  1. hi, just picked up a used hardtop due to necessity....my soft top broke... well the hardtop is not the same color but i actually like the combination look but my wife says paint it the right color... what do you guys think?? well enough of that .... its missing a trim piece and was wondering if any of the porsche guru's knew what part it was...its the part that covers the center latch...i've attached an image...
  2. Have a question for all the porsche masters out there....my soft top broke and i need help getting it back and running... here's what happened.... after driving 6 hours from san fran to la i decided to put the top down.. i go and lower the top and i suddenly hear a pop from behind the drivers seat so i immediately stop pushing the button.. i go to look at it and the top looks cockeyed meaning that the left side was totally crocked compared to the right i try raising the top and not problem so i try to lower it again which it does but the left side doesn't seem to want to slide in under the clam shell on the left... look at the right clam shell and it seems to be out more vs the left... have a buddy put the top up slowly and then have him lower the top slowly as i watch it and again the left is jamming against the clamshell i go ahead and pull the clamshell out toward the rear of the car and the top folds in like normal underneath the clam shell... don't think it was the motor since the top moved up and down....i'm thinking its probably cable but if it were the cable then the top shouldn't be able to move up and down right.. i'm sure it has something to do with the clam shell what parts are associated with it moving up/down and back.... i think that's what broke....currently its in the down position as i am scarred to put it back up.... can i put it back up with the switch or just do it manually.... any help would be great...sorry if its too long... mike
  3. Tool pants, do you know if anyone could help me try to fix my soft top...i think its the red ball joints that went out so i'm gonna buy that stuff before the meet... is there something else i should buy before i give them a call... thanks.... i can bring some beer or something...
  4. so where did you end up getting the 4 stalk?? thaknks
  5. just wanted to know if anyone out there in boxster world ever put a push button starter in.... i know you still have to turn the key and such but it just seems so cool.... any pictures with people who did would be great...thanks.
  6. As title states....if anyone is interested please post replys in the events section as i am trying to see if anyone wants to do this...thanks.
  7. hi guys pretty new to the boxster scene but have done some stuff to the car and was wondering if anyone would be interested in a work on car day in Daly City.... I have a buddy of mine with a miata who is planning to do a tech day (that's what they call em on the miata forums) sometime in june and was wondering if anyone wanted to join in.... the place is actually where i work...its a professional office building with tons of open space to work on the cars.... no one's there on saturday or sunday and there is tall bushes so no one of the street can see us.... its a great central place... next to in and out and krispy kreme, walgreens, mc donalds, kragen and stuff like that.... we could all chip in for some pizza and drinks and get to know eachother and help eachother out..... let me know what's a good date if anyone is interested....
  8. thanks guys.....you have answered my question...will order the parts...which switch do you guys recommend i buy from porsche...the footwell lighting switch or what.....
  9. okay...that makes sense...so i could just buy this wire from vw??
  10. just had my onboard computer turned on my 97 boxster and shows the temperature.... i want to add a switch and had just a few quesitons before i do or try to.... i want to know if the wires from the wiring harness in the car can just be tapped into rather than what was done in the tutorial with running terminals into it.... thanks for your help...mike
  11. also just did my stereo replacement on my box....if you want something easy that plays mp3 and wave files also does ipod and bluetooth support and the quality of aftermarket go with a blaupunkt stereo...best thing is no need to hardwire anything in as all the stock harnesses plug right in to the radio....you can even run the stock amp through cause it all just plugs in...all youll need is an antenna adapter..
  12. that's a nice start button but i actually prefer to use the oem honda s2000 button as it matches the color of the boxters interior lights...have installed these in my previous cars and am actually planning to put one into the boxster soon....it should just slide right in and wiring it is pretty easy...
  13. i believe most if not all aftermarket blaupunkt head units will plug right into the boxster wiring harness since they;re all from germany as mine did...i bought the bahamas model i believe the m or p 46....plays mp3 and wav files with two sets of preouts....oh yeah you could even buy an aux plug on ebay for like $5 so you could hook up an ipod or other mp3 player.... what i did to install the aftermarket 4 inch two way speakers in the stock mounting was first to remove the stock paper speaker out...once out you'll notice that the aftermarket speakers will not fit in there nor will it mount to any of the screws you removed....what you must to is bend 3 or the 4 corners towards the magnet direction and then slide the side you did not bend into the housing when its in there what you'll need to do next is rotate the speaker so it catches into the grove within the housing so it can't come off...now for added security that the speaker doesn't fall out look where one of the bent tabs are and drill a small hole into the housing that matches the hole of the speaker tab...once that's done you put a small screw through so the speaker won't come out... hope that helped...much easier than trying to mangle up the oe speaker and take the mounts of that....good luck..mike
  14. just wondering if you could have the rear plastic window tinted....if anyone has done this could you show pictures....thanks
  15. great to hear i could help!! enjoy the new radio looks awesome...if you decide to change your speakers an affordable solution is to buy lightning audio from walmart 4 inch two way speakers for the dash only $24.00....those speakers are made by rockford fosgate so they are well built and sound great plus they're affordable....... the oe speakers were just made of paper!! you should also try moving the ac controls to the bottom and move radio to the ac control area and throw in a storage pocket underneat the radio...use a dremel and sand down the edges nice and slow rather than trying to cut of the pieces of trim as it'll turn out uneven if you try to cut it out rather than sanding it down...
  16. this is what i did to make things easy for myself....i ran 4 sets speaker wires to the wiring harness of the stock amp that led to each of the speakers....i disconnected the amp up front and put it in storage....i did not cut the wiring harness just tapped the wires with t-taps and went straight to those wires....hiss is usually from a bad ground but you shouldn't have a hiss if you're not running an amp from you headunit...easy way to run wires is on drivers side....look at the corner on left side under the hood and you'll see a black cover with two screws-one in front and one in back (back can be a little hard to get to so use a mini ratchet like screw driver thingy to remove) open up the cover and goes straight to the front...hope this helps...adding an amp will definitely improve speaker quality then you just run the speaker outs from the amp to the oe amp wiring and all you need to run into the car are the rca's and amp turn on......good luck..mike
  17. just changed my headunit and the new sound is awesome....i actually bought a blaupunkt mp3/wav player with ipod and bluetooth options available....the best thing is that it plugs right in to the oe wiring harness so no need to wire anything or think about anything...only thing you'll need is a antenna adapter...oh yeah it also has the speed volume thing but the wires all line up and plugs right in...good luck..
