  1. Update 2001 transmission work flawlessly with the old 1997 control module. but the tranmission ratio seams a bit different then the old one... I've hit the 30 miles per galon with it... Total cost $3000 with tranny, IMS, RMS, and Air injection valve... not too bad... Special thanks to Loren and RFM
  2. Update My IMS bearing was as new... but transmission not in yet... should be tomorrow... not the same luck with the 1999 boxster S that was on the lift next to my car The car was in for an oil leak... and end up with a LN Engenering bearing upgrade... BTW my tech told me that it was pretty easy to remove the double row bearing with the puller fron LN...
  3. Hello I bought a kit from Eastwood to remove wipers scratches on my boxster, and it work perfectly.... So much that I used it on all my cars to restore windshields to almost original shape. Here is the link... http://www.eastwood.com/glass-polishing-kit-pro.html
  4. Thanks Loren and RFM I will provide these informations to my Technician. I also will keep you informed about the issues of the tiptronic swap... For sure I will change the RMS and IMS at the same time... Best regards
  5. Thanks Loren... Do you mean 986.300.011.20, because I know that this one required a specific control for Boxster S. But now, I think that I have no choice... Today, After a Big Clunk... the Tip turned into safety mode.... So I will put the used A86-05 986.300.011.05 and see if it's compatible. Wish me good luck... and hope to be back on the road without any issues in 2 weeks...
  6. Hi This question is for Lauren.... or somebody that face the same situation.... The transmission in my Boxster 2.5 1997 reach the end of it's life a 160 000km.... start slipping and jumping between gears... So probably clutches and torque converter problem. The transmission was check for oil condition and level, and it's was perfect... the oil was changed twice in the last 5000 km .... So my Porsche technician propose to swap instead of rebuilding with an almost new transmission from a 2001 2.7 boxster, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with my control unit... I got a ZF 5hp19 model A86-00 ( porsche 986 300 911 01 ) with control unit 986 618 225 00 and the part proposed by my Technician is a 5hp19 model A86-05 ( porsche 986 300 011 05 ) , and I think that it need a control unit 986 618 240 00 My question is: Will this transmission work with my control unit, or could it be reprogram for the new tranny ???? Thanks in advance
  7. Hi Loren. Sorry to bring back and old post, but what could be the cause if the knocking occurs when the engine is warm? Could it be only bad gas. Thanks
  8. The transmission specialist could repair it, but the Indy shop will certainly replace it... your choice...
  9. Take your car to a transmission specialist before spending any money in an Indy shop. It could be as simple as a failing pump gasket. BTW a complete rebuit is about $2000. Good luck
  10. Hi Like I said, If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt for under $1000 be any good transmission specialist. The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in VW Passat and AUDI A4. In this link tou will find all the informations about ZF 5hp19 ZF 5HP19 parts Good luck
  11. Hello. Maybe only a clog line in the valve body. Did you tried to raise the ATF oil pressure by selecting drive and applying full brake and rev the engine. You will really feel it if the transmission is slipping or not. BTW Don't push the engine over 3500 rpm because it can damage the torque converter. Good luck
  12. Hi. Looks like a dead torque converter to me... but you should have a P0740 fault code... If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt be any good transmission mechanic. The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in Passat and audi A4. Good luck
  13. Hello. Looking like you have a low ATF fluid, and if you didn't already had a Tiptronic maintenance, I would suggest replacing ATF and filter. Good luck
  14. Hello Loren, Sorry to bring back this old post, but I have a P0430 error code, and following your instructions in this post, I got this reading from my durametric cable. Please take a look a it, and tell me if it's the cats or the lambda probe. Thanks. :renntech:
  15. Hello. It's an easy DIY, and I also suggest that you change the filter ($29) at the same time. For the oil, you can purchase the VW Audi oil G052162A2 ($15) or the Pentosin ATF ($12). The ZF 5HP19 was also used in VW passat Audi A4 and some BMW, here is a link for a DIY ATF change. ZF transmission oil change Information on the ZF 5hp19 On my car I have flushed the system to put AMSOIL full synthetic, it's similar to Esso LT 71141 . Good luck
  16. Hello John. What your looking at it's the end of the AOS system in the oil pan. What you want to change is on page 10-22 and 10-23. Next time, bring me your car... A Porsche should be on the road...
  17. Hello. The sound you have on startup looks like your Starter bendix need to be replace. The starter removal is an easy DIY, and you could have it rebuilt. Good luck.
  18. You're the best... Thanks a lot Loren :renntech:
  19. Hi Loren. My Durametric cable gave me this error code on my tiptronic: moduleType = MotronicDME78 9X6 Tiptronic Selected About to get fault codes moduleType = TiptronicG40 DTC Count = 1 Fault Number:70 Description:P0740 Could you validate that the fault number 70 is related to the torque converter? Thanks again
  20. You're welcome. Keep us posted on your Boxster in its new town... Good luck with your new life in Washington. See ya Fred
  21. Hello John. Keep us posted on this issue For my point of view, I hope it's only a deffective lower AOS tube. It could also cause an oil spot in this area. Good luck Fred
  22. Thanks Loren. I will wait for a week, and if the re-learning process don't solve this issue, I will leave my car to my Porsche mechanics and ask him to run some test with is PST2. Thanks again
  23. Thanks for your help Loren. How long the the re-learn process should take? Do you know if the PC base PST2 can run these test, and what are these test? Could I do something with my Durametric cable because for now I have no fault? Thanks
  24. This question is for Loren. (or someone with knowledge of the ZF 5HP19 transmission) I need to know if it possible to reprogram the Tiptronic control module on a MY97 Boxster with a PST2 or PIWIS or if the transmission will reprogram by itself after some time? My Porsche mechanics told me that he could not reprogram it with the PC base PST2, and told me that it could be a bad solenoid problem. The fact is that I recently replace ATF oil (VW Audi oil for the ZF 5HP19 tranny) & filter, but after reconnecting the batery the car didn't shift as well between 4 & 5th gear under normal driving condition (2000 to 4000 rpm) , but when I push it over the 4000rpm, it's shifting perfectly... Kind of weird... I've done all the ZF procedure with the maintenance manual for the fluid replacement with the validation of the fluid level, and everything is perfect... Loren, I need your advice on this situation. :renntech:
  25. For Canadian like me who owns a Boxster with an American MPH cluster, there is a solution... I found that FVD Brombacher is selling metric Gemballa gauge face at clearance price. I've purchase a full metric set in KMH for $120... lot cheaper than a new cluster... And for American they also have MPH gauge face in many color. Here is the link to FVD Brombacher FVD Brombacher Gauge face
