  1. From recent personal experience the KESSY (Keyless Entry System) needs to be reactivated for your keys at the dealer using the PIWIS. The car needs to accept the RFIDs of the Key FOBs as its own. I went in to have a new FOB programmed and they needed both keys. I was in a hurry when I left and didn't realize that KESSY was no longer working for the old key and not the new key either. I brought it back to the dealer and after monkeying with it for a while they got KESSY working again with the old key FOB. This is the weird part. The new car won't let me unlock the door with the new key in my pocket (KESSY). I have to manually unlock either with the metal blade or push the unlock on the remote. Once I am in the car the new key is recognized and will allow the ignition to be started with the plastic enter & drive key.. the old key unlocks the door while in my pocket (KESSY) when I touch the door handle. The old key in my pocket allow me to start the car with the plastic key.

Here is an interesting new behavior... When you walk to the back to open the hatch with the new key (no KESSY working) in your hand the doors lock and the alarm is armed automatically after closing the door. You have to push the button on the remote to unlock the car again to lift the lid. The old key opens the lid just by touching it with your hand. Very odd.. Anyone have any ideas? Neither the local dealer nor the dealer that sold me the key (Sunset) seems to know why this is not working... Sunset thinks it might be the KESSY or antenna (antenna makes no sense to me personally since the old key works) and the local thinks its the new key from Sunset... Any ideas? Anyone seen this behavior before? The part numbers are different on the keys..

  3. IMHO - yes.

I would put the one on the left side - near traffic.

I've always thought my horn sounded wimpy. Not in a "not loud enough" way but too high pitched.

If there are two horns in the car is it reasonable to assume there is a low and a high tone horn. If so maybe the low tone is out.

Sure sounds effeminate from my perspective when I use it...

Maybe I need a locomotive airhorn!!!

This is exactly the case. I had this same issue and the 2nd, lower (more manly) tone horn was out. Nice, loud and effective again after an OEM replacement. If it happens again though I think I will go with the airhorn. I would do both. Never use the horn unless you mean it. :)

  4. 1) Find a good Porsche mechanic (maybe a dealer, maybe not.. not can be MUCH cheaper)

    2) Buy the exntended warranty and make sure your mechanic takes it first. If you bank at a credit union, check with them on their pricing. Ask your mechanic that you trust about the warranties available. They know which ones pay the most by their experience.

    3) Pray you never need it.

    4) Make sure you do ALL OF YOUR MAINTENANCE and DOCUMENT IT!!!! If not, warranties will look to get out of anything that can be related to a maintenance item.

    5) Pray some more you never need it. One item can easily eat up what you might pay for one.

    6) Check to see if its transferable because you might want to sell the car and a warranty is a great selling feature.

    7) Sacrifice a chicken and pray some more.

  5. Howdy all;

I picked up an '04 Cayenne S last year. I suffered a blowout coming home and went to put on the spare. Much to my surprise, what looked like a spare tire cover housed what appears to be a spare battery.

And, just to clarify, that fix-a-flat junk doesn't work unless it's a slow leak.

Does anyone know how to fit a spare (collapsible is fine) on the car? I'm out in rural areas fairly often and would hate to get stranded out of cell phone coverage.

    Thanks in advance!

The spare battery is a keeper especially in your rural area. The Main is under the driver seat. So I would strongly consider the external mount.

  6. I forgot to mention that you want to put the decals on while the paint is still a tiny bit sticky/tacky to the touch so it bonds best to the paint/caliper... then they never come off.. neat trick the guy selling th decals told me... Also VHT SP731 paint is what you want to use VHT = Very High Temp brand... rock solid.

My CTT came in red but I did my '96 Camaro with Camaro decals and they look great. In hindsight I would definitely take them off next time though the overspray or taping is a B@%@#... Do it when you go in for a brake job... good to refill and bleed anyway... no biggie..

Lots of people do this. You can buy kits and replacement PORSCHE decals, it looks good in red

Trying to decide if I should paint my S's silver calipers red. All the 2 part epoxy manufactures make it look like you can easily paint them while they are on the car and that the finish will be smooth.

Sounds awfully fishy. I don't mind pulling them from the mounts, but I will draw the line at pulling off the hydraulic lines. So the question for the board:

    1. Is it a cheesy thing to do? Will i bring on the scorn of other Porsche owners?

    2. Has anyone painted them on the car (brush) and had positive results?

    3. How do they look (including the vinyl stickers) after a few months?

    4. Will Porsche cry foul if a caliper goes bad and try to claim the paint effected their operation? (I know - its a guess - but wondering if anyone had a bad experience).

