  1. It's easy to replace the filter, but it does take some time to gain access. You are correct, you have to partially open the top to the "service position". This is explained in your owner's manual or you can download the owner's manual in electronic format from this website. You then remove the carpet and the aluminum cover to the engine compartment. The filter element is in a black plastic casing on the driver's side, if I remember, you have to undo a screw to get it out. I believe this has been covered on Caymanclub.net with photos - click on "articles" then click on "service items" on that website. The photos depict a Cayman, but the engine compartment is the same of course.

  2. Oops. I finally did it. Backed into a curb and scraped the paint off the bottom side of my rear bumper. The bumper itself is OK, but it needs repainting. I do not think it can be touched up.

    Does anyone know of agoodbody/paint shop in Kentucky?

  3. The windstop makes a huge diffference in comfort and stereo sound quality. Drive a car with it on and off, and see the difference for yourself.

    For me, the 6 speed seems smoother, but to be honest, the gear ratios are not that different if you compare a 5-speed to a 6-speed. Again, try both, at a dealer, and see which you prefer.

  4. I had an accident in a Toyota years ago. Carfax says the car was damaged so badly it was not driveable , which simply was not true. They were wrong. I still own that car, and have put 100,000 trouble free miles on it since the collision. I am sure they both minimise and exagerate the extent of damage at times. I am also sure there must be collisions not documented on Carfax. Again, like any type of report, it depends upon the accuracy of the information and how is is entered into the system. I think it is only piece of information, to be used together with a pre-purchase inspection, to determine if a car is right for you.

  5. Now wait a minute, you say you bought it "new" but it was tracked in the first 550 miles. This engine was not even properly broken in yet! What were they thinking? Would anyone know if improper break in would play a role in this terrible engine breakdown? I think the owner's manual says to break in, without exceeding 4200 RPM, for the first 2000 miles.

  6. I put Akebono ProAct Ultra Premium Ceramic Pads on my wife's ML 320, although not the same vehicle as the Cayenne.

    I find them to have the same European brake feel, definitely much less dust, no noise at all, and they are very rotor friendly and there is little pad wear.

    Stopping distance is excellent.

    They were around $100, and are American made. You may wish to consider these pads.

  7. I agree with the last respondent. Wash car twice, then clean with a clay bar with an appropriate detailing/lubricating solution. This alone may dramatically improve your paint.

    I have done this, and then proceeded to use an orbital polisher using Menzerna Final Polish II, followed by Menzerna Finising Glaze. Then apply the best wax you can afford. This gave fantastic results to my wife's black car, which she is not so gentle with... I am sure there are other good brand name polishes and glazes like Zaino.

    Your car is silver, so I think it is a more "forgiving" color.

    Let us know how it works out, and maybe post some before and after photos.

    Thanks for your advice. I will not be at this weekend's event, I have to work. But hopefully in July.

    You mentioned using all-seasons. This is something I am interested in, particularly because of our climate. I don't have the storage space for a set of winter tires, besides, we don't get much snow, but I would loive to drive my Boxster more on cold days. How are your all-seasons for overall traction? What kind are they?

  9. I plan to do some DE events at Putnam Park in Indiana , and I am wondering what I need to do to get my vehicle ready. I know I need to flush brake fluid, and pass a technical inspection, need a Snell helmet etc.

    My main question is, do I need different brake pads or tires for these events? I do not plan to have a whole lot of track time, but I do want to be safe. What else is wise to do in preparation?

  10. You should call Canada Customs or go on their web page-- they will tell you what you need to do to import a car. The temporaty tags the dealer will give you will sufice for transport, and usually your car insurance at home covers a new purchase for a few days - your insurance agent can give you more details.

    I previously imported 2 cars to the US, one was easy, the other a PITA, but again, customs knows what the requirements are.

    As far as long drives, this car is a blast -- you will enjoy it!!

  11. The Bilstein HD shocks are actually designed for SUV's and trucks - this is what I put on my wife's ML320 SUV recently. My only concern is that the Bilstein bushings appear a bit flimsy compared to the OEM bushings. You may want to install them with the original bushings. I do not think they would be firm enough for your needs. The SP shocks are for sports cars according to Bilstein.
