  1. Check and see if the oil is coming from where the tranny bell housing meets the engine. Did you bottom out and damage the lower oil pan cover? One could only hope?

    1999 Boxster, 105K miles.

After doing a little more reading on a problem I posted about yesterday, I am thinking the amount of oil coming out of the car is consistent with an IMS failure. So, once this happens, is the engine always toast? Am I for certain looking at a new engine or complete rebuild?

Is there any other problem that could cause massive amounts of oil to be coming out of the car?

  2. I have an opportunity to purchase some clear headlights. What would a decent set of clear headlights be worth? They are clear halogens with no amber lenses. I thought I would upgrade the set with a CQLight HID H7 Conversion Kit.

    Has anybody else done this?

  3. Ok, so not my issue is with the stereo.

I just bought a JVC KD AVX77 single din wide screen touchscreen.

I removed the original with the becker keys.

I then removed the amp from the hood (4x40 Haes)

Using the crutchfield wire harness I wired the new head unit. (crutchfield said to be sure and switch the yellow and red wires so i did)

I then ran speaker wire from the new head unit to the old speaker wire harness in the hood and connected the wires correspondingly.

When I turn the key one turn to the right (so the engine does not start but the electrical comes on) the stereo plays.

If I turn it once more the stereo turns off?

If I turn the key all the way (as if I was going to start the car) the stereo works as long as I hold the key in this position. As soon I release the key the stereo turns off.

I tried switching the wires back (going against what crutchfield suggested) but it didnt fix the problem, in fact it didnt seem to change anything.

Has anyone had this problem or know of a solution??

    Thanks

    -Ben

I added the Pioneer AVIC D-3 Double Din unit and kept the 4x40 AMP. I would check back with Crutchfields and recheck wiring schematic. Have you had any issues with your ignition switch prior to your HU upgrade?

  4. I called my local Porsche dealer to ask them how much they would charge to install one of these on my 2006 Boxster, and they said around $250. Following these directions I did it myself in around 20 minutes. Great instructions and thanks for all of the photos, as it really clarified what needed to be done. Unbelievable that the dealer charges this much for such a simple project. And all of the holes were indeed pre-drilled on my 987.

    Way to go Jim!

    Welcome to Renntech! :welcome:

  5. I currently have 17" stock factory rims on my 98 Boxster. The rims have mounted:

    fronts - 205/50 - 17

    rears - 255/40 - 17

I want to purchase some additional rims with winter tires. Will 17" rims (imported from Italy) from a 2005 Boxster 987-1 fit? The rims have mounted:

    fronts - 205/55R - 17 tires

    rears - 235/50R - 17 tires

    Thanks in advance?

  6. When you move your AC. Sunset has the trim piece:

The part number for the trim piece for the lowest DIN is:

    996-552-339-00-01C

    Item: A\C Panel

Price was $5.23 to Washington State plus shipping. Outside Oregon and Washington there is a %15 mark up from Sunset Porsche in Oregon.
