  1. Hey Gus,

I just looked up the confirmation and it shows DELIVERED.

    Check it out.

    Label/Receipt Number: 0307 3330 0001 3789 7954

    Status: Delivered

Your item was delivered at 10:30 AM on January 25, 2008 in JERSEY CITY, NJ 07310.

You can go to USPS.COM and put in the Label/Receipt Number (above).

    Take Care,

    Will

Oh man...My building might have messed it up...for a change

    Thanks,

I will go check it out

  2. I just traded up myself - i traded in my 99 boxster for a 2000 996...what a difference...the extra room (im kinda tall too at 6'3) and power of the car are amazing!...mine is a 996 cabrio, clean car fax, 20" wheels and only 37k miles...I was out the door with tax and everything for 33k...there are some 996's to be had for decent money - you just gotta shop it a bit...

    Congrats man,

    Sounds great...

Do you have pics (registry, maybe?!?)

    Best of luck,

    Gustavo

  3. The B&M short shifter center console instructions are quite good for that part and the upper center console has been covered many many times here.

    Hi Loren...

Is this the link you mentioned?

The pictures are quite good...But do you think I can find instructions on how to pop out the AC control unit (what tools do I use...etc) and how to secure it in the new place (where do I place the AC Unit brackets?)

It seems that the manual sections (Boxster Technical Manuals Groups 6/7) I mentioned above cover exactly what I am looking for:

68 17 19 - Removing and Installing the Center Console

    70 18 37 - Disassembling and Assembling Instrument Pannel

Do you know how or if I can get a hold of these?

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  4. actually, I do.

do you want to check to make sure that part number I gave you is going to work on your car.

the brackets came out of my '00 2.7L

let me know what you want to do. If you do want them, send me your address.

    -Will

    I have a '01 2.7L... Should fit like a glove...

I will PM you my adress and you can let me know how much the shipping is...I am willing to add something extra $$$ - at least for a beer...

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  5. part number 996.573.501.00

I still have mine from when I moved my a/c to the bottom console. If it turns out you need them and/or you can't find any I'll be happy to give you mine.

    just pay for the shipping.

    let me know.

    -Will Capp

That sounds great...Very kind of you.

Do you have a Paypal account?

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  6. I did the opposite. I added the cup holders and moved my A/C to the bottom.

It was really simple. One caveat. you may need to have the a/c brackets for the upper console.

    1. pop off the front face plate of the cup holder (butter knife works well)

    2. unscrew the cup holder assembly (4 screws on mine)

    3. slide out cup holder assembly

    4. remove the left and right brackets (mine pop out)

    5. pop off face plate to a/c

    6. unscrew a/c assembly (mine had 2 screws)

    7. slide out a/c assembly part way

    8. disconnect the 4 wire modules (they are different colors. I used a small flat-blade screw driver to press down on the top of the wire module to slide them out)

    9. thread the a/c cables behind the lower console to the upper console. (this could be tricky, but just follow the cables and slowly slide them through.

    10. put in the a/c brackets for the upper console (mine just snap in place)

    11. slide in a/c assembly

    12. connect wire modules

    13. screw in a/c assembly

    14. pop on the a/c face plate.

I hope that helps. Good Luck!!!

    Thanks willcapp,

Do you have a part number for these upper console AC brackets?

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  7. Just wanted to give you an update...

I made up my mind and will stick with my '01 Boxster for 1 more year and invest on getting some Driver's Education done. That being said, I am replacing the seats with Kirkey's racing seats and doing the GT3 console delete to gain more leg and head room.

I will save some money so that I can either get a '06, '07 987S next winter or a '03/'04 996...when I can actually drive them a little better.

Thank you so much for all your feedback,

    Gus...

  8. Hi guys,

I want to do the GT3 console delete in my '01 Boxster, but my AC Control Unit is mounted in the lower portion of the dash - the one that will be removed. I will have to place it in the cupholders spot.

Additionaly, I have the OEM heated seats...and the switches have to be relocated also.

Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the CupHolders and relocate the AC controls. How much skill is necessary for the entire MOD?

    Thanks,

    Gus

PS: I did find a PDF that gives general instructions on how to install the GT# delete kit, but the lucky guy didnt have the AC in the lower console!!!

  9. Sounds like your current vehicle is still in good shape and running well. Have you though about upgrades? ImagineAuto specializes in PCars and has a proven supercharge kit for the Boxter. I think their website is imagineauto.com, but not sure...you can do a google search. They are based in KC, but can ship the package and have your dealer or indie mechanic install. They seem to ahve a great reputation.

    Hi C2cab,

Do you have any idea what the value of such Mod would be...and whether it would have a negative impact on the engine's life.

In addition, I would assume that would make the car very difficult to market if in a few years I decided to trade-up, right?

    Thanks,

    Gus

  10. I see 02-03 996 C-2's on the west coast for around $40K for a 30k mile car. I paid $44K out the door for a mint, very well optioned 03 996 with 27K miles and Porsche Cert for another 18 months. I am also tall at 6'6", and just don't fit well enough in the Boxter to think about driving one more that an hour or so at a time. The choice was easy for me to go with the 996. Dirve them back to back and I think most big guys would agree.

What sources did you use to find your ideal car...It sounds like a great deal, even though it is around 5k above my budget.

I have been using the Porsche website and Autotrader, but maybe I have been restricting the search too close to my house (100 miles)...I have only been getting very expensive certified cars or very high mileage, cheaper ones ($35,000, if you can call this cheap)

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  11. Gustavo, here is my 2 cents:

    1) You are tall, the 987 has much more head and leg room than the 986

    2) The Boxster is a convertible, how important is top down driving?

    3) Get the "S" if you want to spend that much

    4) Mid engine or rear engine?

    My vote would be a 987S. A 2005 or 2006.

    Hi White 987S,

    Thanks for your comments.

I didnt even add the 987S to my list because every S I see close to my house (NJ) seems to be well above my price range...I guess that leaves me with the 987 Base...

Is it still a much improved car over the 986?

    Thanks,

    Gus

  12. Hi guys, I currently own a '01 Boxster in great condition (40k miles), not a single problem...A couple of months ago I started thinking about upgrading it for a newer Pcar with better performance and more head room, and the answer seemed simple - a 911 of course, If a possible a couple years newer...However, as I keep on researching I get more and more confused, about what a worthwhile next step would be, or even if I should change my car, considered how many 'traps' are out there.

I narrowed down to the following options and questions:

    - '05 987 - Improved headroom (I am 6'4'') and performance, could afford a lower mileage car; Am I really gonna feel the difference on power?

    - '03 - '04 986 S - Same space, much improved performance, but overpriced I feel;

    - '02 - '03 996 - La creme de la creme!!! A much more powerful and well rounded car...Questions: am I ready for to benefit from it? (I am not a very experienced Porsche Driver, but a good overall driver, raced Formula Kart in the past) Can I afford it? - I have seem prices anywhere from 35 to 50k - How much should I actually be paying on a 25-35 k miles 03 Carrera with clean carfax and good PPI?

    - Keep my '01 986 - I would not be spending any money and the car is in great condition, I could even change the seats to get a little more room...but now that the bug has caught me, I just feel I need a change....

PS: Ideally I wanted to get something between 30 to 40k USD...

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Best,

    Gustavo

  13. Hi guys,

A Pre-Purchase Inspection has proved very valuable when I almost purchased a '03 996 with 20k miles, which was an aesthaticaly perfect, one-owner car, but turned out to have an RMS leak identified by the inspection. That being said I am now looking into Certified Pre-Owned Cars and I identified the perfect candidate - 32k miles, right options and price. I drove it, it drives nice. Plus, it had one owner and the carfax is clean.

My question then is...I am getting it from a Porsche dealer, should I order a Pre-Purchase Inspection on the car anyway???

