  1. My 2002 C2 has had similar coolant leaks -- in my case, the connectors between the coolant lines under the vehicle (which are metal) and the rubber lines coming off the engine leaked only when I got off the gas. My Indy replaced for less than $100. The connectors are on the passenger side, above rear wheel well.

Had the P0491/0492 codes too. Chased it for months. Turned out to be cracked vacuum cannister. Of course, replaced the electric valves during all this chasing...

Good luck and enjoy the new ride. It will get fixed.

  2. Hello:

I have the same codes with my 2002 996C2. Weird thing with my car is that the pump sometimes runs for a short period when I stop at stoplight, coming off freeway or after a steady 3 or 4 mile drive. I live in AZ, so don't think it's because engine is still cold. I've reset the CEL and observed that the CEL comes back on when I stop at stoplight. Usually not the 1st stop light, but a light 5 miles down the road. Since it's intemittent, and at wrong time, I suspect valves or vacuum leak.

Is there a diagram available for my car?

    Thanks,

    Dan

Hello all, I hve exactly the same problem. What did you find out was the problem?

In my case, it was the vacuum canister. Had a crack. Drove me nuts but no CEL's since it was replaced a month or so ago. Something that helped me eliminate the valves was to cycle them off and on with my durametric. You can hear them click, can hear the pump come on. After that, knew it had to be a vacuum leak somewhere. Of course, the vacuum canister was the last place I checked...

  3. Cheers Loren,

I am going to buy the Enthusiast Package then.

I hope this stuff is easy to understand and use smile.gif

The hardest part was picking the right "framework.net" version from Microsoft -- this was needed for the installation. I use mine all the time, unfortunately for all the wrong reasons...chasing CELs. Knock on wood (and thank you Renntech), I may finally be in the clear.

P0491 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 1 - Insufficient Flow

P0492 Secondary Air Injection System, Bank 2 - Insufficient Flow

    Possible cause of fault

    - Electrical fault in power supply or line between relay and secondary air injection pump

    - Secondary air injection pump relay mechanically faulty

    - Mechanical fault in electrical secondary air valve

    - Pneumatic secondary air valve faulty/sluggish

    - Electrical fault in secondary air injection pump

    - Mechanical fault in secondary air injection pump or secondary air injection pump blocked

    - Vacuum system leaking

    - Air hose to secondary air injection pump slipped off or constricted

Pretty much the same for your car - MY02 and newer 996 Carrera's use the same DME and most emissions components as 996TT.

    Hi Loren:

The information is really great. Thank you.

I've replaced the 3 valves, fixed a broken vacuum line (broken when replaced alternator) and replaced the "check valve" since it wasn't holding vacuum very well. I oriented the check valve so that there is nothing from the vacuum line entering the intake manifold. However, it gets me a periodic P0491 code. When I change the orientation, so that it's pulling air from the vacuum line, I haven't gotten a CEL, but throttle jumps up and down a little.

Can you advise the correct orientation for the check valve? Should it prevent air from entering the intake manifold or should it allow air to be pulled from the vacuum line? Is that where the secondary air system gets it's vacuum?

Final bit of information: when I take the vacuum line off the check valve, there doesn't appear to be any vacuum or pressure. Regardless of whether secondary air pump is blowing or not. Also, I tend to get just P0491, not both P0491 and P0492.

    Thanks for your advice,

    Dan

  6. Hi all,

My radio has been acting up for a while(switching on and off by itself). I sort of ignored it cus I could tab the amplifier a few times to bring it back to life.

It became so bad, it kept switching on and off even I locked the car.

Well, the result was it drained the battery and my car was dead.

Battery has to be replaced by a new one. It has been over five years, so it is about time anyway.

The parts and labor for replacing the amp is $850! Well, thanks but no thanks.

I asked them to pull the fuse for the radio and amp before they install the new battery.

Just curious, where exactly is the fuse?

If I decide to install the amp myself, what special tools I need? Do I need the radio code?If so, where can I get the code?

    Thanks!

    Hi Hoth:

Not sure what MY your vehicle is, but I removed the Bose amps (main amp plus subwoofer amp) from my 2002 996C2 (last of the non-MOST 911s) and have them listed on Craigslist (http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/pts/757242975.html). I'm sure there are others out there on eBay also. Don't waste your money on a unit from the dealer.

    Hope this helps,

    Dan

  7. You should use Rockford Fosgate's 3SIXTY instead of the JL piece. In addition to removing the factory EQ (if needed), the unit has up to 6 channels in, 6 channels out (keep your fader and volume control), this cool subwoofer level knob which doubles as a AUX input level adjuster (you just push the knob and it automatically goes into AUX mode) and tons of EQ so you can take advantage of those speakers while overcoming the issues with them being installed in a car. There's even an EQ for the AUX input, so you can boost the extreme lows and highs to recover the losses from compression in your iPod.

For clarification, MB Quart used to be owned by RF. Now owned by Maxxsonics. That's why they went down.

I know I should describe my vehicle, I have an '02 C2 (6-spd) in Seal Grey, with grey interior over black carpet. A couple of DIY mods but will get more serious as the weather cools. My audio system is "in-process" and will post pics when done. I'm a fan of keeping the weight down, maximizing my interior space, and optimizing each component to get accurate and dynamic sound. :renntech:

  8. I was removing the door panel the other day, and this small metal clip-piece fell off from somewhere. It's about 1-1/4 inches long.

I looked everywhere behind the door panel, but can't seem to figure out where it might fit, or if it even belongs there!?

I am hoping that some of you more experienced people will recognize it at first sight!

It's the clip that holds in the "bose" logo on the speaker grille. :renntech:
