Hey Folks,
Thanks for helping me on my issues. I went to Advanced and they read my faults. It was P1124 and P1126. He went ahead and erased the codes, so I guess I will wait to see if they come on again. Can you all tell me what those mean. I took my air filter back out again and made sure I re-installed, being more careful. I also checked all fluids and noticed that my coolant was low and topped that off. I opened and closed my gas cap, checked oil level again as well as hydraulic fluid level and everything seems fine. So let me know what you all think I should check as I wait and see if it comes back on.
Thanks in advance,
C.

Thanks for your answer. I re-plugged it once after the new filter was installed. I checked it after the light came on but it is still on. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello,
1999 Carrera 2 tiptronic.
I was wondering if I was was supposed to reset something or what I might have done to get my check engine light on. I changed the oil, brake pads, air filter and within 100 miles, my car check engine light came on. Does anyone know why that might be so. When changing the air filter, I did unplug a sensor on the body of the air filter box. Any suggestions would be helpful.
Lastly my hydrolic fluid resevoir seems low but I don't know what the factory calls for. Could someone tell me or point me in the direction to find out?
Thanks

Search here works just like on Google. You can tell it give you only topics with specific words. For this question I searched for +stripped +drain +plug
So it only found topic with all three of those words.
Thanks for that help. I tried 4 different stores to get a screw extractor and found it at the last one. I stripped out the drain plug so bad, the extractor would not fit. So I resorted to using my dremmel (as described in one of the posts) and was able to make a large screw driver fit a cut I made. All in all it took me 3 hours. I finished my last triathlon faster than that! I really needed that information on screw extraction so huge thanks.
If anyone would like to see how I took the roof transport system brackets, had them modified to accept a Yakima rack system, just let me know.

Hello all,
I saw an article on how to remove an over torqued oil drain plug, does anyone know how to find it or have advice on it's removal?
C.
How to remove stripped drain plug?
Thanks,
I don't know what is more frustrating not removing the drain plug or not being able to search for the article on how to remove it.

Got a quick question,
Is the oil filter for a 3.4 and a 3.6 the same? I am going to do the oil change on my 3.4 and 3.6 and got the same filter from Suncoast.
C.
Yes.
Thx

Hello all,
Do you folks know where I can get the instructions on how to install the RTS?

I decided to mod the current 3.4 mufflers and they sound fantastic. Excellent sound when on the throttle and no droning. Sounds just as good as my MY95. Cost for the tubing from Classic Tube $31.72 and the labor for welding $60.
I went with the MK1 mod on the 3.4 mufflers instead of after market exhaust not only because of the price but I heard people who switched back to stock or the MK1 mod because of droning. If I suffer an internal failure then I guess I have to find a solution. As of now I have spent basically nothing for a great sound.
Thanks for all the support in helping me do this modification.
Also thanks for running a great site as I got the info on how to place my car on jackstands on here as well. Though I did not need to take all the tires off, I had them painted black at the same time as the muffler mod. It was much easier to install the mufflers after they were modified with the wheels off. Lastly I also got the Ft lbs I needed to tighten my wheels up to, 96lbs.
RennTech.org, a great resource for those that care about their Porsche.

The car only has 35k miles. What kind of internal failure did it have?
I had the same mufflers on my 99 3.4 as shown in your picture. If they have a lot of miles on them, I would not modify them. Mine suffered an internal failure and were replaced with GHL's. Try to find a low mile set of 3.6 mufflers in lieu of modifying those, remember they are 10 years old now. -
part numbers are 996 111 132.51 and 996 111 131.51
Thanks for the help
On another topic. Can I make a donation for someone who is not a contributing member and make them a contributing member? Djomlas did some nice photoshop work for me "gratis" and maybe I can pay him back. I think other people are asking him for his services. Maybe he could do it for contributions to the site.
Camores
Get me the part number off of one of the mufflers and I will tell you for sure. -
Sorry to beat this horse to death but could you guys take a look at my 3.6? cans. Most of the 3.6 cans that I see seem a little different from mine. I know I have the tell tale accordian, but where most people are cutting into the can for the outlet bypass tube on the MKII exhuast mod, mine is like a raised nipple. So do I have 3.4 or 3.6 cans? Thanks for the help.
camores
Sorry, I have no record of a contribution from you. Could you please PM me with your PayPal email address, the date of your donation, etc. Thanks for that info. I will asume that they were just switched out to the 3.6 cans and make the appropriate MKII mod.Last question. If I am a contributing member how come it does not show up that I am one?

