  1. Hi! Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season. Just to get forum members up to speed, we recently did an installation of an AVIC D3 with caymanclub.net forum member Art07CS (Art) on his 07 Cayman S w/ Bose sound system. It is a kit we've developed for 987 & 997 owners, manufactured here in the U.S.

The image below is Art's vehicle taken shortly after the new head unit went in. We are very grateful and appreciative of Art lending both his car and his Saturday to do the install with us. It was very successful and we were able to document many of the steps in great detail here on the forums for anyone interested in doing the install. You will have to excuse us, the write-up is still in rough form but hopefully will still be useful.

    Cheers,

  2. We do a lot of business with a local Porsche dealership so they were very willing to assist with the OEM amplifier & rear speaker integration. As of yesterday, we've revised the the installation manual to reflect the changes to speed the installation process. Please private message us on Renntech, email or call us should you have any questions or concerns. Many thanks to everyone who have contributed to making this possible!

  3. Has anyone tried installing one of these units? How complicated? Dealer reprogramming required?

Installation take around 2 to 2.5 hours, depending on how mechanically incline you are. The 2nd option is to have a stereo shop install it for you for roughly $70. No dealer reprogramming is required. We've had several people install it already into their 987. It's a great option if you don't want to spend $1500 on a Porsche Bose rear speakers.

    Alex,

The picture you attached on the right hand side (the old radio support bracket), you do not need that piece any longer. Instead, use the new bracket provided in the kit you bought. You may want to take at look at the directions in this thread. PM me or email me at cvt929@yahoo.com

    Hi Softail,

I've seen your name plastered all over this tread & there may be some good news for you & others trying to do the install. We're developing a harness that we know will work for the 2005-2007 997/987 Boxster and the 2006-2007 987 Cayman. We also have which will help aid the installation. I having one of the Renntech member verify the wiring schematics to check compatibility (everything will depend on how the models vary from pre-2005 to current models).

  7. John,

Thank you for purchasing a kit from us! I'll email you the file to upload onto your HU. I will have to agreed with you, it does look awesome with the Porsche crest & logo on the screen. We loaded the crest on ours & used decals for the Porsche scripts, but Marc's combo is way better & cleaner looking.

    Best Wishes,

  8. Hi Daryl,

I talked to him last night, he'll be posting the kits on Friday(9-19-08). He's having some minor issues with one of his supplier, but it's resolved now. I'll past the word onto him for you. Here's his email address if you don't already have it...

    Hi Trieullionaire

Emailed your brother, but hoping if you could find out when he'll release the next set of double din Pioneer AVIC kits for thr 986. My friends and I are keen to buy one, but he hasn't auctioned one for quite some time.

    Thanks!

    Daryl

  9. Porsche emailed me these instructions if anyone wants me to forward it to them. ;) Anyone looking for speaker kits on Ebay will see both, don't you think?

    Trieullionaire

I presume you have permission from Harvey at PNP to scan and post those instructions? He's a nice guy and doubt he would have an issue w/ you doing so, but I think you should at least point people to one of his auctions for rear speaker kits too:

    Harvey's Rear Speaker Kit Auction

Better yet, why not just provide a link to download the instructions in one fell swoop from his sight directly as most people have in the past:

  10. We been getting a lot of emails regarding the level of difficulty installing a Boxster rear speaker kit. We've had the resource available, but been too busy to post it for everyone. So here you have it, hope it will help those who haven't installed one yet...

Here's a link to where you can find a kit as well...

  11. We been working on a double din kit for 2005-2008 Porsche 997 & 987, it's almost complete. We've been on this project now for almost 5 months & completion is within range now. We'll be testing the kit on a 987 Cayman in the weeks to come & will document the entire process for everyone.

  12. Haf,

I'm glad everything worked out for you! Here is a wiring diagram for "Harness B", this will aid you when you're ready to install the Porsche OEM rear speaker kit. We have a detailed 13 pages photo step by step installation instructions that I can post if anyone is interested.

    Thanks Trieullionaire.

Your kit is fantastic! I'm very pleased with the fit and the setter plate made the install a breeze.

As for the sound problem, I think I found out what it is, apparently the door speakers on the Boxster are subwoofers not rear speakers as I had first thought, (the ones on the dash being Front speakers) but somebody might know why the AVIC F900 doesn't sound as good as the Becker Traffic pro using the same factory speakers and amp on the 1999 Boxster.

I don't have the rear speakers behind the seats in the storage compartment. Thinking of getting the kit to improve the sound.

What puzzled me was when I had my old Becker unit in the car. I'm sure the door speakers sounded more than just a woofer!! with more range.

I would be interested to know how you overcame the problems of other Traffic pro owners, just incase it's some thing I can do.

