  1. Hi, I just got a 2006 Cayenne Turbo that came with the factor hitch, but when I was looking for the wiring for the trailer lights, all I could find was a plate with 4 screws.

    1. Does the wiring come with the hitch receiver as a standard option or is it an add-on I need to get? If it's the latter, is it a porsche-OEM product?
    2. What is the optimal towing setting on the suspension controls?

    Thanks!

You need an adapter plug P/n PNA 955 118 93--this replaces the plate held on by 4 screws--the wiring harness plug should be already behind this plate--just attach to the back of the new adapter plug and you're in business. This adapter plug gives you a standard 7pin rv type receptacle. For a 7way to 4 flat--like most small trailers without brakes you need adapter plug PNA 955 127 08 to convert the unit to a 4pin flat. If your trailer has led lights Uhaul has a "led light trailer module" P/N uhaul39008 to use instead of the Porsche PNA955 127 08.

Can't answer your second ? my Cayenne is an 06S --no air suspension.

  2. I have read on various forums that 04 Cayennes were prone to failure of the center driveshaft bearing. When were these shafts changed and how would I know if I have one of the failure prone shafts. My CS is an 06 model but it was manufactured the first day of 05 so it has at least some 04 parts in it. For instance the ignition coils were -01 units and were just replaced under warranty with -05 units per the TSB (one coil failed TSB said to replace them all).

  3. I picked up a set of 18" Turbo wheels by posting a "wanted to buy--18" Cayenne wheels" on Craigs list. I got a speedy reply with an offer to sell 4 wheels with center caps for $250. I think there are a lot of wheels like this taking up room in garages from people who upgraded to larger diameter wheels. I found that the 18's work perfect with Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow tires. Also the 18" winter tires are considerably cheaper than the bigger sizes.

  4. I have a 2006 S and went with Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow from the Tirerack.com. I picked up a set of 18" Turbo wheels for $250 (lots of these sitting in garages from turbo owners who upgraded to bigger wheels). Be aware that as you go up in size the price goes up Tire RacK: 18" $203, 20" $267, 21" $298 and 22" $344. Prices are each + shipping. Also 21 and 22 Pirelli's are not -NO (Porsche spec) tires. Not sure how critical it is to have Porsche spec winter tires--when I got my 18's last year they were out of -NO tires so I went with Mercedes spec figured if they were good enough for a Benz suv they would probably be ok for a Porsche. Bonus was that the Benz tires have 4/32 more tread depth.

  5. This is probably a stupid question--but if the access screws are 5.5mm hex head screws--what is the T20 torx driver used for?

I found the answer--the T20 is used to remove the access cover that you need to remove in order to gain access to the "access cover" that is held by the 5.5mm screws.

  6. Stolidog:

The TSB is #6690 on page 16 of the TSB list. It does show a picture of the control unit but it also refers to the workshop manual for a better description of the control unit install. I followed the rest of the instructions as far as mounting the hitch and routing the harness. I couldn't figure out the control unit mounting so I left that up to the dealer when I took it in for computer reprogramming. The control unit actually ends up being mounted behind the cd changer. The TSB calls for several fuses to be installed in the right side fuse box--on my 06 the fuses were already installed.

    Charlie
