  1. Thanks to all for posting the OBC Hack information and to Loren for directing me to the links. I was reviewing the comprehensive D2 Performance instuctions before starting the little project and noticed there are no instructions for the wiring of the harness itself (the D2 step-by-step mentions wiring instructions, but there are none there, nor a link). Even worse, everyone refers to a 5 wire harness. Suncoast sent me all the necessary parts as a kit, and included three long yellow wires for a harness, and the little black six position clip. Six positions, three wires and everyone talking about five wires? So I'm at a loss for the wiring.

I don't want to pull the wheel and all the ancillary parts without a wiring harness ready to go (can't do without driving my Boxster for a week, especially with sunny and 70 projected on Monday!). Does anyone have detailed information on the wiring harness configuration. I see a list of wiring points for a 2000, but I have a 2002, and Suncoast who have sent me only three wires is usually on target with their parts advice. Perhaps my 2002 only needs three wires? Plus which of the six positions on the clip might be the right ones?

Any advice on this would be most appreciated!

    Mike - 2seatcollector

You need five wires. Three of one kind and two of another. The yellow VW wires terminate in a special male connector.

You should have three VW wires exactly the same (part # 000-979-009). You cut two of these in half (you now have 4 wires) and install them into the plug-in connector (part # 999-650-056-40) in slots 2,3,4 &5. The cut ends of these wires will be spliced into other wires later. You take the thitrd wire (uncut) and place one end into connector slot #1. You cut the free end of this wire close to the end and crimp on a 6mm eyelet to the end. This eyelet gets connected to ground.

You should also have two other VW wires (part # 000-979-010). You cut these in half. You now have 4 wires. Connect the cut end of these wires to the wires above that occupy slots 2,3,,4 & 5 of the plug-in connector. Label these. The plug-in connectors snaps into the 4th stalk on the steering wheel column. The ground gets place behind a ground screw.

In 2001 and up Boxsters the wires connect to the Grey Instrument Cluster connector in the following order.

#2 to pin #23 on grey cluster
#3 to pin #22 on grey cluster
#4 to pin # 21 on grey cluster
#5 to pin #24 on grey cluster

    Hope this helps!
  2. Hey guys, my car came missing the microphone cover to the left of the gauges in the gauge cluster. It's a 2001 Boxster S. You can see the piece I'm talking about in this pic (not my car, just for illustration)

Does anybody know the part number, if it's even sold separately? Thanks!

    01f963ece664f4e6b67094d55dce216d.jpg

    The part number is 996-552-625-01

not sure of the color you need. Check with Jeff at Sunset Porsche.

  3. How did it go - any tips or tricks?

Before installing the Italian airhorn, I had previously installed the tradition horns available from Pep Boys. They were very similar to "Tool Pants" posts. The Italian Horns were compact and even after installing a third radiator in my 98 (non-S) they fit easily above the radiator.

  4. Fortunately I haven't had time to touch the car so I can still check the relay. Thanks for the input smile.gif

Would a lack of the relay cause the intermittent setting to not function?

Also, is there anything else the cruise control issue could be apart from the stalk? The cruise control won't turn on i.e. the green light on the dash won't light up, nothing.

I recently installed an intermittent wiper relay and have an extra regular relay that worked perfectly when removed. Hollar if you are interested.

  5. Hi, I am looking for the original connectors for the CDR220 radio.

I just bought a 2002 911 but the owner upgraded the radio and gave me the original one. The only thing that causes a problem is that he cut off the original connectors for the wiring, and I cannot find this online anywhere.

Does anyone know where I could get that? ( The two 8 pins connectors and the 20 pin connector) I just need long enough wires in the back to hook them up with what is there.

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi SImon,

I have a 8 pin "A" connector. PM me with contact info.

  6. Hi

New to the forum. Can anyone help. The ABS warning light and batery charging light on my 99 2.5 boxster has been on for sometime.CEL light also came on a while ago but went off.No furthur probs.Any one experience this or know of a reason? Appreciate any help

The fact that your CEL light went off is a good thing. Check the CEL light on start-up. Turn your key and see if the CEL illuminates before you crank your engine and then after start-up the light goes out. That way you know the CEL bulb is not at fault.

  7. Hi,

Taking delivery of 99 Boxster 72K miles tonight

Any advice on being new owner ? What to look for at 72K ? Any advice on 90K service?

    Thanks a bunch,

Pleasure is all mine joining the org !

    Welcome to Renntech!

