  1. Might be a long shot but check inside the "dish" that in halfway up the strut. It's where the spring sits. It can collect road debris and stones. I work at a Volvo dealership and it's actually a common complaint on the Volvo XC90. These stones under the spring are exactly what cause similar noises and clunks on the Volvo.

  2. I've got an 04' Boxster S with adjustable intermittent wipers. The "intermittent" part doesn't seem to work. from what I've read I need to replace the #16 relay. Can someone please confirm that ie following is the correct part# for the boxster? ...

  3. Yup. I did. Still not matching up. The numbers I am trying to decipher are 986 559 98301 / 986 559 98401

    I searched and several different part numbers for side skirts. Pretty sure there were only two styles of them for the 986 but I found more than two part numbers... and I'm not talking left and right. I want the "newer style" Aero Kit II side skirts f0r a 2004 Boxster. What are the part numbers for these?

  4. Been looking for this piece for a while. I'm 99% sure it's the exact same part as the 911 GT3 Mk1 front bumper cover. I've found the part at a reasonable price. When I asked for the part# here's what I got...

    996 505 980 02 G2X

    My research says the Boxster part# is...

    996 505 983 01

    G2X just means primed. Any input from board members? Before I pull the trigger on this rather expensive piece ($2,800 from the stealer) am I talking about the same part and will it fit my 04' Boxster S? Thanks!

  5. Who's the dealership you use? My dealer still has no clue. I confirmed the service department does have that kit but the answer I got from the technician was that he's "never had to use it before". I think they're pretty sick of dealing with me.

For those MY01 – MY04 DIY’ers who have broken the lock on one or more of the instrument cluster plugs or who are afraid they might, here’s the part number you need : PNA 721.04.300.202. This part number gets you a package with the three colored (blue, green, gray) covers/locks and all three black plugs. They only come as a set of three and cost $27.00 (dealer). The blue, white and black covers/locks and plugs are available for MY97 – MY00 Boxsters too.

    Have your Porsche technician (not parts guy) check his “Porsche Electrical Connector Repair Kit” for the replacement parts or at least a part number for the three plug package. The entire repair kit is known as CARTOOL – Nr 96 0 000 or PNA 721 043 600. It is full of connectors the parts guy would like to sell you the entire wiring harness for.

  7. Funny. I broke those instrument cluster clips on my last Boxster. I don't think there is enough room or enough length on the cable to allow clear access to the plug with a glue gun.

    Can you do this. Plug in the connector. Move the arm into the locked position and glue the arm in place. I did this on an instrument cluster connector when the little tab that keeps the arm in the locked position broke off. I used a hot melt glue gun.
  8. I've spent the last 24 hours researching this and every lead has run into a dead end. I've reviewed posts on this forum and found close matches to my scenario but again... dead ends. Tool Pants... you seem to know a lot about this area so maybe you can help. Earlier this summer my radio stopped working. 2004 Boxster S with a CDR-23 and Bose Audio. Radio still turned on but no sound. Research told me it was the Amp. Had a friend comfirm that by running some tests for me. Power to my amp but he said "not passing optical". Found a used amp in an 04' Boxster from www.car-parts.com. Did the swap over and everything worked fine. With one exception... Three plugs that go into the amp. I'm a rookie at this stuff so bear with me. One plug/harness is the fiber optics. The second is for speakers. The third I believe is for power. On this third connector I broke off a little swing arm that locks the plug into place on the amp. The swing arm itself didn't break but these two little nubs on either side of the connector that the locking arm hinges on broke off. Attached a few photos to clarify.

    My local dealer can't find the part# to order this connector seperatly. They want to sell me an entire harness?? My last effort will be to call junk yards. In fact the place that sold me the amp will sell me the plug... FOR $125!! That's ridiculous. All I want is a new connector. The part is made by AMP. It actually shows three part numbers. One number for each half of the connector and another part number for the piece that locks them together. The part numbers are...

