Thanks Richard!! I installed a new steering rack and when I had the front suspension apart I guess I unplugged one of the connectors by mistake. Thanks for letting me know.
David
The workshop manual says:Front right
speed sensor,
open circuit/
short to ground/
short to B+
DTC 4200
General procedure as for test point 6/diagnostic trouble code 4205.
- Speed sensor signal: Check with the Porsche System Tester 2
via the Actual values menu (call up front right wheel speed).
- Internal resistance/continuity between PIN4 and PIN5 on the
control module connector.

Hello, I am trying to diagnose a fault code with my ABS (P4200) on a 1999 Porsche 911 C2. Is there an online listed of these fault codes that I could review? I found the one for engine codes but nothing for ABS modules... Thanks,
David

Loren, there was another sticker on the rack when it arrived... do you know what the below part number means? Thanks, David
996-347-005.05
-
So if the price is right this would still work... wish there was a way to verify what the changes were on the updated parts! <_<
Thanks Loren!
David
996.347.011.05 was replaced by 996.347.011.06 which was replaced by 996.347.011.07.So 996.347.011.07 is the latest.
You will also need:
997.347.373.00 sealing ring (2 required)
996.347.293.04 clamping ring (2 required)
996.347.191 04 bellows (2 required)

Can someone please verify that this part number would fit a 1999 Porsche 911 C2? I need a new PS rack and this one is available as a used "new" part. Thanks, David

Has anyone ever seen one of these in person? How was the quality? I was thinking of getting one to go on my GT3/GT2 rear engine lid. The car is a 1999 black C2 and I thought it might look good. Is the e-bay price decent or is there a better source for Speedart products?

Yeah, my instructions are for removing the light cluster only! I did not have to remove the upper console itself... ;) Good watching out on this iflyjets4u!
David
Don't just start prying away. First you must remove the two oval shaped pieces of plastic by the map lights. They do indeed pry out. You will find a screw inside each of those, which must be removed first, then the piece will unclip.Mine broke a while back. Got the new one from Sunset and all is well. They did send the wrong one first. The first one was much shorter and did not have the hole for the sunroof switch. Good luck

I also noticed that NR Auto sells a sport seat back conversion for comfort seats... has anyone tried that method and what were the results? Not sure if the NR Auto conversion might be cheaper than buying complete sport seats and splitting them in half...
David
Has anyone had experience adapting the backrest shell of a sport seat to the bottom of the power comfort seats to provide a fully powered version of sport seats. My car has heated comfort seats with lumbar and I would like to know if it's possible to convert them into full power sport seats with the comfort seat memory capabilities. The backrest frame part for both the comfort seat and the sport seat is the same (thanks Loren) so it would appear that it is possible to do this transformation by adding the sport seat backrest shell, padding and leather cover to the power seat backrest frame that contains all the electronics and motors, lumbar, etc.
Hi,
I just acquired a pair of sport seats and I too have the comfort seats with memory and lumbar, as well as heat. Could you please share your experience in regards to this modification with me? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your thoughts on this.
Ron.

Yep, just did this. It does pry out... the back edge towards the rear window has two tabs that lock onto the upper console. The front of the lights closest to the windshield has two metal clips which you can release by pulling straight down (you might need a small flat head screwdriver to pry it out). Once the metal clips are undone you can slide the light assembly towards the front of the car a little bit while its angled down to release the back tabs. There is one wiring connector to undo once the light is out.
P.S. These instructions are for the light module itself. The rest of the upper console I believe is screwed in and you should see the screws once the light module is removed...
David
I've searched the archives and TSBs but haven't found anything on this. Does the panel that has the overhead/map lights just pry off, or is there a special trick to it? My sunroof control switch has become loose (pushed into the panel), so I'm thinking I just need to take the panel off and snap it back into the panel. I hope...Thanks in advance.

