  1. I would be interested to get some feed back on rear main seal leakage in GT3s. I have a 2007 that has had the RMS changed twice and it is sitting at the dealership now after again noticing a daily oil drip. Service technicians are apparently awaiting communication from Porsche in Germany as to what should be done. I have gotten a preliminary message that this may be "normal." I have a lot of trouble buying this. I have had five Porsche before this including an 86 930 and a 92 968 among others, and have never had a drop of oil on my garage floor. If I am told that I have to keep cleaning oil off my floor after buying a $120,000 car there are going to be some heated discussions and legal advice. How many of you GT3 owners out there are having RMS oil seepage or leakage?

    I have about 13,000 miles, original owner, 2007 GT3. My rear main

    seal was just replaced, under warranty days before it expired before a drop of oil hit the floor. I think Porsche should

    warranty this part to original owners for a decade as long as they experience

    the problem.

    I have taken superb care of my car, living with 911 oddities but you cannot

    call seal problems of any kind normal, especially when a 911 is so supposed to be

    the most refined car ever made. Refinement includes reliability.

    The dealer service was excellent though.

  2. I'm experiencing an annoying creaking sound from the steering wheel column on my '07 997 GT3.

    Bought it 2nd hand, Porsche Approved in Germany at 35.000 kms. Between April and now it's been in the dealership for repair twice now - first they replaced the front stabiliser silent blocks, sound remained (came back after a while), then a second time, they replaced some wear parts of the front axle as well as the anti-vibration pads from the front brakes ... again, after a few miles, sound came back like before. The sound comes while driving but also at standstill when turning the steering- wheel.

    Car runs perfectly well but that noise is just not OK in such a car. I don't want to bring it endlessly into the dealership either.

    Any useful hint would be welcome.:notworthy:

  3. I hope nobody went to any extremes expense wise for this, but you will never believe

    the cause, it is sand in the front spring mounts.

    Jack the car up, take the wheel off, put your hand in there and like me you will

    mostly likely find some sand. Clean it up, blow it our with water and air.

    I took it to a dealer, and did not hear it , you know the usual case

    where a problem doesnt happen when you go to demonstrate it .

    BUT , it is most likely what I say, the bearings on my car ARE fine!

    all of them!

    After cleaning it out, I did Monticello motor club track no problem!!!

    I think the sand and crap gets caught up there.

  4. Sorry for taking so long to get back.

    Brought the car back to dealer after experiencing the problem.

    Had high miles on sport cup fronts as I have not tracked car yet.

    I put new front tires at dealers suggestion.

    Service manager thought maybe belts in tires?

    Doubted it myself, but , service manager and I went for

    ride and of course, we did not hear the grinding noise,

    of course I did all the way to dealer!

    Now new tires, and guess what, grinding noise had ZERO change.

    I think that Craig might be right., it could be gravel.

    Is this warranty? I don't really want to take my PCCB rotors off myself.

  5. Hi, I have an '07 GT3 with PCCB, experienced the sound with last tires, dealer said it might be tires,

    got new tires, no big deal, but noise is still there,

    it is a grinding noise, and I thought wheel bearings.

    Could it be same noise you experienced?

    Sounds a little like grinding marbles/wheel bearings.

    Dealer said at 7,500 miles nothing wrong with wheel bearings.

    I could not duplicate noise.

    Car now has about 10,300 miles on it.

  6. if bearings wouldn't the noise stick around? there presently is no vibration on front end.

    Never tracked the car. Never hit a curb.

    I did get new rears tires, same style brand as car came with, but didn't need front tires.

    I brought it to dealers for sure they would hear it, but when service tech

    and I went for ride I didn't hear it either!

    It has been there and not for several hundred miles.

    I do have 2 yrs left on warranty. Thanks.

    What is the Porsche recommended tire pressure for 06-07 GT3? I asked the dealer and they said 36/44. That seems a bit too high. Try to get a reference for MSC tires when used on street. My car is a 05 C2S.

    29/30 factory for 07 GT3.

    The sticker on the driver's door of my April production 997 GT3 says F 29 psi R 33psi. The cars seems to handle fine and the tire wear with 2200mi is even with the rears showing more wear in the inside.

    Notice that sticker, I did, I wouldn't be surprised if Porsche has to replace them, send us all new ones,

    It says, "back seat capacity" 2.

    I wonder where that sticker came from when the GT3 owners manual has a

    different tire pressure than the door jam.

    I think the owners manual tire press. is correct.

    The door jam sticker appears to be from another model with back seats.

    DO NOT put more pressure into the car than owners manual says for normal

    street driving, the active suspension was designed for specific tire pressure.

  8. I just changed my oil at ~1300 miles. I was surprised that my GT3 was perhaps one of the easier oil changes I have performed.

    Thats great to hear, I like to do my own maintenance also, what grade oil did you use.

    Wal Mart sells Mobil 1 in 4qt. Jugs.

    Off topic, whats the part # for the GT3 OEM front spoiler.
