  1. That does seem like a great price for the sensors. If your 911 didn't have TPMS as OE equipment can you convert to TPMS mode without it being a real pain?
  2. Thx to everyone for your input. There is nothing like this Forum for great technical input from folks that speak from experience. Because I'm running 18s with the narrower 265 width rear tires I decided on 7mm on the front and to risk 15mm on the rears. Suncoast sells RSS spacers in kits and they self center on the hub and include the longer lug bolts. I spoke to Suncoast before I ordered them and feel pretty comfortable that the thicker rears will work without them sticking out into the wind. If they end up being to much of a good thing, I can always sell them because 15mm seems pretty popular on the 6Speed Marketplace forum. I'll post some pictures after I install them. Lyn
  3. I've got a narrow body 997.1 C2 Cab and want to space the wheels out a bit. The wheels are stock 5 spoke carrera 18" with 10"/58mm in the rear and 8"/58mm in front. It looks as if 7mm spacers would bring both front and rears to the outer wheel arch edge, but thought I would ask the Forum members what experience they might have had. Thx, Lyn
  4. Thank you. Appreciate the time you spent checking this for me. I'm looking at a used set that have the "banana" mod that adds the additional pipe from the far side of the muffler to the crossover area of the exit pipe. Supposedly puts out the same sound volume as the PSE. The price is right, so I might as well try them.
  5. Will the mufflers off a 3.8 "S" engine also fit on a 3.6? I know that the mufflers on a 3.6 have a smaller diameter exit pipe, but are the inlet pipes on both models the same diameter? I'm hoping that a set of "Gundo'd" mufflers off a Carrera "S" will fit my C2 but can't find a reference anywhere to the size of the header pipes on either engine.
  6. I'm in Phoenix, so the ambient here ranges from low 40s to 120F. My referenced pressure readings are at an ambient of 90-100F. I'm currently using Mobil 1 0-40w, but will be switching to Motul 5-40w. Thx for your response. I'm a recent 997.1 convert after 6 years in a Boxster S without an oil pressure gauge and wasn't sure what was normal.
  7. My 3.6 engine (20,000 miles) gets between 1.0 and 1.5 Bar oil pressure at idle which equates to about 20 PSI. At speed (3,000 rpm) it reads 4.5 to 5.0 Bar which is in the 60-70 PSI range. I'm OK with the high rpm pressure, but am wondering about the idle number. What are considered to be normal parameters for oil pressure for a 3.6? Thx for your input. Lyn
  8. I should clarify that both the overhead and the footwell lights stay on all the time when the rocker switch is in the center or right side position. Neither will shut off unless the left side of the rocker switch is selected regardless of the circumstances (ie: engine on or off, doors locked or unlocked). The door lights act normally and go off in about 2 minutes after the doors are closed or when the engine is started. Are there separate limit switches for the overhead and footwell lights? No I haven't checked the lighting setting on PCM as I don't have a clue as to how to do so. I've had the car less than a week and am still discovering what makes it tick. To say the least, it's a bit more complex than my 986 Boxster was. Thx for your help.
  9. When I put the overhead light switch into the neutral or center position on my 2006 Cab, both the door and footwell lights go off as advertised about 2 minutes after shutting the door; however the overhead light by the switch does not. It will go off if the left part of the switch is depressed, but that also shuts off the footwell lights. Any thoughts as to why the overhead light might not be going off when the door and footwell lights do? Thx, Lyn
  10. Thx for the feedback. Yes i'm sure that the problem is on the inside of the lens and I have used one of the commercial polishing kits without success to verify it. I guess it's possible that the previous owner had used the incorrect bulbs at one time and hadn't considered that aspect before now. I've had the car for 5 years and do mostly daytime driving and it hasn't been a crucial issue before now. Life changes are giving me more time for longer trips to include night driving, so i guess it's time to replace them. I'll look around a while for xenons at a reasonable price and if i can't find them just replace with halogens. Lyn
  11. The outside of the plexiglass cover of my 2003 Boxster halogen headlights is smooth and without pits or scratches. The inside is dusty and looks grainy when the light are on. Is it reasonable or possible to clean the inside of the headlights, or am I doomed to replace them?? Thx, Lyn
  12. I would prefer the round 987/997 shift knob but realize that the boot won't fit the earlier 986 console. I'm sure that the shift knobs can be separated from the boots without screwing things up, but thought I'd ask if any of you had performed this type of conversion and is there a DIY on how to do so. Thx, Lyn
  13. Thx for the additional information Loren, however your response begs another question. How big a deal is it that the low beams don't rotate upward when the high beams are selected? They don't do so with non-litronic headlights, so am I missing out on a significant improvement by trying to save a few bucks and not installing the tilt feature, or should I go the extra step? Unless i get lucky and find a set with all the bells and wistles on E-Bay or one the Forum For Sale areas, I will be paying $2K for just the plug and play option. If another $600 adds a significant feature, should I go there? I was initially looking for the low beam improvement, because i don't use high beams very often, as i would guess is the case with most of us. Thx, Lyn
