Hi - sorry to drag up this old thread, but i've just added rear speakers to my 2004 boxster (986) and have a similar problem (rear speakers not recognised: ie. no fader option)... did you have any luck with this ?

Hi - need some help... i connected the speakers and can hear sound from it. However, i don't see a fader option in my pcm... does that sound strange ? I would have expected to be able to control the front/rear fade now that the rear speakers are connected....
Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

70% complete as of today.... decided ro run the harness through the centre console instead of the door sill... (couldnt get the wiring to pop up in the footwell)
just need to connect it up to the amp tomorrow/tues and i should be up & running....
relatively easy install, but getting the door bins out of the storage box was a real pain !!!

Hi all... been reading some of the audio threads with a lot of interest... I'm about to add the pnp rear speaker kit, but also wanted to improve the bass response from the door speakers.
my car is a MY04 with M490 sound pack...
I recently upgraded the door speakers in my 993 which were factory nokia 5.25" mids, and the JL Audio 6" speakers were a direct replacement, with no cutting/modifying required... just wondering if anyone knows if the same 6" drivers will fit into the boxster's existing door mounts ?
Also, are the custom baffles/rings for the dash still available ? or should i go for the infinity reference model that has been recommended on previous threads ?
any advice much appreciated!
ps. JLA 6" speakers are the components sold as the VR600CSI

Since most becker amplifier uses a speaker level input(poor quality). U'll have to get a RCA conversion adapter to convert to a pre - amp level.
she'll sound so much better,,,
yeah but as i understand it, the becker amp is connected to the head-unit via MOST fibre-optics... so i can't swap the becker for a regular amp (unless there are other amps that take fibre-optic inputs ?)

(Those amps are very susceptible to spiking, so I was extremely careful, hence not disconnecting battery and amp, and always ensuring all was powered down...)
sorry to hassle you again, but i'm going to install my PNP speaker kit over the next 2 days (it just arrived today)... should i leave the battery connected as you did ? i have the Porsche Sound Pack so i think the same becker amp, and want to make sure i don't damage it accidentally...

Question for anyone else - are there any 3rd party amplifiers that can be used instead ? Or does the MOST connection mean you're restricted to the porsche/becker unit ?

Called my local Porsche dealer today, and they said turn-on ignition, leave for 20 seconds, then disconnect battery negative terminal. (Battery can be reconnected without ignition on afterwards).
Hi - did you have any luck getting it to work ? I'm interested in adding the rear speaker kit to my boxster (which also has the PSP upgrade).... Would appreciate any update on how the install goes as i'll be doing the same (hopefully!)
where did you order the kit from ?
btw - ignition must be on when you disconnect the battery - else the alarm will go off and you don't want that happening! i recently changed my battery so had to do the same.

Hi, i have a 2004 boxster (986) which has pcm...
The hardware is 2.0 (ie. CD based system) but i'm just wondering if it is difficult to swap the system for the 2.1 DVD system ?
The actual headunits (screen/button layout) look very similar.....
Anyone have any thoughts or know someone who's tried it ?

The dealer is really out of his mind. The OS discs can be obtained here
as you can see, $2.09 each. A slighty inflated price over there!!!
Hi - do those discs work for UK/European PCM units? I have a PCM2 unit with 2003 disks and wanted to upgrade to something more recent...

Thanks for the help! much appreciated. Assume there aren't any other side effects of changing the coding to coupe? I guess it only affects the Multimedia ?
