  1. Hi folks,

    A question and and update...

Question: I'm looking at the Porsche workshop manual for the Boxster, it it seems to indicate that the AOS (actually two of them) are under the oil pan. However everything we've discussed here indicates that it (singular!) is on top of the engine. Can anyone unfog my brain on this?

Update: Dealership still has my car, going on two weeks. They've promised a diagnosis by Monday. Aside from missing two weeks of top-down weather, I'm really a little worried... I have to make sure this thing in running and not dripping so I can stick it on a transporter to Seattle in a couple of weeks. The stress is killing me.

I know, I know... If you can't take the heat, buy a Toyota. :-)

    Thanks,

    John

    Hello John.

What your looking at it's the end of the AOS system in the oil pan.

What you want to change is on page 10-22 and 10-23.

Next time, bring me your car... A Porsche should be on the road...

  2. Hello I have a 2002 Boxster and it is making some rather unusual sounds. Sometimes when I turn ther key to start the ignition, I get this awful sound like pulling a record backwards on a record player?!? Any idea what that could be? Also when I change gears sometimes I hear a "clunking" sound like something is moving around in my back passenger side of the trunk, like 2 midgets wrestling in my trunk. There are no sounds when I'm not shifting gears. Any ideas on these 2 annoying sounds would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

    Hello.

The sound you have on startup looks like your Starter bendix need to be replace.

The starter removal is an easy DIY, and you could have it rebuilt.

    Good luck.

  3. Hi Loren.

My Durametric cable gave me this error code on my tiptronic:

    moduleType = MotronicDME78

    9X6 Tiptronic Selected

    About to get fault codes

    moduleType = TiptronicG40

    DTC Count = 1

    Fault Number:70

    Description:P0740

Could you validate that the fault number 70 is related to the torque converter?

    Thanks again

  4. Re-learning can take a couple of days of driving.

PC based PST2 should be able to run Tiptronics tests.

Durametric will only report faults and some actual values.

    Thanks Loren.

I will wait for a week, and if the re-learning process don't solve this issue, I will leave my car to my Porsche mechanics and ask him to run some test with is PST2.

    Thanks again

  5. All they could do is put the original 5 map program back in.

Are you sure it just hasn't gone through the re-learn process?

If your shop has a PST2 they can run a few tests.

    Thanks for your help Loren.

How long the the re-learn process should take?

Do you know if the PC base PST2 can run these test, and what are these test?

Could I do something with my Durametric cable because for now I have no fault?

    Thanks

  6. This question is for Loren. (or someone with knowledge of the ZF 5HP19 transmission)

I need to know if it possible to reprogram the Tiptronic control module on a MY97 Boxster with a PST2 or PIWIS

or if the transmission will reprogram by itself after some time?

My Porsche mechanics told me that he could not reprogram it with the PC base PST2, and told me that it could be a bad solenoid problem.

The fact is that I recently replace ATF oil (VW Audi oil for the ZF 5HP19 tranny) & filter, but after reconnecting the batery the car didn't shift as well between 4 & 5th gear under normal driving condition (2000 to 4000 rpm) , but when I push it over the 4000rpm, it's shifting perfectly... Kind of weird... I've done all the ZF procedure with the maintenance manual for the fluid replacement with the validation of the fluid level, and everything is perfect...

Loren, I need your advice on this situation. :renntech:

  7. Hello.

I've just got a reply from Durametric and they're working on a way to activate the OBC on Boxster and 996

and also on a way to Clear fault codes on alarm system...

But this will not be very soon, they have about 600 hours invested in this, and are still not close to completion...

I think that if they reach this goal, I will be the first to buy there Enthusiast Package...

Keep up the good work.

  8. Hi All,

I just picked up a lovely Cayenne from US and imported into Canada. For some reason Porsche seems to

not follow the standard of providing Speedos with both mph and kph (generally kph in smaller font size).

I will have to have this changed to kph to pass inspections in Canada and wonder if there is a source that

    provides these kph dial faces?

    She's an 04 S and I appreciate any input:)

    Thanks,

    Robert

    Hello Robert.

I've also imported a Porsche Boxster from the US, and I also got a cluster in MPH, but to pass the RIV inspection,

you only need to switch the Digital display from MPH to KMH, It make no difference from them if your analog

display is still show MPH but you need to have the odometer in KMH and the digital speedometer display in KMH.

For the Boxster we switch from MPH to KMH by turning and holding the clock knob, I don't know about the Cayenne

but it should be similar. Look in your Porsche manuals.

    Best regards

  9. I saw the 5W50 in Walmart today during my business trip to Toronto. It was on sale for $33 for a 5 litres jug.

    Hello White987.

The main reason that I use 5W50, it's because I need to control oil consumption during summer driving.

My car has almost 125 000km, and it needs good lubrication and wear protection like the 5W50 provide.

Fact are that 5W50 is heavier in viscosity at room temp and under running condition.

0W40 remain liquid until -54 ºC with a viscosity of 105 at 40 ºC

5W50 remain liquid until -51 ºC with a viscosity of 80 at 40 ºC

What I've notice is that the oil consumption is gone...

    Best regards.

  10. There is a very good article in the January 2008 Panorama, page 79 about motor oils. In there Allan Caldwell talks about a Mobil 1 5W50 that is the only 5W50 Porsche "approved/listed". Does anyone here use this oil? Can it be purchased in the USA?

    Hello.

I'm using it on a '97 Boxster without any problem.

This oil can resist to higher temp than the 0W40.

It's available at Wal-Mart in 5 litres and 1 litre.

    Best regards.

El Acura, are you sure? Wal*Mart? I asked about 5W50 not 15W50. I don't even see it listed on Mobil's USA web-site. Thanks!

    Hello.

I got Mobil 1 5W50 at Wal-Mart for $36 in 5 litres here in Canada.

I was expecting them to have the same stock in US...

    Best regards.

  12. I'm interested to see what you find out. I have a similar problem in my 2000 C2 tip. When running in 5th on usually smooth surface I detect the engine RPM move up about 300 - 500 or so. Not quite a full downshift. The shift indicator has not changed. I have 86 k miles on this car and it is my daily driver. I had Autobahn Porsche in Fort Worth replace the fluid at ~ 80k. They said they scanned the car and no problem noticed (if they actually did it). I purchased a Durametric scanner and no codes come up for the Tiptronic. El Acura, did you get any codes to tell you it was the solenoid? I do not have a CEL light.

    Hello GranburyChuck.

I didn't have any cel light, and no particular code for the solenoid problem.

The solenoid was working, but was working very very slowly = poor shifting...

The low tranny fluid cause high engine rev and miss shift between 4th and 5th gear

due to the high volume of transmission fluid needed at high speed.

    Good luck

  13. Hello.

For those of you in process of using flexane, read this.

My engine mount was completely destroyed, and off position. :cursing:

After reading previous post on the hardness of Flexane 80 and Flexane 94, I've done some

research on this product and found that they've created a flexible product that reduces hardness.

So, I've rebuild the original engine mount with flexane 80 but I've added Flexadd to the mix

to reduce the hardness to 70 (more similar to the original rubber)

This mix was great, I don’t have any vibration from the engine and flexane is holding great.

The Flexane 80 and Flexadd were bought from Markingpendepot.com

    Good luck
