  1. Hi,

I was wondering if any of you know of any Driving Education event in the New Jersey, New York Area? It is my first Porsche - hopefully the first of many...I want to make sure my driving skills are enough to enjoy the car even more.

Additionally, are there any Porsche owners gathering in the area? From these forum I see many share the same passion as I do.

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  2. Since it is posted in the 996 forum, then yes, get a 996 and hang on some GHL mufflers

Sorry....I just noticed it now...I am not really experienced in posting stuff, but if you try to read the post before you reply ppbly you would figure out that I am talking about a Boxster....

Please, let me know if you have any other suggestions that are applicable for a Boxster...in the meantime I will try to move the posting to the 986 area.

Thanks anyway and sorry for making you read the posting

  3. What kind of seats do you have at the moment? Sports or comfort? I couldn't get comfortable in the last Boxster I sat in with sports seats as the shoulder pads pushed me forward slightly. The comfort seats (the ones without the shoulder "wings") are better for me (about 6' 1", I think, but probably shrinking with age to 6'!) as I can lean further back.

I second the comment about the console delete option (if your car is RHD, I'm not sure the gain is so good for LHD) as I find I could do with more leg room in a RHD 996, so it must be worse in a Boxster.

    Hi Paul,

I currently have the comfort seats and I have been putting them all the way down...My main concern is definetly the roll bars. I can deal with the leg room...

Do you guys suggest the GT3 seats or the roll bar extension? How many extra inches am I gonna get with the extension.

BTW if any of you know a little more about the tall man's seat bracket I would appreciate.

Thank you for all the help I have been getting.

  4. I'm 6" but my torso thinks I am 6' 6"

When I sit next to my 6' 6" son, I'm every bit as tall. He is all legs, I'm all torso.

Yes, I found more room and specifically head height in a 987. I was able to get comfortable in a twinkle in the 987.

It takes some adjusting and not rocking the backrest back all the way and making the seat be down as far as it will go before my head will not strike the rollbar on my 986. I've been in a accident where my Boxster 986 was rear-ended and the careful seat position saved me a head bump. It does give up a bit of leg length room and thigh support to do it that way. When I drive 300 miles Sunday, I'll probably set the seat for more comfort on the highway at some point figuring that if any one hits me at 55-75, I'm probably done anyway. But for around town, it is a compromise.

Thanks Mike for the great advice...

I will give it a try.

  5. I am 6'2" 240 lbs. Overall I find the Boxster very comfortable but wish I had a little more room too. I have searched for the same thing and haven't found much out either. My guess is that there really isn't a way of making it happen without serious and probably issue-prone modifications to the rollbars. I keep my seatback a little forward so that God forbid I have an accident my head won't get knocked back into it as easily.

One thing, do you have the full power seats or just power on the seatback? The full power seat takes up a lot of room from what I hear so you could change it out to non-powered for some extra real estate.

And you probably know this already but the seat does move vertically a little as well. I find this to be another way to get some room or just have a welcome change in position.

    Thanks for the input James,

Yeah, unfortunately I have not found much on the topic either.

I don't have the full power seats and I already set the vertical position to the lowest. I will see how it feels to keep the seat a little forward.

In the mean time if I find a solution I will keep you posted.

    Regards,

    Gustavo

  6. Hi,

If your head hits the roll bar, imagine what

it would be like if you had a helmet on.

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

    Thanks for the comment.

I clearly imagine it would not be safe or feel nice. That's one of the reasons I posted the question.

Please, let me know if you have a more "problem solving" oriented comment. Thanks for the input though.

  7. :lightbulb:

    Hi guys,

I proudly own a 2001 Boxster and last week I had the chance to test drive a 2007 987 and I noticed there is considerably more leg room. Since I am a 6’4’’ driver and a 987 is at least 3 years down the road, I was wondering if any taller driver has had any idea on how to make the drive even more comfortable in a 986. I though about adapting the seat “trails” or even replacing the seats.

I also noticed that my head almost touches the roll bars and I don’t know how safe that is.

    Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

  8. Hi Andy,

    Thanks for your advice.

