  1. Can this be done...aren't the cayenne headlights sealed or are they two pieces??

    http://www.knclub.ru/f/thread1928-7.html

Do you have a translation? Did they have to break them apart or are they 2 piece?

no breaking from what i can see, they heat it up with industrial "blowdrier" and take epoxi (or whatever that compound is) out. the front "glass" is then separated. (i can also see reports of people putting it into microwave. i wouldnt try it with 2007+ headlights as there is a lot of metal there)

Cayenne headlights (i have 2009 T and maybe it is different on pre 2007) have sealing around front part but they are not hermetically sealed overall (there is a drain hole at the bottom)

p.s. for translation try World Wide Lexicon Toolbar

  2. i can see that the only part required for retrofiting voice activation on PCM3 is the enabling code and new turn indicator switch (i have microphone already). Lets assume i have the code. the only difference with turn switch from a non-voice car is a button at the end of it. Looking at TSB I cannot see any cables that connect the turn switch and all other switches on steering wheel column to PCM. can anyone tell me how it is connected? are all signals go through CAN?

  3. just an FYI there is software update from v1.1 factory (09) to v1.4 with the followings bugs fixed:

Here are the current "bugs" which are addressed: "INFO" and "MAP" buttons do not function if "INFO" or "MAP" is used to leave an open route list. <li>Incorrect display of remaining range when in "miles". <li>FM audio is muted until source is changed to AM. <li>When a saved preset station is selected, the wrong station is displayed. <li>In "ASIA" coding, RDS does not function. <li>Intermittent loss of XM radio. <li>Display does not match with the selected source. <li>iPhone: Audio playback does not restart after phone call. <li>USB device not available until system restart. <li>Only USA: Maps set to European styling (wrong highway colors, POI icons, etc.) <li>Temporary disappearance of TMC (traffic) messages during a drive cycle. <li>For Voice Control, the "closest gas stations" command results in a list of the closest hotels. <li>Bluetooth disconnection with Nokia mobile phones. <li>The first activation of any function of the steering column switches (i.e. turn signal) ends a current telephone call. <li>The opposite party cannot be heard in the vehicle if a phone call is made immediately after system start-up. <li>Pairing or connection with a mobile phone via Bluetooth is no longer possible, although it had previously functioned.

all this from suncoast page where they sell it for $13

rethorical questioon - why would Porsche join the rest of the world in the 21st century and make their bug fixes available for download?

  4. Yes, bit fiddley but just pull the strap and the bottom section should move forward a few inches and then you can pull it upwards, if you try and just pull it upwards without it going foward it will only get to the 45 degree postion

maybe it is new on 2009 or just Turbo models but my seats on the back would not fold flat. they turn only abot 80 degrees out of 90

  5. Certainly if you are now in the UK rather than USA if the beam pattern does not have the correct cut off you will fail the MOT (vehicle road acceptance test) and have to buy two headlights.
regardless of the beam (which are different under DOT and E standards) you have to buy European headlights as inspector will look for "E" in circle marking on the headlight. That is how in my case they determined compliance (they had no clue about beams)
  6. Understand Porsche as of a couple of weeks ago has changed the process on importing a vehicle making it more expensive for us Canadians who want to buy from the U.S. Has anyone recently brought a car across the boarder?

About to buy a 2008 Cayenne GTS in the U.S...wanted to see if anyone has experienced this new process and weather it is worth still buying in the U.S.

Hear there is an additonal $1250 inspection fee that is now done at the Porsche dealership once the vehicle crosses the boarder - and if anything fails, warranty doesn't carry over - seems abit unrealistic...we are at the mercy of the dealership who can be real assho*** knowing that the vehicle is from the U.S.

Has anyone recently experienced the shipment of a porsche vehicle across the boarder?

    Cheers,

    B

go to "search" put canada and import. press "go"

  7. Have you disabled the interior alarm from the main menu?? I have a friend with an '09 S who had a radar detector that was hooked to the ignition and the interior alarm would go off once a day when shutting off and locking. He also had the lights on a 15 second delay which when he disabled the interior alarm was all fixed. He then removed the detector and enabled the alarm and no problem.

how do yoou disable it? going trough settings in dashboard only disables it for one time and then iit comes on again. annoying as hell

  8. I have not imported into Canada (want to say upfront) but imported 955TT into France (a lot more differences in spec and standards). I have looked at tons of websites before and came across few posts like this which look like they are written by porsche dealer who doesnt want to lose business. Asking porsche local whether it is ok to import a car is just about the "least wise" idea. I can tell you what the answer will be. And those people lie a lot. Importing a porsche is no different than importing any other car. Worldwide warranty is 2 years on new cars. It has to comply to local safety standards (not to Porsche dealer preferences). Look at parts catalog. The difference between US and Canada will be minimal. Change those and go to local certification office. Looking at what kind of junk people are still allowed to drive on roads these days it is not that difficult to meet local safety standards.

  9. I've heard that the USA xenon headlighs are different than the european ones. I've imported a USA boxster 987 into Europe, and I need to replace one headligh, anyone knows if I can use the european model in a USA vehicle?

    Thanks!

    Chema.

i have not done it on 987 (only on 996 and 955). plugs and form factor were the same - the only difference is marking on the glass (E vs DOT). it would be too expensive for Porsche to have too many differences between regional versions so i guess with 99% certainty you can swap one for the other
  10. Aftermarket connector?? Porsche wiring is equipment/option specific, you should have to go in to the existing wiring IMHO.

it may not called aftermarket connector, what i mean is there should be a connector in the car somewhere, which is supplied for installing aftermarket accessories into the car, so we dont just tapped into to any other circuits.

"should be" but there isn't one. take power from lighter. that is all you can "tap" in that car. i assume you are not trying to integrate external dvd with your sound system because that is a different game altogether