Alex, guess we are partners in crime... my 99 C2 also has this code but with the description of "tank pressure sensor/below limit". Can you tell me where physically this sensor is so I can look at swapping it out. Also, do you think this would be related to the fact that I can't seem to fill up my gas tank more than 7/8 full at gas stations?
By the way, the front brakes worked out great! Although I needed to go to a 8mm spacer to fit the wheels back on! ;)
David
Just as an FYI guys...It's apparently the Fuel Tank according to Brian Haske @ Carlsen
"Christian said the sensor is off the tank, by the sending unit"
Easy enough to fix:)

Well guys, just got the news....
48 hours after getting my "new" Porsche 911 home it had to go back to the shop.... engine failed! Looks like tons of metal shavings in my oil with a loud knock to go with it. Multiple misfire codes and it would not hold idle. We think the intermediate shaft bearing failed...
Anyways, it was a 1999 911 C2 with 74k on it. Seems a shame this would happen to me as a new owner but I still love the car and will now look into getting a new motor for it. Will update you guys once I am back on the road.
David
P.S. Is it worth trying to contact PCNA to get some help on the replacement motor costs on a private party purchased used Porsche or is that just wishful thinking?
I had the car for over 1 year and never replaced the coolant. I dont know what the previous owner did. I did an oil change every 6 months even with only putting 4-5K on the car. If I get enough people, I'll forward the info to a firm and see what they say. Maybe a class action suit can be started. (see other topic) -
Okay, sorry to bring up this old thread but is the seal the same between the 3.4 motors and the 3.6? I have a 1999 as well and since the clutch is getting done I was going to update the seals while I am in there. Loren, what is your opinion on the GT3 seal fix mentioned above? Thanks,
David
I don't think you are going to know if it is the IMS or RMS (or both) without removing the transmission and flywheel.I agree. Knowing that it could be the ISS also, then it's going to a shop for a checkup. At 12k miles, it's too early for a new clutch but I may just get a new one anyway. I think I'll tell my indy to try the GT3 motorsports seal.

Perfect, I will just extend the wiring from the upper 3rd brake light to my wing mounted one since I will not be using that one going forward. Thanks
David
On a 2 stop lamp car - it looks like they are just wired in parallel. Even the wire colors are the same. -
Loren, you mentioned that the -51 harness supports the brake light... I just bought that harness for my car since I have a fixed GT2 style wing but there is no 3rd brake light connector on it? The GT2 wing reuses the factory 3rd brake light that was in the old engine cover spoiler so how do I connect it? Any suggestions?
"Hmm.... both the original Aerokit Cup and Aerokit Cup II parts lists show the 996 612 070 51 Wiring Harness. The 996 612 070 04 Wiring Harness does show up as a valid part in another kit. The -04 kit looks like the one for no stop lamp and the -51 looks like it does support the stop lamp"

Okay, I followed Loren's advice from a search I did here and ordered the wiring harness for a fixed wing spoiler (part #996-612-070-51). This harness however only had two connectors on it for the engine light and the cooling fan... the wing I have has a 3rd brake light built into the base (gt3 style) but the harness does not have a connection for it. I noticed the factory 3rd brake light now works below the rear window... did I get the wrong harness? or do I need to use the 3rd brake light wiring from the car mounted location and run it to the new wing one? How are other people who use the GT2 style wing with GT3 style built in base wiring up the brake lights? Help???
Car is a 1999 911 C2!
Thanks, David

Thank Loren, I was hoping it was built into that upper light console. I have a lead on a turbo overhead light console that I may try to retrofit.
How hard can the wiring be anyways, its one a single positive and negative connection right! :P
David
I'd bet that you could pilfer that whole assembly from an '01 and tap into the power to run the LED. Should be relatively uncomplicated. (I know, famous last words). Probably need to look at the parts diagrams and numbers to see what changes. -
Okay, I have checked the forums and tried other online sources but this question is not really covered. I have a 1999 911 and know that the 2002+ models had ambient lighting upgrades done to them. What I really want to know is what lights were added (locations) and if any of them can be added to my 1999 model. Ideally I want the upper roof lights if there were any. My Audi had those and I really liked them for night time driving. Has anyone tackled this before? Thanks
David

Okay, does this work for the engine cover too? I just bought a 1999 C2 and the rear engine cover will not release unless someone is lifting on it while the handle next to the seat is pulled up at the same time. I would love to be able to open the engine cover without needing two people! ;)

Yes Loren, I thought I would add to this myself... I usually try searching before I post a question but the intelligence on this search engine is not too good (I DO LOVE THIS FORUM THOUGH!). Makes it kind of tough to do searches sometimes... is there a way to upgrade this feature to make it a little more accurate?
