  1. I know people who have close to 100k miles with SMG with absolutely no issues. The failure rate isn't that much higher than cars without SMG. As far as DSG and such I don't know.. Dave
  2. Actually each dash is suppose to represent .4 litres, so if he is down 2 bars he is down almost a full litre, granted 2 is still too much. Dave
  3. This is looking good for the 'ultimate' CAI then? Airbox, throttle body, inlet hose and oil filler tube. The Porsche independent I mentioned has ordered the parts and I will be speaking to them again next week to arrange a time for a test fit. I'm not sure when I will be able to lend them the car but I will post back to this and other Porsche forums with impressions and dyno graphs after we're done. We're also intending to do stock dyno runs, header and catalyst runs, header catalyst and airbox runs and then over the next couple of months, the 9ff cams / headers / cats / ECU both with and without the CAI kit above. We'll then hopefully be able to give the whole Porsche community out there some real independently tested feedback on what works and what doesn't and in what combinations. Whilst doing the dyno runs, we'll be carefully monitoring the engine coolant and intake temps to ensure no timing is being pulled by the ECU. All runs will be done using 99RON fuel. Ian W Thanks Ian...I wanted to do this right now as well but I am leaving to Japan for about a month...I got all my exhaust parts-X51 headers, AWE 200cpi HJS metallic cats and mufflers (although I am switching to Borla). I am about ready to pull the trigger here in the states for the X51 airbox, throttlebody, airtube and oil tube. I am also considering doing the RSS intake plenum along with this. Good luck on your endeavour and please fill us in...waiting with baited breath.... Dave
  5. The X51 throttle body does fit, according to RSS here in the states who manafacturers a new intake distribution tube said the X51 throttle body will fit the non X51 intake. Dave
  6. A lot less than the TT. My total outlay will probably be in the $6-7krange. The exhaust is about $3k the intake parts will run about $3.5k with install. Remember this is with not changing the heads and don't go with PSE. Dave
  7. You can get most of the X51 parts actually pretty inexpensively from Suncoast Porsche and such. The heads are the most expensive part of the X51 package, but from my understanding its just that the heads come preassembled with a stiffer valve spring to tolerate the extra rpm the X51 will see. I would do a mixture of both, which is what I am going to do...I plan on X51 airbox, intake manifolds, throttle body, the plain jain 3.8S head along with X51 headers, 200cpi cats and a Borla muffler. As far as ECU I am leaning towards Revo as they seem to have more tuning capability than GIAC does. The intake parts I mentioned for the X51 total around $2500.00, plust $600.00 for the X51 headers. The Porsche PSE is a ton of money and alot to install. The price of the PSE will pay for headers/cats and mufflers. You can do this for alot less than the $17k Porshce wants for it, but it won't be factory installed. Porsche dealers also can add the peformance kit but it comes in around $3k more than just ordering it that way from the get go. Dave
  8. we are not talking about the just replacing the euro springs, its the whole euro 20 mm sport suspension , which included, new sway bars, new spring , struts, bushings. Hi, Sounds like you have it covered. Are the struts made for PASM or will you have to abandon the computer strut stifness? I thought that the european cars did not have PASM. Paul They do, and the car automatically is lowered an additional 10mm upon engagement of the "sport mode" for the PASM selection, US cars don't get the auto lowering. Dave
  9. You can gain access to the screws for the oil filler tube by removing the alternator. No engine R&R required. Thanks for your input...you have PM. Thanks.. Dave