    1-963 616-1

    1-965 085-1

    929650-2

    I've spoken with AMP, Tyco, Summit Electronics, Newark Electronics, local stereo shops, etc... All dead ends. Most of the smaller "distributors" don't stock the part and will only order it if I order 2000 of them (summit electronics) and the larger guys (Tyco) won't sell to an individual. I work for a Volvo dealership and you can buy each connector down to each wire seperately. Easy as cake. Why is Porsche so difficult? Any help or input will be appreciated. Thanks. -Tom

  9. So I was bored at work and called the 800# for PCNA. Got a really friendly and helpful person on the other end. My first question was a simple one. I wanted to know how many Anniversary Edition Boxsters Porsche shipped to North America. He asked me if I had any other questions so I threw this one out at him just to get an "official" response. I asked if the AE had a different suspension. The guy called back in only a few minutes and could not answer my first question. His answer was that Porsche does not release figures on how many cars were delivered to each market. No big deal. His answer to my second question was that the car has a sport suspension with a 5mm wider track and a 10mm lowered height. Now I know there are no part numbers listed but I've got to believe that if someone from Porsche researches the question and tells me it's 10mm lower than that's a pretty reliable source. Anyone with an 04' S model near or around Portland, Maine so I can park the cars side by side and measure?

Porsche technicians have reduced the 6-speed gearbox's shift travel by 15 percent for a sportier faster shift.

    That statement would lead me to believe it's not the same suspension as the standard Boxster S. I'm looking for something more offical and specific that says what the difference was between the models.

    I myself am in need of an aligment. I have a question that I cannot find an answer for. Loren- thanks for posting the specs on those three different suspensions. I just bought a 2004 Boxster S 550 Spyder Special Edition. Info I can find says it's suspension is 10mm lower than a normal Boxster S. I'm "guessing" that makes it an ROW suspension? Or is it ROW sport? I'm not sure. Can anyone give me some input? Thanks, -Tom

    The MY04 550 Spyder Special Edition did not get any special suspension - so it has the same suspensions the MY04 Boxster S. (The MY04 Order Guides can be downloaded on the Order Guides section).

    If it is lower then it likely had someone change the suspension to the RoW Sport suspension.

    Best way to find out for sure what is on the car is to get the color markings and the front and rear springs.

    Stiffened springs and shocks plus Porsche Stability Management fitted as standard let you stake claim to corners with greater road-holding confidence.

  12. Any before and after photos of how the car sits with the MO30 suspension?

    I just changed to a MO30 ROW Suspension on my 98 base Boxster w/Tip. I noticed that when I took the original springs off there was a dot of green paint at the top of the spring and at the bottom there was a white dot next to a blue dot. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks in advance for your consideration. Ed
  13. Bent wheel is where I would check next.

    Hi All,

    I am getting a vibration in the steering wheel that goes right to left or CW/CCW. It starts off as a kind of a nervous feeling in the wheel at lower speeds <55. As I accelerate it becomes more pronounced and annoying at 65-80. Going around a gentle curve on the highway reduces the vibration.

    I attributed it to my old tires which were Michelin PS/2 and I have since had these replaced and the vibration has been reduced but it is still there.

    The details:

    2002 986s 49,000 miles - stock suspension, stock 17" wheels

    This week I had the following work done at an independent Porsche shop:

    • Replaced all tires with Bridgestone PP Potenza RE050A
    • alignment

    I took the car back to the shop and went on a test drive with the tech. He confirmed the vibration and had the front tires re-balanced. The vibration is still there.

    The shop said that the next steps are to look at other suspension components and I am wondering if this is going to turn into a situation where parts are replaced until it goes away.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  14. Got chrome plated lug nuts from GMP performance and they are exact reproductions of the OEM bolt. A 2 piece bolt that just doesn't corode up like OEM. They are expensive though. I'm happy with them. I just don't think powder coating would hold up to everyday use. I think Porsche might make black plastic bolt caps to hide th eugly lug bolts?

  15. They are BBS. Have them on my 03'. Not sure of the exct weight but they feel sort of heavy. Looking to upgrade to 18" Carrera Lightweights.

    I would hazard to say Porsche uses a number of manufacturers for the OEM wheels, for example the Cayman S 5-spoke are made by Ronal in Germany, the 17" that came on my 2006 were made in Italy by... ? The 18" Boxster S wheels are made in Belgium by... ?

    If you look at the back side of the wheel there may be a manufacturer's name and possibly a country of origin.

    I'm posting this here in the Boxster area to see if anyone has bought these wheels for a Boxster. I know they are 996 narrow body offsets for the rears but that can be fixed with a spacer. Any body bought these wheels?

    More specifically has anyone bought these wheels for a Boxster? Happy and satisfied? The guy told me they are EXACT replicas but they weigh about 2lbs more a piece. That's a real attractive price. Just a little wary of knock offs.
