  1. I'll bring up FRAs and RKAT info and report back!

     

    I may need more info on the 02 adaptation tests!

     

    I'll also bring up cam timing on both banks and data log them from 1200-1700

  2. This one is driving my nuts..

     

    Anyone with good solid suggestions on *why this car is only misfiring on 4-5-6 and only at 1500rpm?

     

    Coil packs replaced, spark plugs replaced, fuel volume good, 02's read consistent side to side, cam variation is only -1.25 and 1.15. Maf number look good compared to other 3.6 cars we've had in here. I have *another 996 on the way with the same problem, and I was called on Monday by another tech down the street from me with the EXACt same issue in yet ANOTHER car..

     

    Nevermind the multiple misfires in a track car we noticed this past weekend at the POC Tribute to Lemans race!!!

     

    What's going on? Is it crappy CA. gas??

  3. All Turbo's since 2010 have the new 9A1 engine. The engine is FAR supperior to anything they have produced outside the 962 based 4cam Metzger engines. Based on what they have done with the AOS (it still has one) I'm doubting we will continue to see coking issues. They smartened up. The breather line from each head? It dumps back into the the oil filler neck... which means the AOS cannot fill up with oil and therefore does not allow oil vapor into the intake system like the M96/M97 engines.

    I'm very impressed, and VERY happy to be dealing with the new engines :)

    when you do decided to change out the fluid, ask your shop to utilize SWEPCO 720 when they go back in. 100's and 100's of shops have utilized this in the tips since the transmission came out in the 993's (same transmission) and we end up with a better shifting car with less hassles.

    Make absolutely sure the shop you take the car too has a PSTII or PIWIS for checking fluid temp. This is the proper way to drain and fill the tranny (it needs to be at a certain temp)

  5. as two different mechanics were negative about spacers and the tire shop won't put them on.

    Show them the part numbers for the spacers and bolts from multiple Porsche's that shipped from the factory with them...

    Picture is a little big, but I wanted you to be able to print it off and SHOW them, the Boxster's actually shipped with an available spacer and longer lug bolts.. You can see there were multiple options. A 17mm spacer and a 5mm spacer.

  6. All Boxsters utilized the same air box and MAF tube from 97-2004 (except the 550 anniversary edition which utilized the 987 air box that hadn't been released yet)

    97 utilized a variation of the last 993 computer, 98-99 utilized the same computer as the 99 3.4. All computers changed when they went to fly-by-wire throttle in 00, then changed again in 02 when they went to variable valve lift.

  7. Little late to the party.. but... here is a 2001 Boxster I installed a 3.4 CaymanS engine into. We tuned it on Friday to 291lb ft of tq and 347hp and did a shake down run at El Toro this past weekend where we eeked out 2nd car overall for TTOD (not bad for a shake down ..LOL) 5 speed 2.7 tranny with NO LSD (yet) and all new JRZ double adjustable remote canister shocks/control arms/blah blah..

    I now know why Todd keeps all the info about these conversions *quiet* It can be VERY time consuming and difficult depending on which chassis and which engine you start with

    My professional suggestion? Start with an 02 and up car. Start with an 00-or 01 car and you will quickly figure out why I suggest the 02 and up chassis' !!! :)

    Oh.. and don't believe 98% of what you read online. Rarely do I run across a conversion car that actually runs correctly and does what it should (and I travel nationwide for pro racing and PCA club racing events)

  8. It could save people money.. but out of the 100's of Boxster I have dealt with to date? I have seen just a couple of bad mounts :)

    Yes. The 996 engine mount will work. Pull the stud out of your mount and remove the stud from the 996 mount and replace with the Boxster stud.

    Or.. send me your address and I'll send you a pair of the 8-10 sets I have sitting here for shipping costs. I use the WEVO tranny mounts in our race cars which yields several sets of used good ones laying around.

    Want to get really fancy? 964Cup engine mounts or 996TT engine mounts.

    He needs to take apart a few of these 5 chain engines.. :lol:

    We spend the money because we "believe" we are getting the best, when in fact, we have been receiving CRAP for awhile! All the while their profits were up. Ever seen Porsche dump an engine design after 10 years? I hadn't seen it until the M96/M97 engines. They realized they made a mistake and set about correcting it with the GenII engine. Totally new design after 10 years? How long did they sell the flat 6 engine based on the original 2.0?

    The accountants took over.. and Porsche changed forever (some changes good.. others BAD)

  10. Yeah!! sounds good!! I pointed out in another thread, this is what Porsche did on the "Technique" sport muffler they sold through the dealers. They just dumbed it down a little with different tips and added an electronic control to it :)

    Very few people innovate, lots of people imitate (not aimed at you) :)

  11. I don't know anything about it, but I would like for everyone to *think* about some of these "cold air" intakes out there :)

    HEAT is the number one HP+TQ KILLER in engines. Lowering the intake temp can be seen on the dyno in some NICE gains!

    Now, think about a cone filter system that hangs in the engine compartment? :( compared to the factory air box that takes air from OUTSIDE the engine compartment :) Which air do you think will be cooler? Confined engine compartment pre-heated air, or the air outside of the confined engine compartment?

    We see a LOT of JUNK sold.. even the EVO system was installed by a magazine and the car LOST power.. LOST POWER! It caused EVO to change their name and advertise as a different company!! But people seem to forget that stuff over time and keep buying the parts :(

    EVO was "ZUC'S" before the article pulled their pants down in public.
