  1. A. you still need activation code from your dealer for this to work (activated by PIWIS - 10min max) !!!!!!!

    B. you should be capable of soldering IPOD connectors (30-pins) or find workaround (like buy IPOD cable from Porsche)

    C. I could not find who manufactures USB connector so this DYI is only for IPOD and AUX-in

OEM parts (from TSB 9122) we are trying to replicate

955.642.351.10 console (goes into storage tray between front seats on Cayenne)

997.044.902.43 wire harness (with green connector. it goes into lower right hand side of a big connector if you are looking at the back of PCM)

    997.612.471.01 Ipod Cable

To replicate IPOD+AUX part of wire harness you need at one end a green connector as on picture. I don't know its part number so I used blue connector 955.044.902.44 ($2) (on a B&W picture) plus pins 999.650.135.22 x10 ($4-5 total). In blue connector I removed the "bump". If anyone knows the green connector number please tell me. Alternatively use standard IDC 2.54mm 12-pin female connector (will be tricky to plug in but anyhow). On the other end it is IDC 2mm 10-pin female connector that plugs into console 955.642.351.10.

Wires used are from old Ethernet cables which all of us have plenty (8 wires in each but you only need 9)

Pin-outs connections (image attached). If anybody needs IPOD connections they are here http://pinouts.ru/Devices/ipod_pinout.shtml

There is 1.5 kOhm resistor between PCM3 pins 3 and 12. Aux-in is going into PCM3 on pins 2 and 7 through 100 Ohms resistors (one for each channel)

USB is totally separate cable with connectors looking like on pictures attached (if anybody knows where to get them tell me)

  2. North America navigation package on PCM3 has been changed to European. I assume it could be changed to any region. The process involves ordering from Porsche a DVD (not given to customer) (price Euro380 + VAT) which erases previous map data and installs new one (dont know if it is on the same DVD). I asked but was not given either part number or disk itself. My PCM now also has new regional code for Europe.

Rumor has it new firmware upgrade for PCM3's is coming out in April

  3. if its a CT its real, it drinks the stuff

I seam to remember reading somewhere Cayenne "check oil level" comes up every n-"please refuel" regardless of oil level. is that correct?

strange thing is that after car has stayed in garage for few hours oil level (according to dip stick) is normal. also the two messages "refuel" and check oil level came up simultaneously. i dont believe in coincidences

  4. I work with Jeff Clark at Sunset for what seems like every other week for parts for either the Boxster or one of the Cayenne's...what great service and prices. Love those guys at Sunset...specifically the service I get from Jeff.

    All the best,

    Bill B)

is dealer price the price i see in PET? or the dealer price less than that?

  5. Thanks for the update. Are the files still listed as.db files ? I would be interested to see if the map files are actually the same. How did you manage to find the date stamp on the database files for PCM 3 , do you have the DVD ?

I have DVD (997.642.271.50) It says on the cover "Don NOT give to customer under any circumstances" (under penalty of death :) but my dealer doesn't speak English:) files are .db. i dont know how to take picture of tree structure and file names otherwise i would post it

  6. 1) Porsche France Service apres vente/service technique.

    2) Yes, PCM3 works that way, there are no longer update disks available. If your dealer makes a phone call to them he will receive instructions how to do if a solution for your problem exist.

Question - does anybody have wiring diagram for PCM3 (2009) connectors (main square connector where all fiber and copper wires go) by part numbers i am looking for wiring diagram of cable 955.647.219.25 (bluetooth) , 997.044.902.43 (Ipod?) ?

P.S. things i have learned PCM3 Navigation disks form different region would not update. I now have spare European map Database for Europe for PCM3

  7. PCMIII is a hard design as its so different. Dont expect a good third party design any time soon

moni from nav-tv claimed his unit works back in August. people still selling his units (priced at 1600 is too much for me). i dont know what the reliability is but if one can make a connector to replace OEM solution ($400+) for ($50) with all the OEM functionality (charge, playlists, control from steering wheel etc) why bother with anything else?

  8. 6speedonline has a topic with a very happy guy who added PCM3 OEM. It is MOST solution (FM transmitter is PCM 2.1 solution). Dension doesnt support PCM3 (you can buy and try but i doubt). Your other alternative is Nav-tv media solution (bluetoth, input for reverse camera, + IPOD connector (oem parts) for which they ask $1600. if that seems too much go to Sunset parts and buy OEM for $400 something.

if you want a cheap alternative to OEM i ll have schematics next week so you can manufacture it yourself (you will still need PIWIS coding but that is the case with OEM solution)

  9. I like the car but if Porsche expects me to pay triple or quintuple for everything associated with it because "well, it's a Porsche, what'd ya expect"

then I think this will be the last Porsche I own.

Ha-ha-ha! you complain? Try Cayenne where 80% of parts are VW/Audi and are sold by Porsche for 2x price that you get if you buy from VW directly...
