  1. Hi, I'm trying to replace the oil check valve to fix the momentary low oil pressure at start after the car has sat for a period of time. There doesn't seem to be enough clearance to extract the valve from the crankcase even with loosening the oil resevoir lower support. I don't want to force the accordion section of the oil pipe. Any hints? This inquiry might not be necessary if I could find a reasonably priced workshop manual for the turbo, but all thats out there is for the rest of the 996 range, not including our cars.   2. In a TT the brake fluid and clutch fluid are completely seperate - one can not affect the other.

    In a TT the clutch shares hydraulic fluid (Pentosin) with the power steering - so the problem you are seeing could be with either the clutch or power steering system.

    Is anyone turning the steering wheel or actuating the clutch while the engine is off? As I mentioned above - this would cause the fluid level to rise (per the service manual).

  4. Maybe this wasn't clear, but I'm accumulating fluid in the clutch master cylinder resevoir up front in the luggage compartment. It seems to be leaking into the clutch master/slave system from the hydraulic power pump as this fluid gradually diminishes as the master cylinder level goes up. Where could this be happening? What fix? Peter

  5. This is strange, but the fluid in the clutch resevoir seems to be increasing in volume. It will overflow, simultaeneously with loss of fluid in the engine's hydaulic pump resevoir. This happens slowly. Is there a potential interconnection between thse two systems? Everything seems to function fine, but there is something amiss somewhere. Peter

  6. Peter, you might try resetting the windows. I believe this is done by lowering the window all of the way and holding the button down in this position for like 5 seconds (it might be raising it and holding it for 5 seconds?)

    I've tried that, with no joy. The passenger side operates "normally". The glass descends a bit when the door latch is pulled, but remains slightly "down" until the door is reclosed, then it closes up and seals. The driver door pulls down when the latch is operated but immediately goes full up as soon as the latch is released and stays up as the door is pulled shut causing the door to remain ajar. Its as if the little german window gnome has gone on vacation on the drivers side. Peter

  7. Hi, a new puzzle developed after having the battery disconnected. The drivers window will retract a bit when the door release is pulled, but then extends to the "sealed" position as soon as the door latch is released. Then, when the door is shut again, the glass won't close properly and the door stays slightly ajar. I've disconnected the battery to give everything a fresh start, I've tried "retraining" the window, and tried everything in the owners manual. Anyone had anything like this? Peter 2001 Porsche TT

  8. Does anyone know if Fuchs 15X7 wheels could be fit to a '73 911T. The car has the original 15X6 wheels with lots of clearance in the stock, non flared fenders. I would like to fit the bigger wheels , but would like to hear of others experience with this. Thanks, Peter

  9. Is it possible to jack the entire rear of the car [996TT] from the "lug" at the forward end of the engine cases that has a steel jacket bolted to it? It seems to be a natural place to put the floor jack and take the whole car up and then put the jack stands under the rear suspension. Thanks, Peter

Hi, I just obtained a 2001 tt and in replacing the aftermarket muffler with a stock unit, found what appears to be an emergency/ manual release for the engine cover coiled up behing the left taillight assembly. Could this be the appropriate place for this as it seems that the lid needs to be up to access the mounting screws for the tailight removal. I can't find anything in the owners manual about an emergency release. Thanks, Peter