    5. Anyone spray them with an automotive detail gun? are they a real pain to mask off (inner piston boots, etc.)?

    Thanks

  8. The other fellow is correct. There are two sub sizes. I have the one you have and the spare definitely fits around it. If you had the other model you would not even be asking the question as there is absolutely no room around it. The whole complaint was that the smaller didn't make enough bass so they made a bigger one and offer the full-size spare for the hatch door.

I bought a perfectly good spare for my '04 CTT off ebay and now I have the spare and the Bose sub.

I did a search for you on ebay and there is someone (not me :) ) selling a spare... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/18-PORSCHE-...emZ120315181446

Bid $350 or BIN for $395

Its funny about the bass thing becuase on an impulse buy I bought another Bose sub because I didn't think mine had one or it wasn't working. So now I have a spare. I've read that you can tap into the Sub cable and use a line level coverter and gets some power in the back to run a real amp and sub... hrmm... maybe one day...

    - Andrew

It depends on the sub size. there are 2 sizes, my guess is not

Will the optional spare fit over the woofer?

  9. What intake did you get? Did you get the issue fixed? If so, what benefit have you noticed?

    Thanks!

I have a 04 ctt that I just installed an intake on. It's idoling rough right now and am wondering if resetting the computer would help the ecu adapt faster. Any know how long it takes for the ecu to learn new paramators?

Will disconnecting the battery reset the ecu?

any help would be greatly appreciated

    thanks guys

For those of you who aren't members yet, I'd suggest it. Great info is available with a nominal donation. The above link is to the PCM retrofit that includes DVD navigation system for 2004 Cayennes (as well as other 2005 models). I am interested in seeing the price for the whole package including install. If the DVDs are included, don't forget to mention that part since I'll skip that most likely and buy them direct.

Also, I have put in a parts request via Sunset (thanks Loren) and hope it's a part the dealership will install if I buy it from another parts provider. If not, I'm sure I'll be hunting a Floridian down with a PST2 :)

Yes! and it is a one-step DIY... TomTom One 3rd Edition... $119.00

Screw Porsche on this one... this is far better deal, better updates, mapshare community, lowest gas prices updates... Porsche can't touch it..

    Suction cup to windshield..

Here is a Porsche Logo only splash screen....

  11. For what it is worth the Dension with the latest firmware is rock solid and I've been running it for months now. I love it. I have not tried the bluetooth.. the installation in the back where the changer is took me all of 20mins.. no lie... with drinking the beers. :)

Oh, and all I need to do to listen to the CDC is to turn the Dension off like for a visit to the dealer.

    Feel free to ask questions...

    - Andrew

  12. Ok, so how much is the PCM upgrade going to set you back? I'm thinking it might be significantly cheaper and better overall to get access to the AV button/video display mode of the PCM and broadcast from an external GPS like a tomtom or handheld PC. The updates would then be consistent and far cheaper.. If you mounted it right you could surf the web on it too..

    Just my .02,

  13. They made my 2004 Cayenne TT sound awesome. They are lighter than stock, look better, pull smoother and sound great.. not too much... I went to a local authorized Flowmaster dealer with a great reputation here in St. Petersburg, FL and they did a great job.. these photos are after a good week of testing..All those other exhausts are from $1600 to $5000 (Titanium) and I got these installed, out the door for $750+tax. They called flowmaster for their take and I showed him some pictures of the pricier versions. He corrected a twist on my exhaust that was there from the previous owner's poor handling and polished my tips too. The tips are perfectly flush now, no more burns unloading. Sweet!

  14. Hi, I noticed you installed the GW500 in the back, which complicates your wiring if you want to have your ipod at hand..

I've installed mine behind the glove compartment, as described in the install guide on www.maxxcount.de (incl some pictures)

both usb & ipod connection are handy next to the cupholders like this...

    cheers, gunzie

My three cents (adjusted for inflation) is that I have it mounted in the back for a few reasons. The main reason is the ipod is out of sight in a place where a crackhead rumaging won't look. I got one stolen out of my Camaro armrest. I can't imagine having out there in the air with a "steal me" sign on it.. yes, the alarm went off.. he was too fast and the people protecting the car garage were asleep..

The next reason is that the install took 15mins thanks to this guide. I drank two Stella Artois instead which explains the performance gain considering it's a lighter beer.. maybe higher octane.. ;o) It may also explain the weird click.. no, just kidding, running the lastest firmware it works great.. I bought an 80GB off this kid just for the pepper.. filled it up with Radio 1 Essential Mix, Fergie, Digweed, Freeland and the like and I'm good to go.. untz untz untz..

The PCM Gateway interface works like a charm for me so no need to ever touch or see the iPod until I get bored with the 80GB... and need a refresh..

The glovebox, armrest, anywhere in the passenger space is where the criminals look.. I keep that empty like a desert.. no signs of life.. I guess they can get my owners manual and obsole NAV Cds.. darn.. then I'd get a new NAV from the insurance!!!
