  1. I've got a bad case of "dandruff" on the front bumper and first 1/3 of my 2000 ocean blue metallic 996. I just put $300 into Griots products including their 6" random orbital. They say that their #3 polish is so lightweight that it is totally safe but Ive heard that you dont want to use an orbital on the edges of your surfaces or on the dramatic curves due to possible burn in.

What is your experience with using good quality tools and polishes on your 996 curves and edges? You know it is hard to find a totally flat surface on our cars. I expect to hand polish the mirror enclosures, rear deck, etc. But is there a problem with clear coat damage using a good quality orbital on the front end, hood, fenders etc? Also, should you avoid the panel edges when polishing with the orbital?

    Thanks!

I am the biggest fan of the Griots products and I have the same set up as you do I'm sure. I have never had an issue dealing with burning and I can tell you first hand and after several uses of the buffer on my 996 that this is totally safe.

If you were using a rotery buffer (1750 rpm) you would in deed cause burning on edges and such. That was my fear too when I was looking for detailing products.

I bought my car used and with Black I had to do a lot of polishing with #3 to get it right. The Best of Show Wax and the Carnuba is just awesome.

I use it on every inch of the car and especially the mirror housing and great relults. I am their BIGGEST fan. I talk to Dave at Griots all the time and have been using just about everything they make for detailing.

This is the best set up for the do it your selfer! I'm sold!

  2. I'd like to replace the rather dull looking tips on my '04 996 C2 with chrome tips, possible the dual pipe type that I see on a turbo, or just single pipe types.

Does anybody have an reconmendations on what I should buy, and also how hard are these to fit? Do I need a ramp?

I've seen some that look good on the performance products site. I've also seen some on ebay, but am wary of buying junk.

    thanks!

I was dealing with the same situation a few months ago. I finally got the DANSK Turbo Quad Tip from Performance Products. The stock are of poor quality and finish and the Turbo Quad Tips are SS and much larger than stock and have the look that belongs on this fine car.

As soon as I get pix is will post.

    Good kuck,

  3. Hello all,

As I am new to Renntech I am not sure if this topic has been an issue for anyone or has been covered already.

Recently I had a problem clearing misted windows on my '98 C2, without having the aircon switched on. I was convinced there was a leak in the heater matrix as the windows would mist-up completely and very quickly without the air on. It didn't even have to be particularly cold outside. After a short conversation with a kind Technician in Edinburgh he suggested that the pollen filter may be old and restricting the air flow. I was a little sceptical but changed it anyway. Surprisingly the problem cleared up (sorry, nice pun ;) ) straight away and now I don't have to have the aircon on permanently. Problem solved and my conscience is very slightly clearer now that I use slightly less fuel than before!!

Hope this is useful info to somebody

    Nic.

Any suggestions on width size? I'm planning on 7mm in the front, and 14mm in the rear. Does it really look bad going larger than that in the rear?

Don't even bother with 7mm -- you won't notice the difference. Go with 15mm front from H&R. I did this on my 17" stock wheels and the difference is noticeable. I left the rear wheels as is.

    Oggie -

Thanks for that information I was wondering just how the 7mm would look fearing that the 14mm would be too wide. However you feel that the 7mm will go un noticed. I am running the P-Zero Turbo Twist wheels and am concerned about wheel rub.

I have the 14mm on the rear and will be mounting the 144mm on the front this weekend for a look.

    Thanks, 99C2
