  1. Sorry for the slow feedback. I do not use the car that often, but I keep it plug to a battery tender. As clarification I replaced two switches from my old 996, not this car. Second I do not have a second key, so it makes it hard to try the trobleshooting sugestions. What I did was to change the battery on the key that I have, and so far it has not happened again. Will keep on testing and will keep updating the tread.

  2. My 06 C2S Cabrio 6 speed with 50,000 miles has the following problem:

    At random and with out any pattern when I put the key in the ignition nothing happens.

    I mean no instument cluster, no noise from the steering wheel lock, nothing. Turn it left or right and nothing,

    keep the clutch down and pump it and it makes no difference.

    I play with the key, in and out and turn it to the left/right and in one of those trials you hear

    the click sound of the steering wheel lock and the instrument cluster lights up. Then I can start the car.

    I am a previous 996 owner and had to replace the ignition switch on my 996 twice, it is very

    similar to what is happening now, but as I understand the switch is completely different.

    From my durametric I get no codes.I tried electrical contact cleaner inside the switch and got under the dash

    to verify the clutch switch adjustment and it is fine.

    Any suggestions?

  3. Ok guys I changed the oil with Mobil1 0w40 and the car is working fine now. On the last

    Oil change my shop was out of 0w40 and they put 20w50 and it worked fine for 6 months

    But after that the oil pump was starting to have problems pumping it in the mornings. Note

    That one of the reasons I was not concern at the time was that I live in PR and the temperature

    Never goes below 75 degress (F) during the winter and in the summer it gets in the 100 degrees

    (F). But I guess that at 50,000 miles on these engines they still have like new internal tolerances.

  4. My 06 C2S with 50,000 miles developed the following problem recently.

    After a night on the garage I put the key on the Acc to check

    The oil level, and oil pressure goes up to 2, then I start the car

    And the oil pressure drops and a oil pressure warning comes up on the screen

    And the check engine light turns on. After this I turn the car off and I put the key

    On the acc again, then I get the same oil presure, but this time when I turn the car on

    The pressure goes up to 5psi and stays there until the car warms up. After that the car

    Will start ok until it cools off again. I have a durometric scanner and it shows no faults in memory.

    After this cold startup ritual the car works fine and shows no problem sign.

    Tomorrow I will clean the MAF and change the oil(is not due, But worth the try). Any additional ideas or recomendations

  5. I got my original Porsche 997 C2 Ipod adapter from Suncoast several months ago. I decided since the units needs to be programed by the dealer

    when installed anyway to ask my local (and only dealer) for a quote to install and program the unit. The customer advisor informed me that as a

    dealer policy they will not install any part not purchased from them, also they will not program the unit if I install it. Is this a right the dealers have?

    To refuse service or install original parts on a vehicle. I tried to call customer service at 1-800-PORSCHE but only covers continental US. My car is

    a 997 C2.

  6. I am a car wash owner and have owned several Porsches, MB, BMW, ect.. thru the years.

    My current car is a Black Carrera S Cabriolet. All my cars go thru my tunnel at least twice a week.

    Not all automatic car wash systems are the same, as a matter of fact I can almost assure you that near your area there

    will not be two identical Car Wash tunnels.

    I will recommend you survey the tunnels in your area and look for one that has the following combinations:

    1. No roll overs (the ones that move back-and forward around your car)

    2. Pressure prep-guns (like the ones on the self-service bays) on the entrance used by employees.

    No automatic high pressure inside the tunnel. Tell them to spray the convertible top from far away, not close.

    The rest of the car is ok.

    3. Conveyor system with a full tunnel length Rim protection cover. A plastic cover to protect wheels from rubbing

    against conveyor wall.

    4. No top brush, only curtains on to wash the top.

    5. All curtains and brushes from cloth or foam (no bristle hairs).

    6. Look for tunnel with plenty of car wash soap and water along the wash.

    Once you locate a tunnel like this, wash your car every week and have it waxed every 3-4 months.

    maybe the comments at the discussion are aimed towards what we had to do taking the factory

    997 fenders and parts and having to modify the parts to fit the Boxster and 996

    that was a lot of work but once we were done we took molds and now the parts

    will go right on,

    Let me talk to my installer and see if they can give me a rough time to install

  8. If the labor for the fitting is not an issue for me (part of the fun of the project). You guys

    do not see any mayor issues for having fiberglass fenders? The car is not a daily driver

    so I can spend all the time I need fitting the pieces in my garage on weekends. I will

    also like to note that the cost of the parts needed for the front facelift (fenders, hood,lights, ect.) is

    about $4,000 US.

  9. I have been looking to do the 996 to 997 facelift on my 996 C2. There are kits available that use factory Headlamps, bumper, signals, ect.

    The only problem I see so far is that the fenders are reproduction fiberglass. All the pictures look great and is a nice alternative when you have

    a Paid for 996 and will like a 997. Any comments or anyone that has done the facelift that can share the experience.
