  1. I just hit 100k yesterday.

I bought my car three(3) years ago last July. I am the second owner and purchased it with 47K on the clock.

Other than taking the car in to get my OBC turn on or installing a new set of tires, I have yet had to take it to a dealer or shop for service. I commute each day about 145 miles round trip and it is the absolute best part of my day. Just recently put the hard top on which was hard to do. Expecting first snow of the season tomorrow and I plan to drive it every day rain, snow or shine. Looking forward though to the return of Spring!

  2. Hi! Thats exactly what I thought but I didn't know how big the antenna is. Good to hear.

Any suggestions on procuring a trim plate? I'm not finding anything on the web for sale for a 996 and I'd rather not go through the trouble of making one.

What headunit did you opt for?

    Thanks for your help.

I bought the double din installation kit from Eurospeed Motors http://stores.ebay.com/Euromotorspeed

which came with the trim plate. May want to see if they will sell separately. I went with the Pioneer AVIC D-3 and also bought the bluetooth adapter. Photo of finished installation.

  3. This is exactly what I am thinking of doing! I've got a 2000 Millenium with the stock nav system which I believe is a double DIN to start with and its terrible. I'm looking to do something like what you've done but the trim plate is really the missing piece. I don't see any for sale at Eurospeedmotors but will inquire.

A question: where did you put the nav antenna?

    Thanks!

It can go where the OEM nav antenna is placed which is under the center cover where the dash meets the wind shield. 2nd picture down on the left hand side. Just behind the flasing red light (alarm) when alarm is activated.

  4. When you press the PSM Off button, it should light up. An indicator on the cluster gage that says "PSM Off" should light up as well. When you first put the key in the ignition and turn it one click (but don't start car) does the cluster gage light come on? If not you may have a bad bulb on the cluster gage. Also, you can check the Options Sticker to determine if your car came equipped with PSM. Should be Options code M222.

  5. Welcome to Renntech and thank you for your service to our country and Happy Veterns Day!

I use my 98 Boxster as a daily driver and just today put on my winter tires. Performance tires aren't made for lower temperatures.

+1 for a Double Din navigation system. I went with the Pioneer AVIC D-3 and I used the eBay kit. I purchased it from Crutchfields.

    Be careful down range!

  6. I took out my headlights to get them wetsanded, polished, and clear coated at my local body shop so they look new again. Cleaned them up with a rag first, and realized I had to put them back into the car in order to take off the chrome headlight washer. In the process, I noticed that the bottom of the passenger side lamp assembly was cracked pretty good. Isn't this supposed to be sealed against the air? I mean, a little moisture gets in there and it could get pretty ugly, right?

Do you think I could just get these polished and then use a little epoxy to seal the bottom up tight? The inside of the lamp seems clear (although it's hard to know with the outside being a little dull and yellow). The lamps and washers function fine when I put them back into the car. I certainly hope I have an alternative, as a new assembly is $2300!!! If I could just buy the black bottom piece, I'd gladly do that.

See the picture where I've circled in yellow the cracks.

    Thoughts?

Interesting, you have to wonder what caused the cracks. They come in a complete unit and you can't buy individual parts. The light units aren't airtight. You actually have an air tube that goes from the front bumber to the back of each light plug. Keeps the units from fogging up. I would seal then up the best you can and see what happens. YOu can always replace them later.

  7. I had a similar problem. I took it to the dealer (Roger Jobs in Bellingham) and I was told there are 22 different key numbers. They kept trying each one until they found the right one, then they had to special order it. It took less than a week and cost me $24 plus shipping.

  8. I have done the CD Changer for a CDR 220 radio. I have photos for cabling information to the back of head unit if needed. What cables, brackets, etc came with your purchase?

Thats exactly what i need to know, I was trying to get ahead of myself because i don't receive this unit until the 8th of this month, so i don't know what exactly i am going to get but the unit is supposedly in original package, unopened. Can I get back to you when i receive it? I'll photograph what i receive and get together with you on installation, perfect !

Sure PM me when ready. We'll post progress for future use.

  9. I think the mesh wind blockers located between the roll bars actually do reduce the wind and noise inside the cabin. To prevent an easy theft or to keep them from blowing out, I would suggest using cinch ties to keep them in place. I used white in the photo to make them visible. When the ties are the same color as the mesh or rollbar and the extra tail cut off, you can't see them.
