  1. I have a problem with the middle display, as I cannot read any figures, as the background is white.

    post-19079-0-27648600-1415140771_thumb.j

I though it might be just a setting, but could not figure out how to change it, if the problem is not something else.

    The other displays are fine.

If somebody knows how to and what to, that would be fantastic.

    Thank you very much.

  2. It's one relay but it's the big one that has 2 sets of pins. It typically black with a white or blue dot on it. I don't have a photo handy or I'd post it for you.

Found that, it's the biggiest relay I have ever seen in a car :) I will get it changed.

Unfortunately the roof just stoped working, can't open it, brake light on, window drops down when the hook is opened. Must be in the same department - relay.

Also what are those 2 things just next to the back/roof drain pipes. It has 2 wires coming out, are these some switchis too? Could that be a problem?

YOu can somtime smack that relay into shape. Take it out and give it a few good waps on the ground. Didn't work forme but I took it aprt and did some micro surgery...works now.

    PK

Oh yeah, used that method too :D

All seems working now, appart from the engine which packed up on our holiday in France :(

More about it here on Boxa.net

  3. 1st time the check engine came on was one day pulling into a parking space and stoped moving, then the engine light started to flash and about 10 sec it just staid on. After few days it went off.

2nd time we were pulling out from a car park (lotsa cars going out, so big queue and 1st gear only) and the engine light started to flash, again after about a min. it staid on.

Each time when check engine light came on, the car was stationary or moving very slowly (I mean very very slowly with no revs) and each time the idle went up and down couple of times (couple hundred revs only!) and then got itself to the normal again. Very similar to starting the engine.

Each time the car was running fine before and after the engine check light, thats why I bought the code scanner to find out 1st what is the code.

    The codes were pending.

    Now the CEL is off.

  4. Hi all,

I've bought the OBDII MEMO SCANNER and got the following codes:

    P0300 01/04

    P0306 02/04

    P0304 03/04

    P0305 04/04

I know that it indicates a misfire on the numbered cylinder, but how serious and what now I would like to ask you.

Is it something I could look at/sort out or is it OPC job?

    So any suggestion is welcome.

    Thanks

  5. I was talking to a Volkswagen engineer at the Belgian assembly plant in Vorst (recently converted to Audi) and the guy told me that they calibrate the speedometer to show 5% more than the actual speed. Just to handle future changes, there is tollerance on about everything and this would make sure the actual speed is not higher than shown.

    Future changes, changes of what?

That is an unexceptionable discrepancy here in the states. I can see no reason to be that far off. I've driving 1001 cars and have never seen another make/model consistently this far off across the model line!

    *flame coat on*

That can happen only in America

    *flame coat off*

    :P

  6. I have been offered door from a 996

    1. just from the pictures, would you reckon that they are in good shape to go on my wifes car?

    2. if above yes, the mirror corner, can it be replaced from ours car?

  7. I thought that every manufacturer makes that 10% higher as part of safety thingies.

So far I never have driven car which would show the exact speed, apart our company truck and that’s 'cos they must be recalibrated on regular bases.

Yes you can have it calibrated at any rolling road station (at least in the UK), but for me it's a waste of money ;)

  8. 1998 boxster

I have got the new relay for the windows, but that didn't fix anything and unfortunately the driver’s window stopped working completely. Not even dropping when opening the door (inside and outside). But the door light at the bottom of the door is working.

And the passenger window is still going all the way down when opening the roof.

    What now?

OPC in Hatfield (UK B) ) available from Wednesday - but no courtesy car, that would be end of July (Kate is using the car everyday )

Would you know somebody who would know the electrics in North London (Finchley), not just a MOT garage.

What I'm still thinking is to have a look at the door connector, again.

  9. Yes Dan, I would blame it all on relays, mind you 9years old is 9 years old :)

Now, would somebody have a picture of the relays block with comments which one does what?

As today the roof stopped in the middle of opening and I have found out that the light on the dashboard which indicates that the roof is in motion is playing up.

So what relay or switch is in connection with that warning light.

Thank you all for contributing and helping out and I'm sure that this is helping others too :D

  10. I have made some steps forward so here it is:

    1. handbrake microswitch is working - but sticking so need new one (Boxstaman???)

    2. windscreen microswitch is working - window is going down when unlached - so OK and no need for new one, yet

    3. windows - now this is a story

    a) when roof unlached passenger window goes all the way down and drivers doesn't move at all - looks like the relay = need new one

when opening either of doors, window drops and closes correctly

    4. roof - when it's wet or after a car was, it doesn't want to open - must be short cutting somewhere, no time to look for that yet

    5. water drain pipes

    a) front - in the battery compartment - were totally blocked (about 5L of water there). Now unblocked, but one fall through the hole. I don't know how big problem it is yet.

back - close to the door - didn't check properly, but looks ok. I must say that these are quite high, so water stays in the railing.

And now the **** exhaust heat shield started to rattle, but thats another story and thread

when Velryba's chick gets home I will have some pics too.

    and now the picture :)

This is the part, but I'm not sure if it is electrical or not.

If it is not :( then the problem must be somewhere else, so please, tell me these are some kind of switches :)

  12. The brake booster is located under the black plastic cover, the master brake cylinder is bolted on it.

The lift sensor is faulty and is the reason for the two bleeps. ( TWO bleeps = ALARM system fault --- ONE bleep = something not closed )

You mean one of the four plugs on the bottom of the door, in this case no problem.

this is a great help RFM and all of you, thank you :)

Now, would you know how to open and clean out the booster, I think I'm good with hands if I know what I'm doing ;)

So the alarm is looking like a dealer job :(

    Yes one of those four.

  13. Ok took it all apart and have a few questions...

Brake booster - is it the part located under the battery plate? Looked all dry there, but I didn't open that as it seamed sealed.

Lift sensor - the white box was under the water and the siren was making some funny noises (short-cuts due to the water), stopped now, but there seams to be some water inside the white box - good or bad????????

Now each time the car is locked, we get the double bleep as something is open, but all is closed :(

    The door

I took the panel of on the passenger side and all looked in order and dried out.

The drain hole was clear, so I don't understand where the water was coming from :(

Just in case I have taken out the rubber plug, which is in the front of the door, so let me know if that is a big mistake ;)

  14. I must say that I have ordered from him last month, customised decals and got it all in great condition and only in about 3 days (into UK!). We also had come email exchanges as to explain what I was after, and got the reply right away every each time.

Yes the above is not good, but just say that I had a very good feeling and satisfaction from the deal.

    just my 2p/5c ;)
