  1. Just get it up off the ground and have a look. Probably Fritz just forgot to tighten something down before it left the factory and it rattled loose. It happens.

Tow truck picked it up yesterday (after talking to Porsche USA warranty dept.), Dealer should call today to see what they found.

    I'll keep you all posted.

  2. So I'm driving my 2008 Boxster S LE and I suddenly notice the exhaust noise is much louder than normal(it was raining), almost like the sound of a blown manifold gasket... The car only has 4,000 miles on it and the closest Porsche dealer is 180 miles away...

Any known issues with the sports exhaust?

Is it possible that water got in the air filter?

Cauld the cold water getting on the hot exhaust have anything to do with this noise?

  3. Wow! is all I can say. I had a 2002 that I had purchased new and I thought I would never drive another car that handled as well as it did. Boy, was I wrong! I just purchased a 2007 demo model yesterday and what a difference. Although it is a base model, it has the optional 6-spd and the active suspension button. Tight on ramps that I used to take at 50-60 MPH before I am able to take at 60-70 now and 80+ with the active suspension activated. I was very apprehensive about letting my 02 go with all the upgrades I had added, but in just one day I no longer miss it. I can't wait to get it flashed. The sales man stated that in two months they will have the equipment to bring my base model to 300 HP for around 2K. The only bummer is that it is raining and I've been using the daughter's oldsmobile today... please clear the skies!!

Wow if you can reach at least 297 hp you'll see just the type of "beast" you have purchased... The 987 is one of the best balanced cars out there.

    Congrats on a supreme purchase....!!!!

  4. Hi, I have a copy of a 2007 model PCM2.1 DVD - labelled as 10/2006. The code on the disc is 997.642.255.05.7L5.919.859.AP. Contact with your email address if you want me to send it (about 2GB of data). Mike

Shouldn't the 2008's come with the most up-to-date version?

They no doubt do but I didnt get my copy from a 2008 model. I thought a late 2006 version was better than the 2005 version that britairdog already has. But if soemone has a 2008 UK version - I'm interested in getting a copy too ;)

    Mike

Mine is a 2008... but the dvd is from 2007

FYI... Dont buy the update disc for this car (your orange pumpkin), the map update disc is designed for 'aftermarket' installs. The actual map on the disc is exactly the same as the 05.2007 one that came with your car. If you ask me how I know, I compared the files on the my one against the 'new' one, they are the same in name, size and date-time stamp.

Ok, so I will continue to live in "no street" haha, thanks for the heads up Nick

  7. The car can be driven in "sport mode" with the PASM set to normal by deselcting the PASM once sport has been selected.

    Where is this menu?

Thanks for the clarification on the sports exhaust system.

There is no menu and this is only available if you have PASM and Sport Chrono (or Sport Chrono Plus) Then you will have two buttons next to your spoiler button on the lower console under the HVAC controls. One is labelled Sport and the other is labeled with a Shock Absorber icon. Pressing the Sport button turns on PASM and "sport mode" (edgier throttle, later ABS and less invasive PSM) then press the Shock Absorber icon button to turn off PASM.

    Regards,

    Alan

The PASM is not available when you build your porsche (the limited edition) in the website... That was my question... it's is not available in the configurator, yet the specs say it has it... Or to put it in other words... if PASM is not available for the limited edition Boxster S, what is the purpose for the Chrono Plus...?

  8. Nick, you seem to know about these cars... I have a couple of questions...

1.- The website shows Porsche Active Suspension management as part of the specs for this car... Is it on the car?

2.- The PSE is "active"? Do I have to have the chrono on to be able to get those pesky extra HP?

3.- The sport button changes the mapping... but does it also change suspension settings and exhaust?

  9. Today I contacted my Porsche dealer to ask if I could buy an updated navigation CD for my PCM system. My car was supplied in June 2006. I was not entirely surprised, but so disappointed, to hear that in the UK a new CD disc would cost more than 400 UK pounds ( $800 USD) I have deferred a purchase for a year or two. Meanwhile, has anyone tried to copy the latest Porsche nav CD and might make it available?

Apparently you can, not that anyone would ever do that ;), and even if I knew someone who has, the disc they may have copied would have been the US version.

How do you suppose someone with an Orange Boxster in Texas go about getting that copy? ;)

  10. A new limited edition... How many limited edition boxsters will they make? I gladly purchased an orange Boxster because of the limited availability. I thought this car will someday be worth a lot. Well there goes that... the new limited edition also has the aero kit, and its grey...

Tantrum aside, this new limited edition has a couple more ponies... Here is a question...

The orange Boxster S accelerates to 60 mph in 5.1 secs, as opposed to the regular Boxster S (5.2), the orange S has the sports exhaust, but is listed at the same hp... That said the RS 60 is listed as 303 Hp and has the same acceleration figures as the Orange Boxster S...

Could it be the Orange Boxster S also has 303HP??

If not... how hard can it be to achieve 303 or even 310hp in the Orange Boxster S???

  11. I just traded in my 2007 987 for a 987S...

    This is what I recomend:

The S is not just an ornament... get it...

The chorno package is well worth the money

    The Bose system, great investment

The GPS could be bettered, but it looks nice,

    Get the wind deflector

The preferred package with rain sensors and automatic AC is great (too bad it was not available for my pumpkster)

    Get the Carrera wheels...

Wait, wait, wait... get the orange special edition pumpkster!

    :)
