  1. You will always find a great variety of answers to the type of questions that you ask. There are really two answers; either you follow the wisdom of the manufacturer or you follow your own beliefs. Personally, when it comes to what I deem to be reasonably priced maintenance items such as the poly rib belt, transmission fluid, engine oil, fuel filter etc. I tend to change these items more frequently than recommended. My theory is that you cannot damage a vehicle by changing the fluids, fuel filter, belts ....... too frequently. Am I wrong? Do I spend more money on maintenance than is necessary? Am I OCD?

It is just something that I can live with

    What are you comfortable with?

  2. I use a Valentine-1 and a built in K-40 (www.k40.com). The V-1 gives a much earlier warning than the K-40 most likely due to the position of the antena. The V-1 is mounted high inside the windscreen while the K-40 antenae are mounted low in the front bumper and the rear license plate ring.

    Valentine-1 with remote display

  3. If all diagnostics are within spec you may consider a "force balance" (I believe is what it it called) or perhaps load balance. Not real expensive however, not all shops can perform this test and the tires must be warm before testing. I once had a 7 series BMW with a shake in the steering that would not respond to any corrective measures. The aforementioned balance demonstrated a bad belt in the tire. New front tires promptly fixed the problem.

  4. Loren,

Thank you for the information. I purchased the vehicle out of warranty with no rattles and/or problems. The slight rattle showed up after spending two months on the not so friendly streets of New Orleans last summer. Unfortunately this is one that I will have to live with or pay out of pocket. I have no leaks and the rattle is not a significant problem (even as anal as I am) so, unless it gets worse; I will live with it.

Me dealer and there Porsche tech do not like to hear that I had educated myself from internet sources. In fact, they were uncomfortable with my knowledge of the TSBs and challenged internet sources in general rather than answering my questions. Go figure???? A customer actualy interested in his car .....

  5. Loren,

I was told by my local dealer that this particular TSB called for between 12 and 15 hours labor plus the cost of the two parts. What is your input regarding this? What is the price on the parts? I emailed Sunset a month ago and never received a quote. I have a little rattle once in a while however, nothing to warrant the cost described above if the dealer is in fact correct.

  6. That's it!!!!

I appreciate all of your assistance with regards to this matter however, it goes to the stealer this week.

I have run out of time and patience on this task. The dealer is telling me that it is the motor; which I know is probably BS however, I ordered a new motor to go along with the regulator and both will be changed. I usually change everything associated with any problem anyway to avoid future inconveniences. This will be the case here but I will not be doing the work; this time.

I have worked on my own BMWs for nearly twenty years and I have now been thwarted.

Thank God the human body makes more sense to me or I wouldn't have a job.

  7. Looks like a K40 radar detector. http://k40.com/home_main.html

I have one in my car (front and rear detectors) and I also use a Valentine 1. The Val 1 is superior in detection most likely due to the fact that the detectors of the K40 are mounted so low.

Found this interesting license plate frame on a Cayenne Turbo. The top bracket bar has some kinda gadget that caught my attention; I've circled it in a yellow oval. If you look close you can see what appears to be infared sensors; the one on the right is rectangular, the one to the right a sqare. My initial thought is that it was either a backup camera or a motion sensor. The lenses are red, so I don't think it is the former, and the vehicle had the factory installed backup sensors in the bumper so it would seem redundant for the latter.

So, anyone seen this thing before and know what it is?

My wife's guess is a radar detector; if that is the case I would like to know where to get one for myself.

  8. For a few months now my passenger window would periodically roll all the way down upon opening that door instead of stopping at the 1/2" or so point. There would then be some very quiet noise from that window as if it was trying to figure out what to do for approx. 5-10 seconds. During this time, input through the window control switch will go without response. After this time the window would function properly.

Two days ago, I noticed that the window no longer drops the 1/2" upon opening, when it does stop as it is supposed to instead of going all the way down. It will make a sound as if it is dropping properly however only move an unappreciable amount.

I know that this is confusing as I am having a difficult time describing the problematic behavior.

After reading other threads, I am thinking that it may be the window regulator. Does this sound correct? Any other considerations?
