Isnt 0w40 or 5w40 the factory recommended? Im about to do an oil change myself and was going to order some 0w40 mobil 1 on amazon. I do a lot of short trips so i figured the 0w40 would be a good fit for me.

I don't understand why anyone would worry about an issue like this, if something breaks- fix it. Yes it's very expensive if not caught in time but many other manufacturers have issues that are just as expensive and occur much more often than the IMS brng. If you're going to lose sleep over the issue purchase a warranty.
^ This. Besides, you arent buying a kia. These cars cost more to maintain, it's part of the deal.
Why will the PPI be interesting? Either they find something or they dont.

Magnetic drain plug question, any engine gurus out there?

So i was looking at these dimple magnetic drain plugs since im due for an oil change. Planning on using mobil 1 0w40 as i live in memphis TN, gets fairly hot in the summer but not too cold in the winter (except last winter). I also do a lot of short trips and feel like the 0w40 helps on the start up lubrication.
Anyway, i was thinking about adding a magnetic plug but these engines are mostly aluminum arent they? What engine parts are ferrous and wear? Im wondering if there are even enough ferrous parts in the engine to mess with the magnetic drain plug. It's only $30 so it's not a big deal either way....I know it cant hurt anything.
