  1. Once I turned on my Garmin Nuvi 680 during a flight from Denver to Chicago. It read 531 MPH! So, I think my Garmin can pace with my Porsche.

That's because you were closer to the satellites!

I don't know why, but my Magellan just wasn't up to the task.

I'm not an engineer but I'd be surprised if 20 or 30 thousand feet made a huge difference to something moving at 17k miles an hour and over 100 miles away. When I was in the army we'd always have the new guy stand on the roof of the truck and hold up the GPS unit to get a better signal. It's the funniest **** thing to watch a guy that honestly thinks 4 feet is going to matter try to peer at the dimly lit screen of a plugger held over his head in a snow storm. If he's willing to do that you know you'll have no problem giving him a roll of duct tape and a trash bag to "take an exhaust sample" from the Hummer.

That's funny! We used to send rookies out for left handed smoke shifters in the Boy Scouts. :P

I was, of course, just kidding about being closer to the satellites...

Anyhow, they are geosynchronous, and don't move relative to points on Earth.

  2. Easy Care. That's the name I was trying to remember. I highly recommend them.

I have the same deal as fdorn.

OK. Here's an update, which may alert you to some issues. EasyCare is now offering me 3 options to fix my transmission.

First, get a refurb, and contribute $6000.00 towards it. Yikes!

Second, send it to a local (LA) transmission place, get it refurbished...and my dealer says there isn't a good one here, or

Third, send it to a good one, no matter where.

My Dealer will have the final say on QC.

I went for the last option. In the fine print, because the warranty company is looking at so much money, it says they can put a refurbished tranny in, and not a new one.

Though you might want to be alerted to this stuff.

  3. Actually I was wondering the same thing. I found a few in a search but have no idea if they are legit or bad companies. Most companys wont even warranty Porsches and some will not insure 911s.

I found these which say they will. No idea if they are for real tho. Hoping someone else had purchased an extended warranty that used it. All this talk about engine failures got me a little worried and I rather be insured.

I just got off the phone with my Porsche service place (Auto Gallery in Woodland Hills, CA.) I bought my car used and got an extended warranty through them. I can't recall the company, because the paperwork is in the car, at their place. It'ss a 4 year/till 70,000 miles one, and I think it was around 2700.00. It covers everything on my 2002 Carrera Cab.

I was just notified that the car needs a new tranny, RMS and some other things that brings the bill to $15K. It's gonna cost me $100.00.

I would say that it was worth it.

  4. What color? (so I give you the correct part number)

The car is Lapis Blue with a dark blue top. The discs are dark blue.

    Thanks Lorem!

I meant the trim color - so they match - do you know the color name?

    Your choices are:

    Black - 996.555.457.00.A10

    Graphite Grey - 996.555.457.00.C50

    Metropole Blue - 996.555.457.00.G10

    Space Grey - 996.555.457.00.B50

Then it would be Metropole Blue.

    Thank you, Loren!

  5. This is so small, but just bugs me. This small round plastic cover goes over the hole where the hard top wrench tightens onto the rear deck. Covers the whole when the top is off. One of mine simply flew off.

    Thought I'd ask here....

this should be the cheapest thing ever to go wrong with my little beauty!

    Thanks!

    Larold

  6. I bought a 2002 996 on Ebay. Car is beautiful BUT*** There is one thing I didn't know. When I had my car shipped, they tied belts around the steering arms. THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO TOW A PORSCHE ONTO A SHIPPING TRUCK. They have to use the large eyelet thing stuck into the bumpers, otherwise the arms will be bent.

    Learn from my mistakes here.

Best of luck. It's the best car I've ever had, and that includes many BMW's, a Ferrari, and a '66 Vette.
