  1. Hello.

    This one is for Loren....

I endup with an Airbag warning light with a fault code 801b. By doing some research, I found a TSB that lead to the potential cause of this fault code. ( Corrosion due to moisture in the door connection point.)

Here is my question, on the TSB 6953 there are no clear figure explaining where or how to connect the 2 upgrade wire harness, they are also refering to a workshop manual 2706in for connection of the airbag unit, and for control unit. Where can I find detailed informations for this TSB or about the WS 2706in ???

    Thanks

    Fred

  2. Anybody? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on this trans but would hate to have it not work for some reason. So, to sum up: an A86.20 Tipper with matching TCU in to a car originally equipped with an A86.00. Thanks!

    Hello

    I've swap a ZF A86.00 with an 2001 ZF A86.05 In my old 1997 Boxster 986,

I also had the matching 2001 transmission TCU, but endup using the old one.

My Motronic was not able to see the newer TCU because of the MOST interface.

But dont worry, the tranny should work well with the old Control anyway.

You can see my topic about this here..

    Good luck

  3. Hey guys, bad news for me, I think my transmission just went out. 1997 Boxster 2.5 Trip. Gears were slipping, turned around and went home (4-6mins), got there just in time to get no traction in gear, and dump a load of oil. Pic attched is of the belly, and the pink 'think' that was in the oil. Does anyone recognise this part, I haven't called the garage yet, but I am guessing this is a total transmissioon failure. Anyone have any advice?

    Hello

To dump oil like this in the front of the tranny, the only possible cause might be the torque converter seal....

ZF 5hp19 Tiptronic transmission need 9 litres of oil to run. dump half of it, and you have a dead tranny.

Please provide more informations, like your mileage, or if the transmission was maintained recently ( fluid & filter change )

or if the dumped oil got a particular strong burn smell.

    Good luck

  4. Hello

It doesn't take special abilities to replace a solenoid... on a scale of 1 to 10 ( 1 being the easy job ) I will rate this as a 2..

just because you have to dismantle the under body to acces the pan.

Be really carefull with the connector on the solenoid, they get brittle over time...

and you don't want to change the harness in the tranny...

BTW don't forget to purchase a new filter and a new gasket for the pan....

  5. Update

2001 transmission work flawlessly with the old 1997 control module.

but the tranmission ratio seams a bit different then the old one... I've hit the 30 miles per galon with it...

Total cost $3000 with tranny, IMS, RMS, and Air injection valve... not too bad...

Special thanks to Loren and RFM

    post-1-031332800 1277243622_thumb.png

Loren... Is this spur gear located between the transmission and the final drive????

If the ratio is different, that's probably why I have almost 6 KMH difference at 3000 RPM...

    Thanks for the Help

  6. Update

My IMS bearing was as new... but transmission not in yet... should be tomorrow...

not the same luck with the 1999 boxster S that was on the lift next to my car

The car was in for an oil leak... and end up with a LN Engenering bearing upgrade...

BTW my tech told me that it was pretty easy to remove the double row bearing with the puller fron LN...

  7. I know the 986.300.011.02 required a newer control module so I expect you need the newer control module for 02 and newer versions.

    Perhaps RFM knows for sure?

    Thanks Loren...

Do you mean 986.300.011.20, because I know that this one required a specific control for Boxster S.

But now, I think that I have no choice... Today, After a Big Clunk... the Tip turned into safety mode....

So I will put the used A86-05 986.300.011.05 and see if it's compatible.

Wish me good luck... and hope to be back on the road without any issues in 2 weeks...

  8. Hi

This question is for Lauren.... or somebody that face the same situation....

The transmission in my Boxster 2.5 1997 reach the end of it's life a 160 000km.... start slipping and jumping between gears... So probably clutches and torque converter problem.

The transmission was check for oil condition and level, and it's was perfect... the oil was changed twice in the last 5000 km ....

So my Porsche technician propose to swap instead of rebuilding with an almost new transmission from a 2001 2.7 boxster, but I'm not sure if it's compatible with my control unit...

    I got a ZF 5hp19 model A86-00 ( porsche 986 300 911 01 ) with control unit 986 618 225 00

    and the part proposed by my Technician is a 5hp19 model A86-05 ( porsche 986 300 011 05 ) , and I think that it need a control unit 986 618 240 00

My question is: Will this transmission work with my control unit, or could it be reprogram for the new tranny ????

    Thanks in advance

  9. Update : Scan with a PST2 shows. DME CODES P1130,P1128,P0410,P1411,P1576

    TRANSMISSON CODES 36 AND 91

my mechanic told me that he believes its a bad torque converter as well , he had told me that the computer recongnizes the RPMs yet nothing happens.

He advised on replacing the transmission, which is not going to be cheap , do you guys have any ideas for a cheaper way to take care of this?

    Hi

Like I said, If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt for under $1000 be any good transmission specialist.

The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in VW Passat and AUDI A4.

In this link tou will find all the informations about ZF 5hp19

    ZF 5HP19 parts

    Good luck

  10. Hello.

Maybe only a clog line in the valve body.

Did you tried to raise the ATF oil pressure by selecting drive

and applying full brake and rev the engine.

You will really feel it if the transmission is slipping or not.

BTW Don't push the engine over 3500 rpm because it can damage the torque converter.

    Good luck

  11. Hi.

Looks like a dead torque converter to me... but you should have a P0740 fault code...

If it's a torque converter problem, it can be rebuilt be any good transmission mechanic.

The tiptronic is a conventional ZF transmission 5hp19 model that was installed in Passat and audi A4.

    Good luck

  12. Hello folks,

My 99 996 is close to 80,000 miles... and 3k in the extended warranty left. When I reduce manually from 5th to 4th, I have let go of the accelerator a bit or the gear shift would be abrupt, not smooth. I "know" transmission issues are covered under the warranty... should I take it in or it might open a can of worms in a otherwise fine transmission? Maybe is normal in older cars and something not worth looking into?

    Hello.

Looking like you have a low ATF fluid, and if you didn't already had a Tiptronic maintenance,

I would suggest replacing ATF and filter.

    Good luck

  13. Or... you could have just used the "Glossary of Technical Terms" on the Quick Menu ;)

    Hello Loren,

Sorry to bring back this old post, but I have a P0430 error code, and following your instructions in

this post, I got this reading from my durametric cable.

Please take a look a it, and tell me if it's the cats or the lambda probe.

    Thanks.

  14. Hello Folks.....,

I was wondering if changing the tranny oil in a automatic 1999 Boxster was a DIY?

I went today to the dealer and i asked how much for a tranny oil changed.....answer around $250.00

I also asked for the price of a liter of tranny oil.... $ 41.00

How much oil i will need for the tranny oil changed?

    Thanks

    Robert

    Hello.

It's an easy DIY, and I also suggest that you change the filter ($29) at the same time.

For the oil, you can purchase the VW Audi oil G052162A2 ($15) or the Pentosin ATF ($12).

The ZF 5HP19 was also used in VW passat Audi A4 and some BMW, here is a link for a DIY ATF change.

    ZF transmission oil change

    Information on the ZF 5hp19

On my car I have flushed the system to put AMSOIL full synthetic, it's similar to Esso LT 71141 .

    Good luck
