  1. I had a similar noise on my 2003 C4S and it turned out to be the right carrier bearing on the front differential. The way I isolated it was to put the car on lift, start it up and put it in gear. I then held the right front wheel to stop it from turning; this eliminated the wheel bearing, brakes and CV-joint. I did the same for the left wheel to eliminate that side. The only thing left was the differential and when I tore it apart, sure enough, the carrier bearing was bad on the right side. I replaced the one on the left side as well. Total cost for parts was $98 including seals.

    P.S. Out of interest, I called my local Porsche dealer to cost out the parts but they don't sell the bearings separately.....but they will sell you a new differential for $3,100!

  2. I just replaced the rear struts....found a very light colored and highly viscous oil on the driveway....it was too fine to be engine oil, and it turned out to be a leaking strut (AKA shocks). Loren helped me change out both struts kuz you have to do both if one dies....I was unaware that you need to replace both even though only one is leaking....but you replace both to ensure an even keel. Wait...a keel is in a boat.....well....you know what I mean. Help me out here Loren.

    Speaking of struts... does anybody know If Ohlins makes struts or coil-overs that work on the Turbo? Don't need anything hyper aggresive with remote reservoirs, etc just want something like a road & track set-up.

    Ohlin can def. make you a system that fits... However, it'll be $$$.

    For a dual duty road/track setup, I'll look into Bilstein PSS10, HR C/O, JIC, JRZ, Moton CS (last two will be pretty expensive)

  3. The leak was at the bottom fitting....the DV has two outlets.....one goes out at a right angle into the "F hose", and the other straight down. I hadn't properly secured the bottom fitting and reused the spring clamp rather than buying a new screw hose clamp. It did not alter the idle....but a searching idle is sometimes indicative of sucking air from somewhere.

    Take a can of ether or other flammable spray (carb cleaner) and spray it near the fittings where they attach to the hoses....if the idle picks up, you have found a leak. Don't use too much spray....it is flammable. I use ether that comes in a can and is used for starting engines that are hard to start.

    I tried some carb cleaner and no success....

    The porsche pressure testing cap was $160... so I just fabricated a pressure tester last night so I'll see if I can locate the leak. Hopefully, I won't need to get a smoke machine and locate the leak quickly..

  4. I dont' know exactly what they did when they flashed your car, but I had the same problem when I replaced the Diverter Valves. I had a leak in the hose to one of the valves and it threw a CEL that indicated overboost and dropped down the the boost level, however in my case it was a vacuum leak caused by faulty hose clamps. I'd say that Fastboy is on the right track....the ECU is generating the wrong message and is creating the signal of an overboost condition even though you aren't in overboost. This is affecting your ultimate boost threshold. So much for a theory from a guy with no MIT degree.

    Usually, when you have a problem like this, you go back to the way things were BEFORE you made the change and see if the condition persists. It's too coincidental that you have a flash and now a problem. I hope their support folks are a help to you.

    Chuck, when you had the leak by faulty hose clamps, was it near the diverter valves? Did you experience HIGH idle?

  5. I now have about 2K miles on the SPT's that I chose and there is no buyers remorse. My driving is not great , but I have been driving sports cars for about 40 years and these have not let me down. I was considering desnorkeling my engine because I could not hear it well, but not now because the road noise is much less. Wet traction is okay because who, in their right mind, goes 100 when it is raining ; and pushing corners they have yet to go way sideways. At half the price if the P Zero Rosso's they seem alright and unless their character changes as they age I am quite happy.

    I am on my second set of SPT's on my M Coupe and it is the best tire I have used so far. With price factor involved, it's a no brainer.
