  1. My 2001 just purchased came with one (driver side) stored in the front trunk.

    Can't figure out how to install it.

  2. If you have a Fault Code 21, it is an ignition circuit driver problem on the clock spring under the steering wheel airbag. If you have a fault code of 45,46 or 48 or 49 you have a seat belt wiring harness problem.

    The later codes can be found in a Porsche Technical Service Bulletin #6924.

    The TSB involves replacing 2 or 4 pins depending on which seat. The old wires contain more tin in the fittings and the tin eventually causes connectivety problems and thus the seatbelt light comes on. The new pins contain more gold and less tin. You also replace the buckle and install new ground wiring harnesses.


  3. It's a good idea to buy a set of o rings and a couple of tubes and every time you change your plugs you can replace those that are leaking. Fairly inexpensive, I change my plugs every 30K and have changed 1 tube and 3 sets of o rings over the last 3 spark plug changes. MY98 is currently at 180K.

    Also a good idea to have a boat plug on hand for popping out the tube. I bought mine from a local boat/marine store for less than $5. It literally pops out like your finger from a coke bottle.

  4. It is used for the OEM Phone Option. I was looking for the male mate but I ended up just tapping into the switched power wire #2 (green/black) with a wire tap.

    #1. RED/GREEN - +12V from the battery. It comes from fuse E6, However, check to see if it needs a 7.5a fuse & a second fuse contact installed on the fuse panel to be active.
    #2. GREEN/BLACK - +12V from ignition switch, powered with key in position II & III, and is powered by fuse E8.
    #3. YELLOW/BLACK - telephone mute from black A radio plug pin 3.
    #4. BROWN - ground

    You might be right. I've heard the alarm 'beep' occasionally when I lock it. I've checked the doors/hood/trunk and all look good.

    I've also seen the passenger door window not drop when closing. On the passenger door I've seen it work fine if I just repeat the closing but am sure the exterior handle is completely operating/moving... Perhaps the passenger door latch is sticking?

    You have electrical micro-sensors attached to interior and exterior door handles that drops the window when opening the doors and raises the window when door is closed. Most likely the one on the passenger's side needs to be replaced. When there is a faulty micro-switch the light on the Central Locking Switch on the dash does strange things.

    You can try removing and spraying the connections in the door with electrical cleaner but more times than not they just need to be replaced. Unfortunately they don't sell only the electrical micro-sensor replacement part and you have to buy the entire door locking assembly. The part number (for a 1999 - 996) is 3B1-837-016-P for right door and costs about $190-$200. Check with Sunset Porsche for a possible better price.

  6. You can also use the Durametric Tool to reset the airbag in your case besides a PST2 or PIWIS tester.

    Actually, in this case I believe the Durametric will not work because the problem is not a fault, but a system coding issue, which requires a PST II or PIWIS to correct.

  7. Jarvis/Loren, I have the same issue with the airbag light being on after taking the airbag out to reinforce the rubber bushings on the retaining frame. Are there any forum members in the San Fernando Valley with a PST2 or PIWIS who would be willing to reset the light for me? I called up a local shop and they wanted $100 which seems a bit steep.

  8. I would recommend three gallons or higher. I have a smaller compressor and it can't maintain 90+ PSIG and it takes me 4 or five pump runs in order to get the pressure to 22+ inches of vacuum. I can get there but it takes a while. A larger compressor would be preferred.

    This is a DIY on care and treatment of the cabriolet top. Porsche recommends regular maintenance by simply hosing off the top with high pressure water spray and the use of soap sparingly. But once a year I find it necessary to treat the top with a more thorough cleaner and a water repellant treatment.     I let it dry thoroughly in the sun, then mask it off and use a whole can of the protectant.
