Got it.
Thanks to all for your help!

Thanks for the explanation.
I may need to go through your explanation several times more in order to fully understand. ;-)
I just purchased a Durametric Diagnose Tool and havnt tried on the Cayenne yet. So I need to toggle the switch 5 times within 5 sec to bypass the mObridge to enable Durametric, and once done, to toggle the switch 5 times again to return normal mObridge operations, correct?
Not sure about 'Once the bypass feature has been activated, the MOST bus will be broken for 2 seconds and the feature cannot be activated again for a further 10 seconds.' Please explain?
Thanks, gaoo

Happened several times in 2nd gear, once or twice in 1st gear, no problem in other gears.
Doesnt feel like clutch slipping, nor there's any grinding. Was just lack of power for a second or two ( felt like there's a 1 or 2 second 'delay' when depress the pedal, then all become normal again).
I'll see if they can find anything when the car's been serviced next week.

Anyone please? thanks

Hi there. Help needed!
Have had 99 996 RHD with me for couple of years as my daily drive. No major issue so far (touch wood). but lately experienced a 'problem' several times: change into 2nd gear, depress the pedal, no instant response ( better to say, car still pulls, but very much lack of power), then a second or two later, the response comes back, car accelerates as normal. Happened in the past month 5~6 times, never twice on the same day, felt once in 1st gear. more under cold engine condition but not all. Car was due a 120,000km service 2 months ago (delayed simply been lazy and too busy -- booked in for next week already).
My question is: is this something of a concern? a sign of something major? would the service more likely solve the 'problem'?
Thanks.

thanks loren.
spoke to my panel shop and a porsche mechanical specialist today. was told that chassis, real axle, suspension/brakes will all be checked. rear right quarter panel and wheel be replaced. and any other things found along the way. will run a diagnose as well. last similar job they did on a 996 totaled AUS$35,000 (body work + mechanics). Guess i'd find out in 4~5 weeks time about mine :-)

help! 1999 996 C2 Manual convertible. Right Hand Drive.
was hit by a truck last Friday as i was driving through an intersection. The truck ran through the red light and hit me on rear right wheel area. the rear right quarter panel / lights /wheel were damaged. I drove the car 2 blocks back to my garage and only then found the rear wheel was bent out an angle. Now the car was towed to the penal shop.
My question is: apart from the obvious body damage, what mechanical damages maybe caused by the accident, and how to find out more?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just found a better way to deal with this:
leave the centre console lid in open position, there's a metal spring thing on the passenger side of the 'lid catcher'. simply push that spring thing all the way in the direction towards front of the car, until it got stuck behind the plastic lining
this would disable the 'lid closure sensor' in a way, so you can fully close the lid and still get a 'horn' when remote lock the car.
I havnt experienced any trouble with this method.. so far :-) and it's totally reversible

You didn't cause any problems. You grounded the wire that turns on the brake light, that's all.
You want to ground pin 15, but not the wire that connects to it through the back of the relay panel.
This is done by either by bending the pin (and connecting a ground to the bent pin) or by pulling the handbrake wire from the back of the relay panel and putting a grounded wire in its place.
I did the latter because I wanted it to be completely reversible.
many thanks stefan!
problem solved
just one more question: by doing this, the brake light wont turn on when engage the parking brake in full, right?
-
You know that you have to disconnect the wire from the back of pin 15 before you ground it, right?
oh? I dont know that :o
would u explain to me in detail please?
I just grounded pin 15 without doing anything else, hope i didnt get into any trouble
-
hi all!
done the #18 pin bent, done the #15 grounded
everything works fine, except the parking brake light stays on all the time. have i done something wrong?

so, apart from all things mentioned here, is there any positive side of engine braking? why people do it?

1999 996 convertible Manual ROW (Melbourne, Australia)
Car runs a little rough yesterday (cold weather?). Found a small pool of liquid on garage floor under the engine this morning. Not oil, nor water either. no smell, a bit thicker than water with a little greenish tinge. photos below.
Would someone pls suggest possible causes?
plan to bring it to the mechanic next week.
Thanks, gaoo