Last time we spoke I had just ordered the Focals 130 CA for the doors. I installed them and didn’t get much improvement in the bass (as expected, considered the OEM amp). I am however planning to acquire the Harvey’s Rear Kit next and hook them up to the Becker CDR 220. Later I will get a Kenwood KSC-SW1 and let the doors play full spectrum. Finally I am thinking (not sure) about getting a Nakamichi CD 500 to replace the old Becker.

My question is basically on the choice of amplifier:

    - Do I necessarily need to get a 5 to 6 channel amp, or is there any setup I can go for which will allow me to power the dash, doors, rear and sub (this is already amplified) with a 4 channel amp and the head unit. I know I don’t need much power (but rather clean signal) for the rear speakers and the sub is already amplified? My concern with the 6-ch amp is the space they take and the price they go for.

    - Do you have any suggestions on a 4-ch amp or a reasonably sized 6-ch (id I need to go this route) which would fit in the front trunk with out much modification or taking a lot of space?

    Sorry for the long reply.

    Thanks for the attention,

    Gustavo Andrade

  9. Hi all,

    I need some expert advice....

A friend of mine recently sold his Boxster and kept the hardtop to sell at a later date. His car was a '97 Boxster and I have a 2001 Boxster. I was wondering if his hardtop would fit my car.

I will need to have it painted, since his car was Red and mine is Black.

Does anyone know if it would fit and whether it is a DIY job? Do I need to buy extra parts in order to "mount" the top?

Thank you all for the attention.

This is the best 986 forum on the web!!!!

  10. Hi LP,

I just had the same problem in my ’01 Boxster this weekend – all of a sudden, the turn signal is not resetting automatically on the left turn and the turn signal switch is not locking when I try to signal a right turn. Did you fix yours yourself or did you take it to a dealer?

Does anyone have an estimate of how much it costs to have the whole thing replaced at a dealer?

    Thank you very much,

    Gustavo Andrade

  11. Hello all,

I am in the process of choosing the right components to update the audio system in my 2001 Porsche Boxster. So far, I have replaced the dash and the door speakers. When I replaced the dash speakers with Infiniti Kappa 42.7 i (specs below) I noticed a great improvement, however the replacement of the door speakers (with 5 1/4 focals 130 CA) did not benefit much the bass of my car. I further noticed that the dash speakers are 2 ohm while the doors are 4 ohm. Can that have any impact on the results I am getting now? Should I have replaced the door speakers with 2ohm’s coaxials based on the current amp I have HAES (4X40w non DSP). I don’t have the specs for it…

The other question I have is what amp should I chose (or what specs should I look) as I chose the replacement for my current HAES, based on the speakers I replaced (specs) below?

Thank you very much for your great support (I love this space)

  13. Hi guys,

I need your expert advice on the audio upgrade of my ‘01 Boxster with a 220 factory CD player and a 4 channel HAES amplifier.

I plan on replacing the (1) door speakers and (2) the amplifier and then (3) installing a free air 10’’ subwoofer (in this order). I already replaced the dash speakers with 4’’ Infinity Kappa 42.7 I and it made a big change. I am budget conscious, since I just finished paying for my car and I am looking for clarity rather than power…I would also like to keep the OEM look.

    My questions are:

    - Is it worth it to adapt the doors and install 6 ½” drivers rather than simply replacing the speakers with 5-1/4" speakers? I have been suggested Kicker 055KS525, will these do the job? I will probably be doing it myself and I am not really experienced in custom installations.

    - When installing the new amplifier, will I need to run additional wires through the doors or can I simply keep the wiring I already have? I am asking that because I realize the current amplifier allows the door speaker to play only Bass and I am not sure whether I will need additional wiring to reproduce mids and tweeters. If I need additional wiring I will probably run them when I open the doors to install the new speakers…

    - Does anyone know of any 4 to 6 channel amplifier which can be installed with minimum space commitments and yet is not very expensive… I looked at the new Alpine PDX-4.150, but it is way beyond my budget, despite its compact design

    - Any suggestion on what to get and where to install the 10’’ sub? I though about free air because it doesn’t actually need large enclosures.

Thank you very much guys…And thanks Andy Morris for inspiring me to do the upgrade..

    Gustavo