    Cheers

  13. Haf,

First of all, thank you for your purchase! We just returned from a short trip to Orlando so I apologize for the delayed response. We had a few others Porsche owners that have the same setup (Becker Traffic Pro) as yours & had the same issue & we had no trouble getting it resolved. Please private message your phone # & we can help you trouble shoot. In addition, please take some pictures & post them so that we can help others as well.

    I have just installed a F900BT in 1999 Boxster 2.5

However i'm not getting any sound from the door speakers.

I've got the harness and double DIN kit from Euro Motorspeed

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...52BSI%26otn%3D4

and followed the wiring diagrams posted on the Rentech forum

    http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...616&hl=avic

Everything else seams to be working fine. I have tested the speaker with my Becker traffic pro and and the speakers work fine with that.

I tried to swap over the Purple and green RCA cable to the White and grey ones and still no sound. (Harness A)

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Haf

  14. We will be doing a DIY on the rear speaker kit for Porsche Boxster ( 1997-2004) shortly with detailed illustration (even though there's already instruction that comes with the kit). All Renntech members who would like a kit can get it from us for 130.00 free shipping (U.S, Canada & Mexico). All other orders will be charge a flat shipping fee of $15, anywhere in the world. Method of payment via Paypal.

  15. You must have purchased the universal kit from my brother. The price of the universal kit reflects the cost to us vs the Pioneer kit. The universal kit doesn't come with a cage sleeve for a couple of reasons.

    1. Most units of comes with one

    2. We would have to keep on inventory different cage sleeves of many different brands.

The "Setter" trim just slides onto the cage sleeve & fits perfectly onto the Porsche opening, setting the height & (in most cases) the depth of the unit. The "Setter" eliminates the measuring by acting as a "stopper" for the depth of the units. As far as the height, the "Setter" is adjusted to the center of the Porsche opening, taking any guess work out of where the cage sleeve should be positioned.

Go onto Ebay & search for the brand of your HU under "cage sleeve", prices range from $20-40, depending on brand. Hope I was able to help, best wishes.

  16. Hi,

Here is a link thats shows another way to route the antenna, though it has the same location that described above (close to the alarm sensor)

    http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=84794

Here is another option for anyone looking more ways. I put my GPS antenna on the outside of the windshield. And then tucked the wires underneath the rubber seal, tuck it in far enough, the wire should sit in there perfectly and should be unnoticeable.

I have a couple pics here. 1 pic is of where I have it seated and the other pic shows how I routed in the door hinge area.

  17. I will do a DIY on it when I get a chance. I'm up to my neck with mods right now. I installed the camera on the upper part of my license plate. If you pick a camera, be sure its a true wide angle. Don't buy the cheap stuff, you get what you pay for in most cases. I went with the 180 degrees camera. Be careful of some the threads telling you need to drill holes in your Porsche in order to get the wires to the rear. There are existing holes to run wires through, just have to get a little creative on how to get them through.

    Hi,

I bought your AVIC Kit on EBAY. I am about to install it but before I do wouold you mind telling me how you installed the camera on the rear bumper? Where did you find the hole to pass the wire through? How did you get th wire it past the enegine compartment and into the cabin?

    Thanks'

    John

    Hi John,

Thanks for buying the Kit by the way. My brother and I are very appreciative of everyone who has contributed to this thread and folks like yourself who gave us a chance and bought our kits. As for the Camera, sorry for the long delay in getting things organized. With the camera installation, you can actually do it in the order below or in reverse steps and it works fine. Hopefully, it's helpful!

Step "Prestep". Raise your Spoiler, Open the trunk, and Put Your Convertible Top in Service Position

    Step 1. The License Plate

    a. Remove your license plate, should be a hole behind there thats about an inch in diameter or slightly bigger

    b. Take the detachable wires that came with your camera and loop it from the corner of the spoiler down to the hole behind the license plate. I used a clothes hanger and taped the tip of those wires which is the plugin jack and pushed it through until I could see it located at the hole. Then I plugged in the camera.

    Step 2. The Trunk

    a. There is a bolt at the top left corner of the spoiler which I used for the ground wire. Ground it there, 1 less wire you have to route to the front of your car.

    b. Route the remaining wires (should be the video rca cable and the positive wire to power your camera) along the outside of the trunk space. Hide it under the rubber gasket which lines the perimeter of the trunk.

Step 3. The Circular Rubber Gasket

    a. Remove the rubber gasket located at the top left hand corner of your rear trunk hood.

    b. Pierce a hole through it and pull your wires through it.

Step 4. Above the Engine Compartment

    a. Now you should be on the engine compartment side

    b. Route the wires along the side of the engine and avoid routing wires in areas where your wires may get pinched from the moving parts of the convertible top.

    Step 5. The Door Area

    a. Tuck your wires underneath the rubber lining that runs around the area where the door is located

    Step 6.

    a. Bring Video RCA plug to Avic

    b. Plug in Positive wire to an available fuse

    Here it is in pictures:
