  1. Howdy,

Driving on 1-95 southbound in Hollywood, FL yesterday. I was carrying a somewhat short following distance, (here in SOFLA, if you leave anything more than a car length at 85 mph, someone will slide in front of you!). Anyway, Im behind a van and the guy suddenly swerves to the left to avoid hitting two large plastic containers. They measured about 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I hit them. I guess the van guy could see to the front but I couldn't see around the van. The two bins shattered and scored my plastic bra front end. Didn't mess the color up much but definitely dented some of the plastic. Now I have the choice of spending the s to repair the damage, go through the insurance (incl. deductible, free upgrade in premium, etc.) or just ignore it. 2010 997-2. This after getting my driver's door keyed in a restaurant parking lot 2 mo ago. The world is full of assholes.

I'd open up your following distance, and even if someone does slide in front of you, filling the gap, the most you're gonna lose is a microsecond or two when you continue to maintain the proper distance. Considering the consequences otherwise, microseconds are cheap.

  2. The Sport Chrono makes a huge difference on the Carrera S. I had on my 06 and it's like a different car. (I now have it on my Turbo and it really does make it a beast as well. Like the Rock88 says) Even though there is no boost to control on the 997 S Carrera it changes the fuel mapping and makes the throttle response much better and is a lot more fun to drive. And with the PSE it sounds sweet! Get the Sport Chrono and get the PSE. Lots of cars out there with both.

    Good luck!

    I PM'd you on this.

  3. Well....I am no expert but if you have no PDK or Tptronic, shift mapping won't have any affect with a manual, if you get sport chrono plus with the PASM, it drops suspension 10mm and monitors the wheels to ensure contact with the road (very rough ride if not on a track), and probably the only real noticeable difference with your set up would be the throttle response that makes it feel a little quicker. There are a lot of threads on that on 6speedonline.com

Thanks for the link. I'll sign up later today.

  4. No.......It works on Tip and Manual as well. The link gives a good overview, but is on Porsche's site and only covers the latest models, which are PDK or Manual. Other than the PDK

changes & launch control the other enhancements would apply to other cars depending on equipment..

What would it do for a normally aspirated '06-'07 C2S with a manual trans?

  5. Everybody thinks I'm nuts, but if the DMV re-instates my license (I have a hearing coming up next Friday 10 Sept), I wanna get another C2S. The cause of the blackouts was actually a mini-stroke, and if I continue to take the prescribed dosages of Dilantin plus 81mg aspirin daily, I'll be OK. I haven't had another episode since the crash 8 July. My question is: what exactly is the Sports Chrono Package, and is it of any real value? In my search for a suitable '06 replacement, nearly every prospect has the option. My late C2S didn't have it, and frankly, I didn't miss it.

  6. Lovely videos, but I'm poor and simply cannot afford a 997.2! And I loved wringing out my C2S manually and doing a little tap-dance on the pedals as I heel-toe-double-clutched my way thru a road much like that in the video. By the way, I called my car The Little Green Monster for the wonderful noises it made going up thru a canyon. It's gonna be tough finding a replacement.

  7. Just thinking about a turbo myself to replace my poor totaled C2S, but it would have to be an '05 or older to fit my budget. How are they like to drive compared to a normally aspirated C2S? I'd drive one myself, but the DMV won't let me behind the wheel for another 2-3 months.

  8. Still awaiting word from my insurer re payout and settlement. In the meantime, I'm exploring another possibilty suggested by the body shop: installing a "clip" or a complete front end assy from another C2S; providing they can even find a suitable one. Before everyone runs screaming for the exits at the mere mention of the word, does anyone have any real experience with this kind of repair? Thanks.

  9. . . .My question was more on potential future resale value (not my main concern now but in a few years for sure). While some owners have them fully loaded with PSM 3.0, ceramic brakes, front axle lift system, etc etc, some virtually have no options whatsoever apart from the sport chrono package.

While I know I need the front axle lift (due to my slightly inclined driveway), which are the options that you think are a must ? (considering I will only probably track it a few times at best......).

These are TOYS--and brutal ones at that--not investments. Those low mileage ones are likely from owners who realized just HOW brutal! And unless you're gonna use your GT3 for competition events, those pricey yaller PCCB's are overkill. But when you find what you're looking for, I'm gonna be extremely jealous!

  10. Phil, I was just thinking about a turbo myself to eventually replace my poor totaled C2S, but an '05 or a 996TT would be better suited to my budget. From reading numerous posts re IMS ssues, the 3.6 turbos seem to be free of that problem. How pronounced is the 'turbo lag'? And do they make the same wonderful deep-chested noises as the big 3.8? I'd go out and drive one myself, but the DMV won't let me do so for another 3 mos.

  11. Sorry about the car,

From another Porsche driver that is epileptic, my body started to reject/process Dilantin so fast the dose increase was out of control. Talk to your DR. about using Carbatrol since it has a slow release. I've been on it for over 6 years with no issues. This has given me the confidence to really enjoy driving my 05 997 C2. I was paranoid about driving with Dilantin.

    Good Luck

Just now got back from my doc's and a blood test. I'm seeing him again in 3 wks, and I'll ask him then about Carbatol (sounds suspiciously to me like an injector cleaner ;), so it just might work better for car nuts). I've had no problems however with dilantin absorption, but it's nice to know I'm not alone.

  12. I had a guy tell me that when you put the car on a stretch table,

you apply the stretch and release the stretch and the car goes back to

it's un-stretched shape. I think it will be very dificult to stretch the pasenger wheel back into shape.

You might be better to find a car that has been in a fire and put your parts on it.

    Paul

I'm gonna explore all my options re total loss payout vs repair before making my decision. I have one hole card; my insurance co trucked my car off to a salvage yard prematurely and without my permission. I figure they now owe me at least a coupla days to make up my mind.

  13. You will have a salvage title though. Which means the car will be basically worthless. The car will never be right.. You would be better off parting out the car or better yet just getting another one..

    Just my 2 cents...

I fully understand that, but I can't afford another 997C2S. I'm gonna accompany my body shop guy to the yard this PM, and see what he says. We both can be very frank with each other. After I trashed the rt frt wheel/tire and suspension in the AARRGGH incident, I had a 4-wheel alignment done with all angles set to spec, and the car never handled better.

  14. sorry to hear that....

There is a possibility that if my body shop guy says it's repairable, the ins co will let me have the hulk, less the salvage value, and if there's enough $$ left over, I'll have it hauled over to his shop for repair. He said that with some expensive cars, it's quite do-able, and that I might even come out ahead. Watch this space.

  15. Not to be rude, but why are you driving at all if you're prone to such episodes? It seems to me that you're very fortunate that you haven't hurt someone or yourself.

I guess I'm being critical but it doesn't make sense to me.

As long as my dilantin blood levels are within the normal range, I'm OK (they were a bit low at the time and my dosage has since been increased), but I understand your point; the last thing I want is to hurt anybody. That's also the reason why my license was suspended for 3 months and yes, that'll be a tough decision I'll have to make if my driving privileges are restored.