  14. I've been considering for a few weeks to retrofit my 2003 Boxster S with litronic headlights. I don't want to do just a bulb change and have been looking for a complete set of OEM litronic units. That's an expensive proposition, used ones are hard to come by and prices for new ones run about $2,600 from my favorite vendor, Suncoast. I found a seller on E-Bay that advertises Bosch OEM units complete for $2,000 but am a bit confused about adapatability. I spoke to the vendor and he says his units are simple plug and play replacements without a special harness, new ballast, etc. I've been under the impression that some type of special harness and a ballast unit was required to do the conversion and thought I'd ask the Forum members for some input. I recognize that I won't have the self leveling feature and can live with that and the condition of my original headlight lens is dictating that the assemblies need changing whether with stock incandescent units or with litronics. Thx in advance for your input. Lyn
  15. Loren, Forgot to mention that I had cleaned the throttle body earlier this year. Regardless, I pulled the MAF sensor and it was 55,000 miles dirty. Cleaned it and the fifference is just short of remarkable. Runs smooth while cold and once warmed up, it seems to run much smoother throughout the rev range. Thx for your advice though, as the throttle body could have gotten dirty again too and I will check it this weekend. Regards, Lyn
  16. I've noted that as the weather turns colder, my 2003 Boxster S has started to run pretty poorly when cold ( below 50 here in Phoenix is cold). Starts fine, idles fine, but does not want to take partial throttle input until the water temp is close to 180 degrees. The problem is more between the 1100 rpm to the 2500 rpm range (partial throtlle) because if you really jump on it, it will respond and run fine in the +3000 rpm range. This is a new issue this winter and i suspect a dirty MAF sensor to be a part of the problem. Then again there is a cold start circuit that I don't know anything about that could be the problem too. No CELs have shown up to make problem solving any easier and the Spark Plugs are fairly fresh. Thx to any of the members that could offer some suggestions. Lyn
  17. I would be interested in hearing input about this subject too. Pedro sells his mod at a substantially lower price that the IPD plenum and it looks to be a very similar solution with the exception of being able to use a larger throttlebody. Lyn
  18. Many thanks to Pedro and RFM. It was in fact the switch and the Audi unit is an economical and relatively quick fix. I'm 65 and a little less agile than I used to be, so it took me a bit over an hour to curl up under the dash and R&R the switch. I pulled the left hand vent assembly too and it makes it much easier than trying to do all the work from the bottom. It's been said before and I'll repeat it again, "This is a great Forum and a reassuring place to go to when you have a technical issue that seems beyond your capabilities". Regards, Lyn
  19. I must have angered the Porsche gods this weekend. First my CDR23 radio in my 2003 Boxster S goes inop and now this. I've never had a problem rotating my ignition key, until I tried to turn it this evening and it is locked in the off position. Yeah, I know, rock the steering wheel to the right/left and I've tried that approach. Still locked in the off position. I've read the tutorials about changing out both just the key switch and also the more detailed DYI about changing out the entire module. My question is, will replacing the switch solve my problem, or does the total lack of key movement mean that the module is bad? Thx in advance for your input. Lyn
  20. Loren, I went through the list of TSBs for both the 996 and 986 and although there are several listed as 9110, none have the 05/02 ID. Thx, Lyn
  21. Loren, I've got a CDR23 in a 2003 Bolxster that is original to the car. I had the radio out this weekend and when I plugged it back in "Protect" came up in the display. I took it to a local Porsche shop today and they said that their tester wasn't reading the radio. Do you have any suggestions that I might give them to help them reset it? Thx, Lyn
  22. Just curious, if you use the hard points for the floor jack when you raise the car, where do you position the jackstands both front ane rear on a Boxster? Thx, Lyn
  23. Thx to all of you for your input. Information like this is what makes this Forum great. Regards to all, Lyn
  24. Maurice, You make a good point and the caution is well worth consideration. My real interest was in seeing if any of our Forum members had any experience with the seller. Not many shops claim to do major or even minor repairs to the M96 engine and "MotorMeister" advertises that they overhaul them. Thx, Lyn Although a 3.6 would be sweet, be sure to look into the complexity and expense of installing it as compared to the relatively less complicated 3.4 install. Do a search here for threads on the topic as a starting point. Regards, Maurice.
  25. I've been considering replacing the 3.2 in my 03S in the search for more horsepower and have run onto a website for "MotorMeister in the LAX area that advertises exchange 3.4 and 3.6 engines that are 'fresh' out of repair and overhaul. Have any of you ever dealt with these folks, or heard anything about them. A 3.6 for $6,000 exchange is cheaper than a turbo ad-on and probably a much smoother running set up during the 110+ degree summers here in PHX. Thx, Lyn
