  1. yea... I probably should have tried myself, but unscrewing the CDC-3 cd-changer in the front of my car is the most mechanic thing I have ever done on a car so this would be a big challenge to me ;) especially 2 days before I am leaving to Italy for a long roadtrip (from Denmark)... Repair cost was: 870 $ incl. 2 new wiper blades and coolant... they quoted 4 hours work including diagnose.
  2. @ Rush and Jporter Thanks for both of your replys... It is the cracked coolant container, just like described. When they put pressure on the plastic tank, coolant sprayed out of the back (the hidden side of the container but the mechanic felt it when he put his hand behind the container)! They have all the tools and lifts necessary I think so hopefully the exchange will not take them a whole day - they are porsche specialists, but they had never experienced this problem with the boxster. I sure hope they replace my .00 cap, I will definitely ask them to order a new one home if that is not the case - my current one looked very worn! About the oil level and temp gauge, that was me getting nervous about a cracked cylinder or engine problem so I probably overreacted a bit... I sure hope the coolant problem has not made any permanent damage, when I delivered the car at the shop today everything seemed to run okay except the trail of water I was leaving behind me :) I hope the plastic-tank is the only problem. and the only problem I have to deal with for a while, I would really like to just enjoy my car now - I have a road-trip to Italy planned and I am very nervous about driving now - 3 weeks ago I had oil problems, now I have a coolant problem, so many problems on such a short time ... :(
  3. I went to the Porsche Shop today... It was like looking at a DYI from this place :) They removed the trunk-carpet and under it there was coolant fluid all over the place. Even the insolation was soaked. BTW. I had the water-cap with the serial .00 - if I get a new tank will I then get the updated .01 lid ? They put a pressue-tool on the water-lid and water started flowing from the plastic container like a sprinkler! They could get the part home for 120 £ and labour is 65£ pr hour - I read this was a 2-4 hour job, what do you think is reasonable ? For anyone else who has the experience I can tell you that the water does not come from just one place. It comes from behind both seats and from the middle area of the car and my car was soo soaked that I could see a trace of water after the car when I parked it. I drove it for 35 minutes to the mechanics and filled it up with water - it had lost quite a lot by the time I got there, but the engine temp never exceeded what I concider normal.
  4. I read that thread a few times now :) Thank you! I sure hope it is 'just' tubes, water pump or reservoir tank-cracks... really hope so!!
  5. Hi Michael, Thanks for the reply. Regarding the temp it is probably me who thinks all is wrong because I saw the coolant flush out of the car. The coolant spill is from the back of the car and I am pretty sure it is not condensation water (thats more between the front wheels). It is actual coolant being spilled directly out of the car from the back area of the car... Any suggestions please ? I am still a bit worried - is this 'just a tube' or could it be a cracked cylinder head ?
  6. Hi Forum... again again ;) I sure have one very troublesome start-up to being a Porsche owner... First I had a RMS problem, thats now fixed and after a MAJOR service where I changed almost everything I thought I was READY to go to Italy in next week - so far mechanic bill is: 3.350 € (incl. brakes exhange) It's a 98 Boxster with TipTronic. Three days ago the temp gauge light started flashing, I read that this was due to low coolant fluid so I pored about 0.5 liter 'destilated' water into the car (blue trunk lid) and that solved the problem ... :9 One hour ago I went to pick up my girlfriend after work, it's a half hour drive and I left the car outside for 15 minutes - shut off... when I came back the temp gauge started blinking again.... moved the car 5 meters back and I could see a BIG pool of water (20 cm diameter). I went to a gas station and filled about 0.5 liters again and sloooowly drove the car home... I noticed when I parked the car at home that it had also lost one bar of oil level (2 from maximum). when I got home I left the car running just for 2 minutes and that was enough for it to spill some more water. I have read on the forum about a cracked coolant-tank - is that the most typical error or is this something much worse ? I took a picture of my dash when I got home and I thought the temp perhaps was a bit too high - what do you think ? And what should I do ?? Any help is highly appreciated, I am becomming a bit frustrated... :renntech: Quicknote: after my last re-fill I might not have screwed the lid on SUPER TIGHT, but still rather tight - I just wanted to say that in case that makes a difference. Question more: I just read about a cracked cylinder-head and engine replacement... this got me so nervous! :( are there any sings in my description that I could have a cracked cylinder or would the water not poor so much out if it was a cracked cylinder ?? I hope it would be more 'slow' and not this big pool at once. Please someone share their knowledge - I am not very relaxed right now... :(
  7. :( I tried taking a ride today for about an hour ... but it just keep blinking ! The Eject button blinks aswell... If anyone has experienced this - please let me know.
