Anyone have experience with the 3M product (I think they call it the invisible bra or something). Seemed like a good idea, but I talked to a guy at the local body shop about doing the install. Said he could do it, but recommended against it. Said it was prone to discolor and crack.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Finally pulled the trigger on a track car. 87 911 Coupe with 16" Fuchs.
Any recommendations on tires? It is intended as a track car, but it will have to get itself to and from the track. Won't see snow.
I have pilot sports on my 997.
Didn't know if there was something more "tracky". Also not sure if there is a good option beyond Michelin, Pirelli, and Continental.
Thanks

Could be something wrong with your V1. I had an Escort X50 go bad on me, I figured it out by noticing it not going off when I drove by one of those signs. I sent it back to Escort & they replaced it under warranty. I sure appreciate those signs, they help me test out my detector from time to time!
I'd have your V1 checked out.
GREAT. I THINK I WILL.

This was slightly unnerving. Driving home from St. Louis, passed a couple of those fixed radar stations (you know . . . your speed is ___) and my V1 did not go off. Anyone else have experience with this?

Thanks for the replies. Seems like Radar Roy has some running fued with Rocky Mountain Radar.
MGlobe, are you in a state where the laser difusers are technically illegal?
It sounds like a great solution but I don't want to cause more problems by trying to avoid speeding tickets.
Thanks

I was heading back from a great DE event at Putnam Park put on by the Central Indiana PCA when an IL trooper hit me with a laser. First time I have seen it used in our area.
So I am thinking about a laser difuser, i think there is one called the M25 Blinder or something.
Then I read that they are illegal in IL.
Two questions,
1 do they work?
2 how illegal are they and as a practical matter do people get caught?
Thanks

A few track days ago, a guy had a roof rack for his 997 that held his track wheels. Anyone seen anything like that?

Thanks Paul. Any idea where I would get them? I checked some of the usual sites, but they all seemed to attach to roll cages.

I was at a DE event at Putnam Park (great track in Indiana) last weekend. Saw two BMW's with 5 point (?) harnesses that looked like they were anchored using the seatbelt's in the backseat. There did not appear to be any permanent hardwear. Unfortunately I never got a chance to ask the owners.
Is anyone familiar with something like this?
Thanks

If a car is a CPO (and thus has an extended warranty), is it safe to assume that a DME report would be "negative" (i.e., wouldn't show signs of abuse)?
doesn't seem like that great of a deal to me buddynino.
Alas. I bought it and I am as giddy as a fifteen year old! WooHoo

Slowmo, do you have a light down by the center console that says when the airbags are de-activated. FYI- I still use a booster seat for my 6 year old.
Congrats on your new 997! Awesome!
Yes, the light is there. I have not had one of the kids up there to see whether it shuts down.
Thanks, I am digging the car. Can't find enough excuses to run errands!

The airbags in my 2006 987S are automatic and the "smart airbags" type. They turn on or off based on the passangers weight. My daughters are 6 and 9. When they sit in the car the airbags automatically turn off. You chould check out the Illinois DMV web site too.
I am surprised the 997 does not have smart airbags.
I think it does. It was the manual that confused me. I guess it could be as simple as letting the computer decide. It just struck me as odd that the manual says the airbag is supposed to be on if the kid weighs more than 56lbs. Something must be lost in the translation.
THANKS

Just bought an 06 997 C2s and am loving every minute, but that is off topic.
I have two boys, ages 9 and 7. Both weigh over 70 pounds. The older one is 5 ft and the younger one is about 4'8".
They have been riding in the back, but it is getting a bit tight for the older boy.
Under Illinois law he can ride in the front. But do I leave the airbag on?
My initial thought was "no", but the manual says "the airbag must be activiated for children weighing over 59lbs"
Can anyone provide clarity through the darkness?

Thanks for the input. How do I get the DME report? Does it come from the dealer?

I have an offer to trade my 99 996 cab with 30k miles for an 06 coupe c2S for the car plus $45k. The new car has less than 1,000 miles.
Seems like a good deal. Any thoughts?
THANKS
I'm not sure what your car is worth but having recently shopped for an 05-07 C2/C2S I'd say the 06 is worth between 73-80K depending on options. check out autotrader. Is it a CPO car? Why is it being sold already? accident? Be sure to check out a DME report on the car. Search here on how to interpret the DME data.
At the risk of sounding like an idiot, what is DME?
Thanks

I have a 99 996 Cab with the Hard Top. Does the hard top provide much/any roll protection? If not, do the roll bars that deploy past a certain angle still function with the hard top on? Thanks!

Any info on when they will be available?
Finally found the answer. Supposed to be released in Sep 07 with cars hitting the States that winter.

Wasn't sure where to post this. Read an article in Excellence about the 910. Any idea where you would find one of those for sale?
Looks cool and sounds like they are pretty cheap!
I AM A MORON. NEXT TIME I SHOULD READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. IT WAS A JOKE! THOUGHT IT SOUNDED TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

You can not open the TSB because TSB viewing is only allowed for Contributing Members.Scouser - thanks for the info. At the risk of sounding a bit thick headed, I made a contribution but I still cannot figure out how to open the tsb.Sorry. Thanks for the help.
Contributing Members can view TSBs online, use the Retail Price Search feature, and access the Contributors Only Forum. They can send attachments with PMs, image storage limits are raised for all Contributing Members, RennTech.org email addresses are available and a personal Blog.
Contributions help defer the cost of running this site and providing this information to you. No one has to contribute but many members do. Without contributions this site would either have to go subscription or cease to exist.
That is where I am confused. I got on paypal and made a contribution. But I still cannot get in. I must be messing something up.
Diet for 87 911
in 911, 912 Series

Picked up an 87 911 over the winter. Getting ready to roll for the season of de events.
Any thoughts on an order of priority on taking weight out of the car? E.g. the air con doesn't work anyway.
Any thoughts on how to do it would be appreciated as well. Lots of enthusiasm, no real experience.
Lets go raci . . . er de'ing
Thanks