Maurice,
I fantasize about those BMW 2002's once in a while. My dream would be to justify getting one by making the wife drive it to work on nice days. Then I could borrow it from her when she divorces me from making her switch cars so often.

Maurice,If I paint, I will most definately post pictures to see what people think. Though ultimately the decision rests on my shoulders I like to hear what people think.
Does anyone know if their is some history behind Arena Red?
Maurice, my first Porsche was a 944 Turbo a gift from a fantastic father (he is still that generous today). The 944 was gold and had gold BBS rims with polished lips (a nice deep lip in the back) a sweet combination picked out by my father. This time however I am mostly considering a contrasting color like black, Gun Metal Grey or any other color. I wish their was some history behind Arena Red and those cars had some hideous rim color that I could try for a while or justify. I would like my car to pay homage to Ferdinand and the lineage, if at all possible.
White987S,
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try and hit him up and see if he has the time to do it. Djomlas has rims that he has painted. He has supplied me with some of the inspiration to do my paint job.
Camores:
Nice father!
I still have a set of the basket weave gold BBS rims with a polished lip on my '71 BMW 2002. It's the only car I ever bought new, and I still have it. The car is Agave Green (sort of a not too dark green with a bluish tinge) and the contrast between the green of the car and the gold on the wheels looks excellent.
Don't know anything about the history behind Arena Red, but someone else here probably does.
Let me know if Djomlas does anything with his photoshop, I'd like to see the results. I don't want to bombard him with requests.
Regards, Maurice.

OK,
thanks to Djomlas and his skills at photoshop, I am going with black with an arena red stripe. It looks too nice to pass up. If you look at the picture he is a wizard, as he seemed to have waxed my car and tinted my tail lights. In another picture he actually lowered my car! I was going to show that picture as well but I am angry he left the bags of sand in my car.

I have an arena red MY99 996 and I was thinking of repainting my rims as there are a couple of areas of flaking. I was going to repaint in the original color but I not adverse to other colors. I would like to make my ride subtly unique. I am not the type to make the sharp contrast like the combinations that are available with the GT3 RS. But being that it is painted and I can redo a color job, I would consider it. The Silver and Orange GT3 RS is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.
So let me know your imput. Rigth now I am leaning on a Gun metal color and having the interior and the back of my sport seats done in Gun metal as well.

Thanks for all the answers. I had assumed that I had a 3.4 till I went under the car to do the MK1 mod to the mufflers. I had in hand the SS tubing for the MK1 Mod. When I saw the accodian piece I was caught by suprise. I hear the MK2 mod sounds better so I will be doing that mod instead.
How can you tell if you have a 3.4 or a 3.6 by visual inspection? I bought my MY99 with 35,000 miles, what if, the previous owner had a catastrophic engine failure and the engine was switched out with the 3.6? I just did and oil change and filled with Mobil 1 but used only 8.25 qts as the dip stick was telling me that was enough. Does any one know how to visually inspect for a 3.6?
Thanks

I was just under my car to get ready to do the mod exhaust called MK1. This is the mod you do on a 3.4L. When I looked at my muffler it has the accordian (flex) pipe that is associated with the 3.6L. I assumed that because I have a MY99 that my car would have the 3.4L mufflers. Do I have a 3.6L or a 3.4L? Could anyone tell me.
Thanks

thanks. I am going to test it on the other side. If it is broke guess I call Suncoast.
-
Thanks for the advice on the hazards. My right one flashes just not the left. Also with the headlights on the side market lights work on both sides. I have changed the bulb for the left flasher but it is still not flashing. I suspect it is getting power but the housing around the bulb is defective. This housing comes off (not sure how) as it has wired clamps. What are your thoughts?

My turn signal is out on my 95 993 ( the rear left). Is the turn signal and the small outer bulb on a different fuse? The break light is working, just not the turn signal lights.
Thanks Chris

Hey all,
I was looking to replace the roof rails on my car as well as the 4 removable pads used when you place a roof rack on the car. Could someone assist me with these parts and where I could buy them.
Thanks in advance.
