Thankfully for those of us that put in the kits.... we can take them with us and move them when we purchase new cars.... (if they never get around to making this available for the 997 again).
Mine is still working great except the occasional attempting to acquire signal.
~erik
Even when installed as original equipment on my Cayenne Turbo I lose the signal more often than I expected. Out in the wide open it works pretty well, but driving down a tree lined street can result in a loss of signal. And sometimes I can go under a bridge with no loss and other times I get a loss that even lasts a few seconds after coming out from under the bridge. I guess it depends on the direction you are going in relation to the location of the satellite.

Did a couple of searches... but didn't come up with anything
Looking for part number and price for a non-smoker type of plug that would replace the cigarette lighter (the heated element); local dealer could not find it on their system...
car is a 2003 Boxster
many thanks in advance
I had the exact plug you are looking for in my '99 996. I don't think you can buy it separately. It came as part of a non-smoking kit that included replacing the ashtray with an open tray. It was plastic and matched the orginal lighter except it showed a flame with a line through it indicating it wasn't a lighter.

Maybe this is what happened (from the owner's manual):
Remote Control
In the multi-purpose display of the instrument panel,
you can set different variants of locking and unlocking
the doors and the rear lid as well as the
check-back signal when locking and unlocking the
vehicle and save them on the respective remote
control.
f Please observe the chapter “COMFORT” on
Page 116.
The air conditioner settings are stored on the respective
remote control when switching off the ignition
and locking the vehicle. The “Air flow OFF”
setting is stored for approx. 60 minutes and the
“Recirculated air” setting is stored for approx.
20 minutes.
