  1. I need to get the rear plastic window re-attached or stitched on my Cab. I live in Central Florida and don't know of any good repair facilities that do this kind of work. Looking for any suggested places to look for the work to be done properly. Thanks.

Hey hows it going - I had the same issue with my 911. Its called delaminating - and its a pretty common thing. Unfortunately, any of the adhesive repairs won't last long. I had this guy fix my top - i think it was around 400-500 dollars and it looked great. He stitched in a new plastic window. You will see the thread around the outside of the window on top, but it doesn't look bad at all. I'd show you a pic of mine, but I actually had a new porsche top put on (after someone had cut through my top and stole my ipod). In my humble opinion - its the most reasonable way to go unless you want to spring for a new porsche top (mine was ~6k installed at the dealer) After market tops are cheaper, but from what I've heard the aftermarket tops don't fit too well. Best of luck!

Aftermarket tops from GAHH fit very good. Plus the window is stitched in. Some new tops from Porsche come stitched in I am told but I never saw them.

  2. I install these tops in NJ. The installer may have pulled too tight in the front. Some tops come with the cardboard strip stitched in the front and some must be glued. You could steal about 1/2 inch by ungluing or opening stitches and releasing top in front center to sides on front bow. Taper adjustment from center to side, because you are commited on sides. A good contact cement must be used and allowed to dry. I never had to do this recently.

  3. updates on my insurance claim, i talked to the material damage supervisor from my insurance co today and was able to persuade him to authorize me a new top instead of the window only. basically i told him that i could have taken the car to porsche dealership and have them pay for the tab for an OEM top or i can go with a potentially bad plastic window replacement and then have them replace the whole top again. so i think he realizes that its the best solution just to give me a new top, ohh and of course being an insurance co they are charging me -35% betterment for the age of the top ( 3 yr old OEM top replaced by porsche under warranty).

i think i will go with what everyone suggest here a glass window top. small window means more time to enjoy with the top down =)

i have seen some for sale on ebay for around 5-600, anyone with suggestions??

I only use GAHH. I have changed many plastic windows in N.J. Only 1 has cracked,he put top down in too cold weather. He then upgraded to a glass GAHH top :)

  4. It happens. Mostly from heat. If you peel back the soft top, you will see where the plastic trim has warped away from the frame. If you drill tiny holes on the plastic outer edge, and on the header, use bailing or stainless wire and pull tight enough so plastic trim reaches proper position. A new headliner will do the same thing eventually. BTW that top frame in made in Australia :D

  5. I couldn't find a complete set of instructions. It's pretty involved though. Some people think the windshield needs to be removed as part of the process. I'll be doing it at some point over the winter and will document the hell out of it.

I would feel the leather to see if it is stiff, if so, its getting wet. If there is enough leather, I would pull the windshield, soften leather with steam stretch it clamp it let dry and then glue it. Based on what I see from the picture. Then use Lexol regularly. 973-635-3443

  6. Looks like someone "sprung" your top. If it were mine, I would open the top half way and try a tweak on the top to

    re-align-it.

Does it go up and down smoothly?

Tweak it? by bending it you mean? Or is it possible to adjust it in another way?

Yes it does go up and down smoothly. The right side leaks a little little bit also... And if i use a high pressure water hose on it the water basically just flows in especially on the right side but also on the left side... But i guess thats normal.

The push rod (with red or white cap) has an adjustment. Loosen bolt and extend the rod where top is too short. 973-635-3443

  7. Hi Pete.

    Thanks for the reply.

I called the local OPC yesterday morning, and got a pleasant surprise....£11.50, delivered to my door! :D

(I also ordered the rear window seals ('gaskets' in the parts book) that fit to the leading edge of the glass....£6 per side.... I thought they would be much more expensive!). :D

When you get the hook, clip off a little by the holes add glue and slide sleeve on the hook

  8. Afternoon all.

The Cabrio's roof started playing up today....towards the end of the closure cycle, the hook that locks into the header rail kept locking/unlocking, and the light on the instrument panel wouldn't go out.

Investigation shows that the hook is encased in plastic, some of which has cracked and broken off, as well as the very end piece of the hook. It was presumably the end piece of the hook that triggered the 'lock' into the header rail. I've managed to do a temporary repair that at least means the hood now locks properly, but I wondered if anyone knows if the part is available seperately.

I'd also thought a repair with something like 'plastic metal' might suffice, especially if I have to buy a complete hood to get a new hook!! :o

You can buy the plastic hook sleeve separetly. Less than $20.00. I tried using black shiny electrical tape in a pinch.... which worked. PM me if you need part number
