain plug removal? Thanks
  16. Hi Loren: What is the rivets part number and how many would be needed?
  17. So... based on Loren's response, "there is only one Mobile 1 ow-40" this palce does have it. Will be getting it tomorrow. Thanks you all...
  18. Went to get Mobil 1 Oil at Pepboys here in Miami. Did find "Mobil 1 0W-40" but nothing on thr lable shows "ncp" which I'm no too concern about 'cause for what I've read "ncp" are all synthetic oils. What really concerns me is the "GL", does not shows on the lable. Does the lable has to say "GL" or the fact that it shows "Mobil 1 0W-40" it is the right oil? Needless to say, did not buy the oil, waiting for the comments from the forum.
