  1. Belts slipped?????? I don't see how can a belt of steel in a vulcanized tire slip. That sounds like some tire store BS to me. If a belt was slipping that would mean the tire belts were seperating from the rubber and would be sticking out somewhere shreeding the tire. Yes there is a point when a tire can be properly balanced and tires can be shot. I never had problems with the V12 tires and I used them on DE and auto X. Are they the best? No but for the price what can you expect. Any way I got 12K out of them which is the same amount I got from Continentals or the OE Dunlops. As far as noise they were about the same IMO. I'm doing more track stuff so I changed to the Nitto NT05 which would be more noisy.

You are right belts do not "slip" but tire belts can seperate from road hazards: punctures, impact breaks, cuts, improper alignment, overheating etc.

  2. Thanks Guys, Really appreciate your thoughts and feedback. So I confirmed I was running 30psi in the front and 33psi in the back, so I think that was in the realm. As for options, it does show 030, so thank you for letting me confirm that. So if I am to go back to stock suspension (should I presume that is the US standard option?) I'm just not sure how its termed over here in Australia. Alternatively, could "stock" be equated to the Bilstein HD's? I'm ok with that, but just wanted to confirm as I read somewhere here, that stock and Bilstein HD's were an interchangeable term. Finally, I'm hearing that shocks is all I need, and there is no need for a new control arm, sway bars, springs or bushes etc...... Is that a safe assumption? Thanks guys Really appreciate it.....

I believe the 030 springs is the main factor to your rough ride so you shoudn't have any problem finding someone that wants to swap with you. If anything else is excessively worn in the suspension you should replace it with oem quality new parts to fix the "loose" feel. Assuming your shocks are worn you will probably want to replace those at the same time as the springs & hopefully the shocks are the only cause for the "loose" feel. Setting front psi at 27psi will make a big improvement now.

  3. Tiptronic axle drive flange removal

I have a slight gear lube leak coming from the axle drive flange on my Tiptronic (2001 Boxster S). Need technical advice on axle drive flange removal so I can replace the seal. It appears from the differential diagram that the splined axle drive flange is held in by a small wire ‘C-ring’. Question: does the axle flange just pop out when evenly pried out from the case, or is there a special removal process? Also, should the C-ring be replaced? Thanks for the assistance.

Never done this on a Tip but I would be surprised if it was different from the 6-speed. For a 6-speed thread a bolt into the flange until it contacts the case & starts to pull the flange out thread a 2nd bolt on the opposite side of the flange to press out more evenly. C-ring should be replaced. If Tip & 6-speed part # is the same for clip & flange then R&R procedure is probably the same.

  4. Tranny problems

So I decided to replace my rear wheel bearing myself and save the 1000.00 the not so local guy wanted. Found out I could pull the carrier and take it to a shop and for 50.00 have my old bearing pressed out and the new one in. Well that’s true except…when I pulled the carrier off, the axle, together with the CV joint and I believe the joint flange pulled out of the tranny. The car was tipped so I lost some fluid, but the problem is now I cannot get the joint flange which is still attached to the axle to go back into the tranny. It goes in to within about 1/2 “ of pressing into the seal. It goes in far enough to insert into the spline, because I can turn the opposite wheel with the car in gear and the axle I’m working on turns. Any ideas out there of why that CV joint and assembly will not seat all the way to the seal in the tranny. Hope this makes sense to someone who has worked with this before. My email is rwyma@att.net if anyone can shed some light on this. I can’t even get it to the point of taking it somewhere, and if I do, my wife hinted I could live in the car too! She’s not happy,$$$. FYI, I have been working on Porsches since 1977 and many other types as well, so I am not a novice. Use to be changing a wheel bearing was a ½ hour job, if you took a 15 minute break…no more. Any help might just save my marriage!

UPDATE: I removed the circlip at the end of the shaft and the spline slid right in up to the seal. Its seems that clip was holding it out. But if thats the case, why did it come out of the tranny to begin with. It is there I assume to hold it in the tranny. Any ideas how to get it in the clip on the shaft?

    Thanks for any help.

Have not done this myself, but if you go to Pelicanparts.com they have good pictures that should help in their tech section
