  1. Hello, Just a question regarding your repainting of the bumper. How much did it set you back? I'm thinking of having mine repainted as well. I'm sure that the number of clear coats, location in the US, etc. play a big factor, but at least this will give me a ballpark to expect. Thanks!
  2. Thanks! Great point! I do believe the previous owner tracked the car a bit. I'll get the shop to confirm this and set it up for street use.
  3. Hi Everyone, Stupid question, but I wanted to see what all the expert's advice are. The alignment on my 99 C2 Coupe is pretty bad. I took the car in for its 45k checkup and they noticed that the inside of the rear tires were almost bald! Because they didn't have the tires that were already on the car (Sumitomo....from previous owner) available, I didn't get the tires changed yet. I the meantime, I got the car back and checked out the front tires. There's a good amount of life left on them, but the inside of the tires have less tread that the outer......again, a decent amount of tread left. My question is: Do you think I should change out all 4 tires (want to get Bridgestone Potenza) or just the rears (stay with Sumitomo) and rotate the front? Of course, I'm going to do a 4 wheel alignment, as well. Regarding suspension, is there a typical mileage point that everyone replaces their shocks/struts? I'm uncertain if the previous owner changed them out, but the car still seems pretty stable. Thanks!
  4. I got my warranty from www.autowarranties.com, the parent company is Auto Advantage, Inc. I debated on getting one and initially resolved not to buy one. After my water pump died on me ($1000), I decided to get the warranty. BTW the warranty would have covered the water pump. I got the 4 year 75k warranty for about 2700 bucks....bumper-to-bumper coverage. I checked with the BBB and looked at the insurance company covering the warranty, etc. One thing I noticed was that a lot of the warranty companies use the same insurance company. For example, Warranty 4 Wheels uses the same insurance company as Auto Advantage, the only difference being how much the broker is willing to take as a cut for selling the warranty. Warranty 4 Wheels was the 2nd cheapest quote I got. So far, I haven't had to use the services of the warranty, but hopefully, it will do what it promises. Good luck!
  5. Hi OE, I read the post on the front bumper removal on http://www.realtime.net/~rentner/Blog/B600...4135/index.html , but how were you able to take off your bumper without taking off the front tires? Are the wheel well "plastic nuts" that easy to reach around the tires? I want to work on this over the 4th of July holiday, but I've got some jack adapters on order and they won't get here by then. If I can avoid taking off the tires, I'll give it a shot. Thanks!
  6. How long should it take to remove the front bumper on a 99 C2 Coupe? I've read some posts on how to take it apart and estimate about 1 hour?? If it's short enough and cheap enough, I'm thinking of asking my independent shop take it apart to clean around the radiator and AC (save myself some of the trouble). Thanks!
  7. Hello, Are there any interior LED light kits available? I've been scouring around and can only find kits for the exterior or the instrument panels. I'm interested in making all the interior lights (with the exception of the instrument panels) LED to match the HID lights. I've noticed someone over in UK selling some LEDs inside a standard Porsche bulb housing....has anyone tried these? Thanks!
  8. Hi Everyone, Sorry for the ignorance, but I've read a lot about the throttle body, etc. But, which part is it exactly under the hood? Could someone please post a pic? I'm asking because I'm taking everyone's advice to take it apart to clean the butterfly and the general area to see if I can improve the idling on the car. I've also got a rough idea where the MAF is and have looked at a bunch of other posts on how to clean it, etc. Am I missing any other preventative maintenance stuff for the idling??? I've owned the car for about 4 months and don't know if the previous owner's did this, so i'm kind of playing catch up to make sure this baby is being taken care of from now on! Thanks!
  9. :renntech: Hello Everyone, This is my first time posting here, so please excuse me for any improper etiquette regarding posting, etc. I have a 99 Carerra Coupe 2 and am having some problems with the radio reception. Here's the history my modifications on the car since I got it a few months ago: - Installed Becker iPod mod kit - Result: Radio and iPod work great! - Couple of weeks later......Installed HID conversion system (maker is Xenon-Vision)....lights work great! - Result: No noticeable problems with radio - A week later......Did keyless entry distance improvement modification - About a month later.....Relocated climate controls and installed cupholder kit - About a few days later.....Installed HID-like Halogen bulbs for the fog lights Here is the problem: - Whenever I turn on the HID lights, the radio reception drops My recollection of the radio's performance: - The radio worked fine after the iPod kit and the HID conversion (to the best of my knowledge) - During the month or so after I installed the HIDs, I drove at night and don't recall any problems with the radio's reception....then again much of the time I used the iPod - All my modifications were done in the daytime, so whenever I finished what I was doing, I did a basic test of all the electronic controls systems. - The climate controls are working fine and overall the radio is working fine, as well. - If I turn on the fog lights, there is no problem with radio reception, only when I turn the HID lights on I know the easiest thing to do is to take off the HID kit and test everything, but before I get my lazy butt to taking the headlights apart again, the questions I would like to ask for anyone's input is: - HID kits are supposed to draw less current and power than standard lights....right??? - Is there an antenna cable/wire/connection that I can verify if it's connected correctly? Can't find anything on the radio owner's manual. - I'm thinking of "shielding" some of the radio cabling in the back with aluminum foil or something and seeing if that will work. (I really like the effect the HIDs have on the car and it would stink to have to take them off) Or does anyone have any suggestions on how to shield the wiring? - Has anyone seen this problem before? Thanks a bunch for any input and for at least reading this post.
