  1. I replaced the instrument cluster (996, 1999, C2  6speeds),. Was able to adjust the millage to the old cluster millage, through a company in California, don't remember the name. It is my understanding that the VIN number is stored in the cluster. Since the "new" cluster is from a different vehicle, I'm asuming, the cluster, has the doner's VIN number. Is there a way to change the VIN number from the "NEW" cluster to the car's original VIN mumber? There is a seller on eBay that claims it can do it but I'm a bit hesitant. I do have a clone PST2 and it is my understanding that for some programing, key fob for instance, IPAS, is needed. Think IPAS is related to tha VIN number.

  2. Was having problems with the tachometer and adjusting the clock on my 996 MY99 6 speed. Got a cluster on eBay, send it to Palo Alto Speedometer to adjust the millage to the actual millage. However, Palo Alto was not able to correct/adjust the vin number in the cluster. In the case I need the ipas password, should I get the password for the vin number in the "new" cluster or the one of the car's original vin number?

    Thanks

  3. Hi everybody:

Searching the forums in regards to the instrument cluster found this info in an old post:

"The second one (996.641.103.01.70c) was replaced by 996.641.103.02.70c and then 996.641.103.03.70c -- so it will work but it is likely from 1998."

Having problems with the tachometer, the needle dropped and although it tries to move is always pointing to the #6 position on a clock dial. The other problem is the the cluster clock can not be adjusted. None of the functions of the knob to set the time on the cluster clock work (setting time and changing from MPH to KPH).

Thinking of getting a cluster, my car is a MY99, C2, manual, and activated OBC so, would any of the clusters above mentioned would work, what reprogramming would be needed for the "new" cluster? I know the millage would need to be adjusted and either VDO Repair or Palo Alto Speedometer could.

  4. Update:

Fuses OK. By-passed clutch switch..... Running.

Thinking of by-passing the clutch switch for good.

Volts reaching battery 14+, volts at jump points (engine trunk) 14+.

Will drive the car and see if battery (Optima) will hold charge.

    THANKS FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE EVERYBODY.

  5. The battery been dead for, I think, more that 2 weeks. The key fobs are not working for a long time and I was able to start the car with the non working key fob..

Will check the fuses. Where are those fuses located, on the fuse box by the driver's side foot-well? The foot clutch safety switch was working on the last tie the car ws started. After the battery was drained drained and charged , the car did turn/start, but after doing a complete battery charge, it won't turn.
