  1. hey update on my experimental fix.... it looked like it worked! The JB weld was actually able to stop the coolant leak. After i wiped off the residue and cleaned the outside of the tank. I just put globs of that stuff underneath the coolant tank. It completely stopped the leak, seems that stuff can handle temperatures up to 500 degrees :jump: BTW....i drove for a few days already with my ghetto fix, and its holding up well :drive:

  2. Openwater did replace the tank himself.  And he did it from the top.

I have not done it but Peter said the hard part is getting to the spring band hose clamps due to lack of access, which you replace with normal worm gear clamps.  That is why I bought this tool, just in case.

It is a project you can't film since you cannot get a camera into the engine compartment where the hoses and clamps are.  If you have a place to work on your car I'll give you a hand.

Thanks Tool Pants, I appreciate your offer. Perhaps we can do this during a work on cars day. In the meantime, I'll fill up the coolant again to be 100% sure its coming from an opening in the tank.

  3. I have this problem now too!... and i'm in the Bay Area! anyone want to film this procedure? As a temp fix, is it possible to use JB weld where the leak is located? It isn't forming any lakes, but my cooland level has definately dropped and I see some wet spots on the floor of the trunk.

    Thanks

  4. I cannot figure out your electrical over the internet.  Next.........

yeah I understand...ok but more news...i think i really found the cause now. Its the radio. with just the dash plugged in, the amp usage just pulsates, but never above 4 milli amps. The stereo, even when off, makes the amp usage over 150 milliamps. I'll just leave that fuse unplugged for now. Since i'm going to get an aftermarket stereo, I'll just live without music while driving.

Thanks for all your help

  5. ok after pulling out the fuses one by one, I narrowed it down to 2 items, each of these cause my amperage to go over 150 mA. The radio and the instrument cluster. i guess I can leave the radio off for the time being, but I dont know about the instrument cluster. should I just take it to the shop to have them figure out the rest? without any of these 2 fuses in, i'm getting a reading of 40 mA

  6. Hi Loren

I've tried pulling out the bulbs and my battery is still getting drained when leaving it parked. I took a measure of the amperage and its way over 150 milli amps. Could you give me some suggestions on what I should try next? I think I'm going to start pulling out fuses one at a time and see when the amps drop, I think think there's a short somewhere

    Thanks

  7. So I think this car is pretty hot :) . but I can't afford it, but with the help of you , perhaps I can. All i require from each person on this board is $300 dollars. with 1700 members and $300 dollars each I'd be a happy camper. BTW...by donating to my Carrera GT fund ..you can sit in my car

  8. Hi Everyone

I'm a 23 year old software engineer living in San Mateo/San Jose,CA. I recently started lurking your board after I purchased my 2000 Boxster S a couple weeks ago. This place is full of useful information. I look forward to meeting some of you Bay Area people at gatherings or the Work on Cars events. :D