At the top of this page under DIY Menu you can get access to 986 maintenance schedules for your 99 Boxster. I would recommend becoming a "Contributing Member" to have full access to this site. I would also purchase the Bentley Porsche Boxster Service Manual (<$100) and if you do a lot of your own work the Durametric OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) Scanner and Software. I've saved the cost of these tools and many others a 100 times over by doing my own work. Welcome again!

  8. Hi Bruce,

I had the Alarm Code 33 as well. My alarm would go off at all times of the day and night. The Fault Code 33 can always be read by the Durametric Tool. It shows if the fault is present and also is a counter as shown in the freguency counter number immediately following.

I replaced the infared interior sensor (located by the center top interior light/switch) from Sunset Porsche and all is well. Very easy to replace and took less than 30 minutes. If you take off your visors, be careful in removing and re-installing (don't overtighten) the two torx screws on outer sides, as once stripped, you will need to replace the receiving nut with new nut rivets with a pop rivet tool. Besides the visors the screws also provide support for your soft/hard top.

  9. Apologies, I've searched, but haven't got very far.

I'm looking to extend the speaker cables for the factory 4-channel amp to the floor area and am trying to find a diagram outlining what all the colour codes are on the two plugs going into the amp. Any help appreciated.

    It's non-Bose, non-fibre optic.

Here is a link to a thread with some photos that may be of some help. Press HERE for thread!

Note: On the Boxster M490 Hi-Fi Sound Option, any rear speakers plug into the radio HU

  10. I have a 2003 Boxster with cruise control and would like to add the fourth stock and turn on the OBC. I am also thinking the Durametric tool would be a good investment. I sent the Durametric folks a note asking about turning on the OBC and they say with version 6 beta test release, they offer the ability to turn on the OBC. They also said successful activation requires the OBC supporting hardware. If your car is ready for the OBC, it is likely the Durametric Enthusiast or Professional kit, using version 6, can turn it on. I asked about the supporting hardware and the answer was it is the "stalk and potentially other components."

Is there anything else required, besides the stalk and associated parts from from Jeff at Sunset, time, patience and rentech to get the OBC working on my 2003 Boxster?

Here is a list of the parts needed and the price I paid. All available from Jeff at Sunset Porsche.

    1) 996-613-219-10 EWC 4 coulmn switch - $166.29

    2) 999-650-513-40 Plug Socket (for wiring harness) - $2.86

    3) 000-979-009 VW Wiring Set (5 of them) - $13.05

    4) 993-552-573-01-01C Steering Wheel Switch Cover (additional opening for 4th stalk on Left hand side) - $6.06

The Durametric Enthusiast serves 3 vehicles while the Professional kit serves as many cars as you want.

  11. Thanks for the input! I did NOT spray anything on the electrical connector ends, just snapped them in place (boy is that a chore on the rear two, any easy way to get to them?) But when you say reconnecting them do you do it with the key on or off? I'm assuming you mean off? Just disconnect the snap part an reconnect it? The codes I got AFTER I put them in were: P1121~heating of pre cat cyl 4~6, P0160~ post cat 02 sensor cyl 4~6, P1115~pre cat 02 sensor heating cyl 1~3, P1119~pre cat 02 sensor cyl 4~6, P1117~pre cat 02 sensor cyl 1~3

I left the key out of the ignition (don't think it matters) and just connect and re-connect each connection a couple of times. Reset the codes and see what happens. If you want to become a "Contributing Member", you can also check the TSB's (Service Bulletins) under the DIY Menu above and check 986 Current TSB's Bulletin # 2469 - Oxygen Sensor Connections.

    Good luck!

  13. Are you going to leave your front license plate off now as it looks like it restricts air flow?

I haven't decided yet as to re-install the front plate or not. It is illegal in the State of Washington not to have one. Some keep their front plate in the passenger footwell and supposedly move it to the dash/windshield should they get stopped. I'm not sure how that is going to work?

  14. Just curious - I was cleaning up around the battery compartment and was curious if anyone knows what the purpose of the large cap is/was used for? It's on the passenger side of the car. Also, while looking around I noticed a cut out in the driver's side wheel well not plugged. Are these "normal"?? See pics... TKS!!

Large caps can be found throughout the vehicle. If you remove the trunk liners in front and back you will find several more. I am not sure what the hole in the wheel liner is for. Did the PO drill it?

PO??? Port of Origin, Entry??? Anyhow, I don't know. Have only had dealers do reg. mtnc and a little warranty work. 1 non dealer tire change and brake flush.

    Sorry PO = previous owner