  8. Thanks !! I am wondering what is going on with the machine while the two leds are blinking   I just read about 'calibrating' of the Navigation unit on Skylers website, but I dont know how that works. Has anyone ever experienced that their navi just started blinking and 'said initializing' ?? Skylers website: http://www.realtime.net/%7Erentner/ Lots of GREAT tutorials on both very simple and rather complicated Boxster tasks! Kind regards Morten Forza WilliamsF1, Nico Rosberg, tomorrow in qualifying - 4th fastest in Practise today.... !!
  9. it seems no one knows about this but here is another update: The navigation suddenly ejected the CD but that did not solve the problem :( When I power on the NAVI it makes a noise for a few seconds and then both yellow leds start blinking. I have checked the RADIO Fuse - and that is intact. I have swapped my old 8bit navi back in and that works just fine. I have tried to unpower the car by un-hooking the battery and re-typing my NAVI code. So far nothing has worked out. Suggestions ? Am I missing a fuse - what could the problem be ??
  10. update: Now I cant even eject the Navi CD - it's just sitting there with both lights blinking. I tried momentarily to replace the new navi with my old 8bit navi and that ejected the CD without any problems. Why is there no FORCE-eject on these slot loading drives, it seems to be stuck :( ?
  11. Hello Forum, I got my order from Porsch-Apart today. One CDC-3 changer and a Navigation 16bit unit. I installed both but both of them seem to have problems. 1. Navigation. Sometimes when I turn on the NAVI it works just fine, I can see the map and choose a destination but most of the times it just says 'Initializing' system forever (10-20-30 minutes) and nothing happens - both yellow-leds on the Navigation unit are blinking yellow. I never saw them both blink on my old system and it wont spit out the CD. Questions.. a) has anyone seen the two blinking lamps and experienced the forever 'initializing navigation' ? B) can it be because I currently only have UK maps and it is trying to calculate a route even though I am in Denmark ? 2. CDC-3 I installed the CD Changer and I pressed Eject. But NOTHING happened. When I plug in the power it spins the small wheels for a second and then it is just 'dead'. The CD mechanism is stopped in the middle of the Cartridge and it wont eject. When I plug in my old CD Changer it pops out the cartridge straight away but it wont read the CD (the old one was defect so thats why I am replacing it). a) Can this be because it is made for UK power / voltage ? B) Is it simply defect or stuck somehow (force eject ??) Any suggestions please ?
  12. I have a Boxster with tip as well and in Drive mode it is very much dependent on how I drive the car, if I am already in 5th gear 'crusing' the car takes about 1-2 seconds to adjust (gears downs and revs up) and then it accelerates - this is very typical for Automatic gears. In Manual / TipTronic mode however I dont feel the hesitation you are talking about only if you have geared up 'too high' then it will be slow (but thats car-logics - for fast accelration allways go into 3rd gear and push that gear to the limit)... If I hit the speeder in my car after a red light I definitely get a kick from the accelration and 10 out of 10 times I am first over the road and I feel confident taking 'chances' in traffic - I especially think this a great part about the base boxster with tip, it is very capable of getting up in tempo in a very balanced, relaxed and effortless way, the automatic gear or tiptronic gearing is soooooo smoth - I love it, I wont EVER have a Porsche without tiptronic. BTW I had a great 'boost' after a full service where the spark-plugs and all 6 spark-plug-plugs were replaced (mine were cracked)....