    Thanks,

    Gus

  14. Hello,

I am considering a Pcar located 50 miles from my house but want to have a Pre Purchase Inspection done (thanks Loren for the tip). It is my first time going through the process and have no idea how it works. Will the dealer just let me drive the car away to a shop or will the company I hire perform the inspection at the dealer's place? I got in touch with the PCA from the area the car is in and am awaiting response.

What is the easiest way to get this stuff done? I am not considering buying the car without it, but on the other end there is some pressure to close the deal...

    Thanks guys,

    Any help always appreciated.

    Gus

  15. Hi guys,

I am considering trading my '01 boxster (40k miles) in for a '03 996 with 22 k miles driven. I test drove the Carrera and it drives wonderfully...that being said I am far from being a Porsche expert or having deep knowledge on mechanics. Because it would be a big investment for me I want to make sure the car is worth it. The car comes with a 30 day warranty attached. I am getting it from a GM dealer. The vehicle has had only one owner, who traded it in for a Corvette. The carfax shows no problem...

My questions are: what should I look for in the car? Is it safe to buy the car and take it to a mechanic and if I identify any problem have it fixed under the 30 days warranty? The car is in a different state...otherwise I would take it to my mechanic before the purchase. Does Porsche offer an extended warranty plan that I can buy or do I have to go for an aftermarket one (I currently have an aftermarket one on my Boxster, but have never used it).

Sorry for the many questions.Thank you so much for your help. Any opinion will be very appreciated.

  16. TireRack.com has pretty good information on standard OEM sizes.

A general rule of thumb is when changing tire size from OE, one should never exceed a 3% differential in tire diameter. I prefer to stay within 1% of the OE size. This is very important today because of all the electronic gizmos that are reading tire/wheel rotation data.

Check out my post above...It goes to the level of telling you how much 'gizmo's distortion' to expect from adding larger, wider tires.

    Pretty cool website.

    IMMO,

  17. I don't see the 2004 550 SE's selling at a premium price in the aftermarket. Nor do I expect to see the current Orange Boxsters sell for a price premium in the near aftermarket future.

I'm not selling mine anyhow nor do I expect a premium. I am not one of those lucky aka greedy people who bought a GT3 or GT3 RS and then sold it back to a dealer plus a tidy profit.

You should always buy a Porsche to own and enjoy, speculate on the stock market and not the future resale value of a Porsche.

Right...especulate on the resale value of a new Boxster :lightbulb:

Any car loses 10 to 20% of its value as soon as it is driven out of the dealership...Unless we are talking about rare instances, a Porsche is no exception - it is nearly impossible to make money by buying new and selling used, especially considered how much money we spend maitaining our Porsches appropriately...Trust me I also do it for the pleasure of it.

Anyway, my point was that IMMO it helps to have a desirable model when trying to sell the car - hopefully for an upgrade. It saves some of what for me is still - unfortunately, perhaps - a factor under consideration - $$$.

Thanks and sorry for the confusion,

    Gus

  18. Gus, you just about order this car righ now with a custom order through the dealership. I think you can get just about every option except the 303 HP. You can only get 295 right now. All of the other stuff is ready now.

    Thanks White987S,

    I kind of realize that...

However...when any OEM manufacturer packs all the optionals in a car the price tends to be lower than when a customer does so through a custom order...Plus, the limited edition status helps substantially when the time to sell the car comes...Just my 2 cents

    Gus

  19. Yet another limited edition from Dr Porsche:

    RS60 Spyder

Nick this is an impressive car to say the least!!!

Any idea of when it is going to be released in the US or a ballpark of the MSRP

Man...This is the car I want!

Gandrade1, what part impresses you the most? Thanks!

The color combination - Carrera Red on GT Silver is amazing + the details - sport seats with the back in GT silver, silver accents in the inside, roll-bars with red padding and roof matching the interior, sport seats...and the performance goes without saying...

Ah tail lights are also amazing!!!

    Gus
