  1. Moving on to the fact that compressor needs replacing, what other AC  parts need replacing at the same time? I saw another article stating once the system is opened to the atmosphere, the drier needs to be replaced because the desiccant will no longer remove moisture. Expansion valve due to particulate entrapment. Those extra components don't add too much to the bill but if we go on to the evaporator core we are getting into big bucks. 

    How much is "necessary" to do a reasonable repair?

  2. Squealing noise from engine bay the other day so I checked location and sound came from area of A/C compressor. I switched off AC inside the car and squeal went away and I was able to drive the car. Today I pulled the air cleaner housing to visually check, and I saw black goo (grease ?, very dense) coming from the pulley/clutch wheel (See photo). 

    My questions are:  Is the compressor likely seized and I need to replace entire compressor or is it just the pulley/clutch and that is repaired separately? Are they mated together and only the entire unit can be replaced? Car is a 99 with 98K miles on odometer. AC had been running Ok with no known issue until this.

  3. I was told by my shop that 220 F is about normal so your temp.needle is about right. Powerwashing twin radiators is on my list to do. I was told the cars tend to run hotter in warm temps.but adding a third radiator kit would drop the temps. 10-15 degrees. Would like to know if anyone here has added a third radiator kit and seen those results.

    I don't agree that 220F is normal, unless you are in the dessert. Your temp should be around 185-206. I have a 3rd radiator, and the temp runs about 10F cooler when the car is moving.You may have debris in the radiators, or your H2O pump may be failing. Check to see if your radiator fans turn on around 212F, drop to low speed when temp is around 205F.

    Thanks for info. Water pump was replaced due to failure a few thousand miles ago and radiator fans are operational so I'm going to see how a proper radiator cleaning works out. I'll post results and if no improvement I suppose 3rd radiator would be the next step. Possibly defective thermostat, but I suppose that would throw a code warning.

  5. My 99 C2 calipers are looking really bad. The decal or some coating over the black is getting air underneath and bubbling the same way window tinting does when it starts to fail. I'm looking into either painting or powder coating. What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing one over the other? I also would want to replace the white Porsche lettering. Is this just a decal added after painting? Lastly, any cost estimates on both the options. Thanks.