  13. Where can I buy this control-unit-kit ? And is it complicated to install ? If I do not install this kit, can I then manually adjust the angle of the lamps ? Thanks ToolPants, second time you help me out this week - amazing...
  14. Hey Forum... I have searched the forum for a answer to this one... I have bought a set of XENON from design911UK. I asked before I purchased if I needed anything else, but I was told I only needed the headlights - however it seems I am missing something! Because I dont have the wires to fit the back of the headlamp - a small plug, only the wires that was originally installed in my halogens. When I turn on the lights they light up very nicely but I am not if they adjust how they are supposed to - help please :) What am I missing ? My car is a 1998 (May) Boxster, tiptronic. Kind regards Morten
  15. I couldnt manage to find that tool in the two tool-stores I went to, so now I ordered a screwdriver T30 from a online store :) It seems the screw i VERY hard :) Thanks again... :renntech:
  16. Thank you :) Great help - I ordered the tool as a screw driver as the hole on the 4-spoke i very narrow.
  17. Are you sure - also for the OLD steering-wheel ? It just seems a bit too big for the old one, I know that it is the right fit for the new 3-spoke. Anyways, thanks a lot for the quick answer.
  18. Hi, I have tried to remove the Airbag from my old 4-Spoke steeringwheel. It seems to fit a size-4 umbraco and a T25 Torx even better, but perhaps a T27 is the perfect fit. Can anyone tell me exactly what tool will fit the 2 4-Spoke steeringwheel screws ? Kind regards Morten
  19. Hello Forum :) I just got my Savannah interior boxster and I really like the color, but the seats could be a LOT prettier than they are. I tried buying some standard leather cleaner, that helped but I haven't been able to find a good product to put new color into the leather. So I have decided to buy a complete replacement from GAHH: http://www.gahh.com/product_info.php?cPath...7c262b468067f41 But I have never seen any Boxster seats with GAHH leather and I am afraid it will look too home-made ?! Has anyone here replaced their leather with a kit from GAHH or another place ? Any good tips on savannah leather-color products ? Kind regards Morten
  20. many people have purchased replicas. they look exactly the same as OEM wheels, but they are a little heavier than OEM wheels - but only ~2 lbs per wheel. they also don't have the Porsche part number on them (but who cares?). you can save a ton of money by purchasing replicas. try eBay. plenty of cheap replicas. GREAT!! That was the kind of answer I was looking for and hoping for! I know just about nothing about tyres - what are the optimal profile tyre to fit on a 18" alloy in your opinion ? low profile or regular - brand ?
  21. Thank you Loren... That is a bit more expensive though - 2350 € excl. tyres. How big is the difference between replicas and orignals ? Has anyone here bought replicas ?
  22. Hello Forum, I currently have 'standard' 17" alloys on my boxster and I would like to upgrade to 18" Turbo II alloys. But whenever I find them online they are replicas (Design911.Co.UK for example) or the company doesnt answer about the originality of the alloy. Even my porsche mecanic offered me a set of replicas. I would like to know the differences between originals - price, design and quality. I have seen a set for 995 Pound for 4 x 18" Turbo II alloys + tyres, but they are replicas and I dont know if they are horrible copies. What is your opinion about replica-alloys from design911.co.uk for example ? Can anyone give me a tip to where I can buy original alloys online (fom Europe) ? Thank you in advance! :renntech:
  23. Thank you Loren, that was exactly what I was looking for. I hope the .12 EWD part fits my car, the company says the 'think' it does and offer me 30 days refund. Thank you for the tip with the wires, I will be carefull . Any tips on what EWD stand for ? and any advice on the software upgrade to version 5.43 mentioned in Lorens link ? How do I upgrade it ?
  24. doesnt anyone know ? :) Which tools do you need to remove the Navigation CD reader ?
